There are many different kinds of art here, like paintings, photographs, sculptures. It's very different and informative with information about the artists. What I enjoyed was a room decorated from the 1970s. A living room with the old fashioned couch, television, radio, record player. They had artwork from Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso, Mark Bradford, to name a few. There was so much artwork to see, focusing on American art,from the 1960s to 1970s. So much to see it can be overwhelming. I will have to go back. It's good that it is handicapped accessible with ramps and elevators. There are clean bathrooms. Highly recommend.

Kingston Gallery (run and staffed entirely by its member artists) consistently exhibits excellent…read morework in Boston's SoWa art district. We've been there over a hundred times throughout the years, and are always interested in, and challenged by, the art they show. It's a great place to meet the artists, too, on First Fridays (when shows typically open, and galleries stay open until 8 or 9PM). Bonus: If you find a piece you love but can't pay for it all at once, they'll work with you to come up with a payment plan.

I had some art to sell. These weren't exactly Picassos, Pollocks, or Van Goghs, and never having…read moresold artwork before, I thought that contacting as many local galleries as possible would be a good way to find a place that would be interested, or at least help point me in the right direction. Most galleries I contacted were friendly and helpful. Some were interested in seeing the works. When I contacted the Kingston Gallery, a nameless representative tersely wrote back, "We are not that kind of gallery." I wrote back, "Thank you for letting me know!" The nameless responder then had the audacity to write back, "Best always to do some research first." Of course, me writing into the gallery in the first place WAS research. I wrote back, "Best also to not send snide responses!" While the responder was bold enough to be scornful, I noticed that he/she wasn't brave enough to even sign his/her messages. Regardless, knowing that such a nasty piece of work is employed at this place has inspired me to caution others against it. Artists seeking to exhibit their work would do well to find a friendlier place!

This is a free NPS site, and the fact the Longfellow family preserved the house before making it…read morepublic makes all the furnishings inside authentic, which isn't common. The tour was pretty good, but it was surprisingly light on both Longfellow and Washington. There was more emphasis on his descendants and their lives and the people who lived in the house first and their slaves, and that's fine and all, but that's really not what we came for. IF I didn't know anything about Longfellow, I wouldn't have learned more than the bare minimum that he was a poet. We came for the famous Longfellow's story. He wrote a famous poem on Paul Revere, making him an American legend. You know where they mention that? Paul Revere's house? You know where it didn't come up at all? Longfellow's house. The grounds are nice to stroll through. There's a temporary gallery from Longfellow's son and the many Asian art items he collected, so that was cool to look for. The gift shop was nonexistant. In its attempt to be more inclusive, it had almost nothing on Longfellow. You know where they have nice collections of Longfellow's house and souvenirs? Paul Revere's house. So the gift items exist, but not even at his house. It was so weird. Maybe NPS got bored staying on topic, but I've never been before, so it felt like I was missing out on the story I came for.

Moreover, it's not just a testament to the forethought of archiving & record keeping, it is a current and thought provoking social and political analysis & commentary from our modern perspective that allows the viewer to gain insight without being bludgeoned over the head with moralistic critique. Worth your careful attention. Also, the bathrooms are in the basement and although a gender free option was not immediately obvious, the attention to details in the woman's room is also an excellent commentary on science and the passage of generations.

Tucked in the corner of the Harvard Science Center, on the first floor just past the Oxford Street…read moreentrance, you'll find this gem of a museum. If you're interested in history, in old clocks, in scientific innovation, in telescopes, in early computers, or even just the lesser known Harvard histories, this is the place for you. It is free to enter, and the staff inside are always really friendly. If you call in advance, they'll even arrange a free guided tour with one of the curators. My favourite items are the old grandfather clocks, who sit ominously along one wall of the gallery, stoically tick-tocking in time with each other, and accompanied by a fantastic story about how time was originally kept before the advent of telephones and immediate forms of communication (e.g. "What time is it over there?" "Oh, I'll have to sail my ship across the ocean with a miniature clock and see what they say.") I also love the fact that most of these objects are never seen aside from in old history books, but that the CHSI has them out and proud, without glass around some of them, for you to see. SUCH a great opportunity to get kids excited about science AND history! Beware the old computer set-up at the back of the gallery -- it has a VERY sensitive alarm, which goes off (to the amusement of the gallery staff, I think) every time some over-excited visitor leans over the keyboard. They really don't want you to start typing and touching it! One star removed, on account of how cold it is inside (bring a sweater... brrr!) and their limited opening hours. Aside from these things, it's an EXCELLENT museum.
