MrWinters has been around a long time with a lot of experance . He is a no nonsense guy that does not like glock gang bangers , and i have some glocks and love them. He likes a old m1 3006 or a old sharp rifle works for him. I had a old 22 reblued some time back. when i brought him the gun he said to me this gun is not worth rebluuing . It was a cheep single t single shoot creke. I told him my son learned how to shoot with this rifle sometime back and I wanted to repair the gun for my grand kids. Now he under stood my passion. MrWinters is alittle eccentric and old school. He likes to get straight to the point. When i receved the rifle it was like new. Absolutely poor customer service from the time the phone was answered to the short, one worded "no" to a question. Whomever answered the call hung up on me without ad so much as asking if I had any other questions or issues, indicating they are not eager to earn any new business. On suggestion from an attorney I will be taking my business to another business and I would highly discourage anyone from attempting to use them for services. read more

I called Winter's inquiring about a repair to an old revolver. He asked where I got the gun and I said a gun show. He said he would be open so I drove down to his store. When I walked in, I told him I was the guy who called a few minutes earlier. Without even looking at the gun, his first words to me were "do you know where you can get rid of a piece of junk quickly?" Not quite sure what he was getting at I responded "a gun show?" He nodded his head. Surprised at the dig from a guy I just met I responded "I thought I was going to get a gun repaired and not be insulted." He then told me he had some good customers and I was not going to be one of them. He told me to leave. Mr Winters may or may not be a good gunsmith. I guess I will never know. But this I do know, he was incredibly rude to a new customer and has no concept of customer service. read more

The most basic function that any shooter expects a firearm to do is to fire when the trigger is pulled. When my venerable Marlin .22 autoloader started misfiring, sometimes 5 shots out of a box of 50 cartridges, I took it to Winters Gun Specialties in Berlin because the last time I had problems 40 years ago, Mr. Winters took care of them in a through and efficient manner. I had diagnosed the problem as being caused by the firing pin occasionally not hitting the rim of the cartridge hard enough to ignite the powder. When I arrived at the shop I found a new Mr.Winters was running it, the son of the original Mr. Winters, who had served myself and my father so well in the past. I took with me six cartridges that had misfired where the firing pin had barely made a mark on the cartridges. The new Mr. Winters immediately diagnosed the problem as a weak hammer spring, which sounded reasonable and I left the rifle with him to be repaired. Mr. Winters called and told me the gun was finished. I picked it up, paid him the $80.00 he charged, brought it home and started sighting in my scope. The rifle misfired three times in the first 25 shots. I called Mr. Winters, told him the gun was still misfiring and he told me to bring it back with ammunition. I showed him the three misfired cartridges, which, like the 6 before showed barely a mark where the firing pin hit the cartridge. He took the gun but would not use my ammunition, but put ten of his own cartridges in the gun and fired all ten without a miss. He then said. It's your ammunition! I showed him the barely marked cartridges but he told me he had done all he could and insisted it was my ammunition. You can see for yourself in the photo provided. The top three fired cartridges show clear indentations from a proper firing pin and the bottom three are from my Marlin AFTER it was "repaired "by Mr. Winters. It was clear to me that Mr. Winters either didn't want to do the extra work of diagnosing and correcting my problem or did not have the skills to do so. Perhaps John R., Joe P., Dave E. and Kristine P. gave him jobs that only employed cleaning, simple wood finishing or part replacements. I called this man because he has a reputation for being one of the best gunsmiths in southern New Jersey. What I got was a rude, condescending attitude from him. Just like some others have stated in their own reviews of this man, I felt as though I was bothering him, like my repair request didn't matter to him in the least. I don't care how wonderful his abilities are, when he chooses to treat a potential customer like trash, he won't be doing any work for me! I talked to this clown on the phone two different times and both times he was a little short and a little rude. After telling him my problem with my rifle he said I can't see your rifle and tell you what's the problem if I don't see it in my shop. First I never asked him what was wrong with the gun l already knew that. That's why I was calling him lol.so I asked his hours and decided to go there myself with the rifle.after I told him I lived about 45 minutes away. He said bring it in and I'll look at it now remember I told him what was wrong on the phone two times. When I got there I bought in the gun all boxed up and ready to show him. He comes to me and asks very shortly what I was I there for so I told him we talked on the phone about the gun. He remembered me then I proceeded to tell him one more time 'number three now'' the issue and very rudely he told me that he doesn't do that kind of work I said what take a rifle apart and put it back together? Your a friggen gunsmith that's what I thought they did plus everything else they do to repair or accentuate you firearm like so many of us do.he then says very short rude comment well I don't do that type of work. What put a gun back to get together or tell me what is wrong with it. So then he turns his back and walks into his back room or should I say cave no lights on back there and he was like a hermit and vanished back there . So I grab my gun and leave. He never even took the gun out of the box or never said sorry I can't help you after the 45 up and the 45 back. WHAT A DOUCH BAG !!!!! That guy need a psycho evaluation. I was excited to find out if my dads old Perazzi could be worked on to get in shape to sell. When I called there was an immediate attitude from the person that answered the phone, like I was bothering him, or "what is it that you want" kind of thing. I asked the gentleman if he received the email I sent three days ago because I didn't get a response. His exact words were, "Oh, I don't answer email." So I asked, if you don't answer email, why do you have the link on your site that says, "Let's Talk! Thanks for stopping by! We're here to help, please don't hesitate to reach out." The answer was, That's why I have my phone number that says contact us by phone. The entire short conversation was painful and rude. Why do vendors do that? It is so much easier for a customer to find a new vendor, than for a vendor to find a new customer. The guy I spoke with when I visited to get an appraisal of a rifle I owned, knows his business and has quite a few nice, although pricy collectable civil war & 19th century era guns & other types of weaponry but his attitude toward me could've been a bit nicer. I felt as if I was bothering him & he was very quick to point out all the" negative" aspects of my rifle (newer scope added on, color faded & hasn't been taken very good care of...) like he wanted to talk it down so he could lower the price if I asked if he wanted to buy it. Even after I made it clear I wasn't selling but looking for a value for insurance purposes, he was still "cranky" when talking to me and seemed to hurry me along since all I wanted was information. It may just be the man's nature, I don't know him so i can't say but any other place I've been to for "insurance values" likes to talk antiques & is happy to help. This man(again I don't know who he was, could've been an employee not the owner) just seemed to want me gone if I wasn't going to make him money. This is MY opinion, but I left there unhappy and feeling bad because I bothered him. read more
