    Kawa Farms K9 Training

We do NOT recommend Kawa Farms for Board and Train. ($2,250!!) When we began our search for a…read moretrainer we asked around and received mixed reviews about Kawa Farms. However, after speaking with Jen we felt confident that Kawa Farms was the right choice. Unfortunately, we are disappointed in the end result. Overall, we feel like we lost 6 weeks with our puppy for minimal training. We were very clear with Jen about our expectations on multiple occasions. We asked that our 11 week old puppy not jump, learn general commands such as sit, stay, down and walking with a lead. We also asked that she be potty trained. We were told by Jen that this wouldn't be a problem. She informed us that our puppy would be living in the house with her due to her young age. We later learned that she only lived in the house for a short period of time and was then moved to the boarding kennels. We quickly realized that training was not going as planned. After 2 weeks at Kawa Farms our puppy had not learned one command. We were told by Jen that it was our puppy's fault and that she must have experienced some sort of trauma which is not the case. She offered to keep her for 2 additional weeks at no charge. We trusted in her process and agreed to the extended training. When our puppy completed the 6 weeks of training she could sit and come on command (only for a treat and using a clicker) and would sometimes lay down on a soft surface only. This is obviously not what we expected for the time and money spent. We feel like the failed attempts to train our puppy were always blamed on the puppy. Now that we have her at home we disagree with that assessment. She is very trainable and we have been able to teach her a lot. Jen informed us that she would follow up with us in 2 weeks at our home. We never heard from her. We sent her an email regarding our disappointment and received no response. Overall, we feel our puppy would have learned more in a general puppy class.

The sad thing is that we love Dr. Stan. He's kind and takes a great deal of time to answer all of…read moreyour questions... He's great! The issue is that the office staff are very rude and condescending. A perfect example is that we unexpectedly were very close to running out of one of our dog's seizure medicine. I contacted the office and tons them that we needed to pick it up, that he'd be out this weekend and they said that they'd have to talk to the vet because our dog's immunizations were due. I failed to see what one had to do with the other. I have a serious health issue of my own and called back the next day to say that I was too ill to bring the dogs in until the following Monday, but my husband could stop by to pick up our dog's seizure medicine. It was Friday morning and he'd be out of his meds on Sunday. They started that they'd have to check with the vet AGAIN because they couldn't give him the meds without getting his shots done. What did the two have to do with each other? He just had several hundred dollars worth of blood work and tests done a few months back and wasn't due again for several months. They were essentially holding his seizure medicine hostage until we came in and spent several more hundred dollars in exams, shots, and meds! I called again and explained that I wasn't feeling well and didn't want him to get his shots on the weekend because he has seizures everytime he gets his immunizations and I didn't want it to happen while the hospital was closed. AGAIN they said they had to ask the vet for permission to release the meds until BOTH dogs had their shots. We felt like we had no other choice, so although I had concerns and didn't feel well, I conceded and went in because our beloved little dog would have seizures and serious side effects without the meds. Since both dogs are on expensive daily medication, in the past our vet has agreed to match the price of online and other area pharmacies that were significantly less expensive. Except the last two times we've went to pick up our dog's seizure medicine, they've wanted to double, even triple the price... saying that it's gone up for everyone. Funny, but when I called other pharmacies, they said the med was "cheap" and had been around for years and not difficult to get at all. So when I went to pay my bill and get our dog's medicine after the visit last night they said that the medicine would be over $180.00 for two months worth. And he's on the smallest dose (15 mg). That's for 80 tablets. I priced it online and it was $27.00 for 180 tablets! Since I'm a disabled Veteran and live on a tight budget, I started that I couldn't possibly pay that and would they match the online pricing. They said they couldn't, once again they would have to talk to the vet. Since our little dog couldn't go without over the weekend, I asked if I could just buy enough pills to get through the weekend until they "talked to the vet". They wanted $27.00 for 3 days worth of meds and wanted to charge me $7.00 just for the "preparation" fee of the meds. I asked if I could just get a prescription and take it somewhere else... Now they wanted $15.00 ON TOP of that, too write prescription. This is after just spending over $250.00 to have their annual shots done and a heartworm test, and in fact the dog with seizures only needed part of them done because he just had them done a few months back at the tune of several hundred dollars. So I called a local pharmacy and they said no problem to getting the meds at a reasonable price and it can all be handled over the phone. I fully expect to get a significant bill for that "phone call". This is just one example... it's sad that they would put money before the health of their patients. Holding his meds hostage so that they could make more money... it's a sad reflection on their clinic.
