I spontaneously detoured into Old Town in Bandon after seeing how crowded the beach and waterfront businesses were. No agate beachcombing on this stop (8/28/24). The next door bakery had closed earlier, so I decided to check out this indie bookstore and gallery instead. Ended up finding a lone copy on the shelf, Oregon Coast by Barbara Tricarico. I've been coming to this bookstore for years. I love the ambiance and the selection of books has always been unusual and quite broad even though it's not a huge store. It seems like their selection of gift items has expanded over the years. It also seems very thoughtful, classy and includes many unique and fun things. Puzzles, art supplies, coloring books, journals, t-shirts, and jewelry were on display along with the books. They also carry cool postcards that are a step above the regular ones available everywhere else. I've scored some great deals here as well. They offer remainders and the last two times I've been here I've scored cool history works at great prices. Service is quiet and calm, but warm too. In other words, they let you browse as much as you want, but also seem accessible for help and/or questions. I love coming here when I'm in the area! read more

This is a large spacious store with a range of products. There is a wide variety of books touching on many categories and age groups. There are even chairs for the kids to sit and look through the books. Also to be found are brain teaser puzzles, games, shirts (I picked out three today) and some very nice jewelry. There is also a section for stationary, post cards and old time photographs. There are a lot of gift ideas here with some very original items. This is a well curated book store with a wide variety of books for adults, teens and children. They carry gifts cards, jewelry, accessories, toys, beautiful stickers, items celebrating Oregon and various other finds you didn't know you needed. This store is amazingly well done, finding it it in a small town makes it especially unusual. We visit every time we're in town and never leave empty handed. read more

I haven't had the pleasure of visiting the store in person yet - but I'd like to say a few words about the INCREDIBLE customer service I received for an online order. I'm a collector (meaning I can be a little OCD with the condition of my books) so I left a note with on my order. Veronica emailed back immediately with options on which copies on hand could meet my specifications. After this, she continued to go above and beyond to make sure I'd be perfectly happy, and enthusiastically followed up with me after the order was shipped. The books arrived early in PERFECT condition, with the BEST protective packaging I've ever seen for an online order anywhere (eBay, Amazon, etc.). Nice small bookstore in the town of Bandon. Since I'm about Architecture I bought a book from their construction/architecture section. It's not a big section, but it well worth the visit. Lots of books for kids, young adults, and travel, etc. I was just visiting the town with family enjoyed my stay there and planning on going back. read more

WARNING: this bookstore is a serious time warp. You enter, and seemingly 5 minutes later you have lost 3 hours. I have lost significant amounts of time in this bookstore. Love the books, art and gifts here. Its in the old town part of Bandon, and really worth a visit. Bandon is a lovely town, and a must visit. Bandon beach is remarkable, with huge seastacks (the big rocks) and a beautiful American Indian legend about them. Bandon is known for its cranberry bogs, you can purchase cranberry candy in town. I collect agate at one of the local beaches and love the lighthouse. I love Bandon. read more

Winter River Books is your standard touristy bookstore. They sell new books but a large portion of their stock is remainders. You'll find bestsellers, random cookbooks, children's stuff, etc. as well as some Oregon-themed items. They have a little bit of everything, but the key word there is LITTLE. The center part of the shop is full of greeting card spinner racks and calendars. We left without purchasing anything and hope to have better luck with the used book shops. read more

We passed through Bandon a couple of times during our trip to Oregon & I loved this cute bookstore. Yes, it doesn't have a huge selection like Sarah said, but it had enough for me to find a great book to read during my vacation & lots of books about Oregon. The store is clean & bright, the staff is very friendly & you can bring your dog in! Normally, I'd just give 4 stars, but any business that is dog friendly gets an extra star from me! read more

LOVE this place! I'm not a tourist, but I really love going in here. They have standard tourist items such as: historic pictures, local interest books, cards, and gift-y type things. They have a very nice selection of books in many areas of interest and at a decent price. The staff doesn't get nervous about my kids looking at books. Most importantly to me they don't mind you browsing and don't try to over help you. I could go in there every week - if I could afford to! read more

Winter River Books is an asset to Bandon. Nice selection for a small town, and they can quickly acquire it if they don't have it in stock. There is also a nice jewelry counter, with great prices. There are also other cute things in the store like bags, scarves, greeting cards and chocolate bars. No, it's not a big city bookstore that requires a map to navigate, nor is there a Starbucks. It's a small, truly independent bookstore that is well-organized, with fair prices, and great service.
