Last night 2 friends and I went to see Emmett Cohen, a favorite jazz pianist. The show was…read morefantastic; Emmett, his bass player and percussionist are top-notch jazz performers and anyone who likes jazz should rush to see them whenever they are in town. No photos since they announced "no photography" at the beginning of the show. I only saw one server working the lower level, and we had been seated for about 10 minutes before we even saw her, so we were concerned. That said, once she took our order for drinks they came pretty quickly I've been to Scullers many, MANY times and because there are so few jazz places in Boston I consider myself a regular. That said, as others have noted, there are a lot of tables packed together closely, and for me the best seats are on the left side of the room and near the stage where there is less crowding. The upper level of the room only works if you are in the front row of tables as those behind will likely have someone blocking the view of the stage. The seats at the very back of the room are high tables and better for viewing the stage, but you are at the mercy of fellow patrons if they are prone to chat instead of watching the show.

First and foremost, we are lucky to have Scullers because it is ridiculously hard to find a live…read moremusic jazz venue in Boston. That being said, the place COULD NOT BE MORE ANNOYING. Food service is offered for the entirety of the shows, so just as your favorite band is hitting stride near the end of their last set, large platters of French fries and steaming salmon entrees are still making their way through the concert hall (there is nothing like the smell of a fried fishy dinner being consumed at a dark cafe table on both sides of your table). The kitchen door swings open constantly to accommodate food delivery: the fluorescent light that strobes the mezzanine is Walmart parking lot bright. The drinks menu is uninspired, and in these days where alcohol free cocktails/beverages are often requested, Sculler's offers only Michelob (that's right, Michelob) Ultra Zero. This particular Hilton Doubletree has historically (going back 20 years) struggled with its parking system, their exit scanner often does not work, an attendant has to be called and the line backs up to the third level. My suggestion: get rid of pay for parking, improve your bar menu (charge more for drinks!) and shut down food service during performances out of respect for the performers. The place could also use a house band that can open for the main act and perform on off nightS (hello Berklee College of Music). In summary: YOU NEED A BETTER MANAGER. On a positive note, the waitstaff could not be nicer.

There is a balcony area if you wish to pay extra for your ticket as well, but it is a bit farther from the stage so if you want up close and personal, go GA and get there early. Limited street parking, but ample garages very close that charge $20 for event parking. Departing was quicker than a lot of venues I have been to from garage just up the street. Security and staff are quick to process and get you in. May want to pregame as drinks are a bit spendy here. Restrooms set off from the floor with dedicated entrance and exit to make the traffic flow good. Good smaller venue to get up close and personal for a show.

Has a…read moregeneral admission on the ground level which is where we were, and also a balcony level - tickets are a bit more expensive for that level. It's all standing room. The high ceilings make it seem huge. The stage is large and spacious too. They had this red billowing curtain covering for the opening acts before the main band. Sound was great. Also the lighting effects for the different songs was good. We were quite close to the stage so had a great view. Great show! Restrooms are in the back and even though at the end of the show the women's had a long line but it moved fast. There are 17 stalls so that definitely helps move the line. There is a merch counter and a bar. The bar closed at the end of the show, so if you're looking for drinks or water make sure to get them during the show. Overall we had a great time!
