The crust on both was perfectly flaky, buttery, and absolutely delicious. The strawberry rhubarb struck that just right balance of sweetness with a bright citrusy lift, and the apple was the kind of all-American comfort you dream about for a fall wedding. We picked the pies up in person, and Apple Shed was wonderful to work with from start to finish. Planning from Arizona could have been tricky, but they were so accommodating and incredibly helpful, making the whole process seamless from afar. I've passed this place on a rare jaunt out in these parts but always thought it was only a bakery so never stopped (I'm not a sweet baked goods person). But the savory food selection is incredible! Several refrigerator cases full of entrees and sides. Some frozen, some fresh. The place seems very clean. My bean chili and eggplant parm were delicious! However, this review should include a warning. This is not an inexpensive little bakery. It is borderline overpriced. This is a place to pick up ready made meals and pastries. It's been such a reliable resource- they are open through the winter and have great hours. I've enjoyed the freezer meals before but just had their valentines dinner for two that was incredibly well priced for what it was. We loved it and def plan on making it a tradition. Used to go to school at Kent's Hill and this was the place to go. I personally loved their baguettes and pumpkin chocolate chip treats in the fall. Went " toodling"today looking for apples and also good places for food. Had to do a few errands south of Augusta and kept going after reading the reviews of the Apple Shed Bakery. Excellent desserts (ate first on my way home) also bought Shepards Pie, corn chowder and apples for pie. Both the chowder and the Shepards Pie were delicious! Absolutely delicious! We had the cinnamon roll, blueberry turnover, and strawberry rhubarb turnover. All three were amazing! The cinnamon roll was still warm and moist, and the turnovers were delicious and tasty with a slightly sweet and crispy pastry. The cinnamon roll didn't last long enough for a picture, it was that amazing! Lastly, we bought the frozen chicken enchiladas and made them for dinner. AMAZING! Stuffed with chicken and very tasty. Stopped here, looking for some lunch while vacationing in the Belgrade area. I did not realize that they are mostly a prepared food to eat at home kind of place. The woman behind the counter though, was lovely and even offered to warm something up for us right there if needed. Turned out, we found cold chicken salad, a peanut noodle salad and a baguette, which bundled together, made the perfect lunch! What a wonderful little store/bakery/market.. I wanted to find a little place to take the kids for a special treat and this was the perfect place. The place has honey, maple syrup, cheeses, prepared meals, treats.. all at reasonable prices for such wonderful homemade/local products. For this trip, we ended up with the brownies for the kids and boy were they perfect. This came recommended to us by a Fayette local. Admittedly, I was hesitant because the first photo I saw to represent this bakery was of a pink frosting covered pastry topped with sprinkles. Reluctantly, I breezed in for a much-needed coffee. They have simple self-serve coffee pumps, and just what we needed, but this is not the reason to go here. We got our baked-goods/ food to go, but Apple Shed Bakery fed my family for the entire day. First meal breakfast: the gourmet Breakfast Pizza topped with eggs, onions, cheese and roasted red pepper- followed by raspberry turnovers and blueberry lemon crumble cake for our teens. Second meal lunch: freshly-made Curried Chicken Salad. Third meal dinner: frozen Chicken Pot Pie. Every single thing we tried, we relished.
