"The Oak Openings Region is a globally rare ecosystem composed of over 130 square miles in Northwest Ohio. The land consists largely of oak savanna and grassland prairie. It is considered by The Nature Conservancy as having a similar ecological importance as the Florida Everglades and is one of the 200 "Last Great Places on Earth"." It is amazing. Check it out!

Let's start with summer... pontoon sun deck with diving board, dock with diving board, water slide... Plenty of room to lay out. Just about anything under the sun can be rented for maximum enjoyment.. paddle boards, boats, paddle boats, floats, rafts etc etc. all reasonable prices. Here with family? A roped off sandy beach area with a couple floats for the kids to enjoy. Also- ADA water toys to help those that need help getting into the water. A nice touch! Did I mention an ice cream cart that drives around?! Or if you don't want to wait... a snack bar with all the options... water/pop/gaterade and snacks... including ice-cream. Want to host a party? There is a barn. Or a pavilion and plenty of upgrades to make the day fun including grills to rent or comfortable lounge chairs. Rentals are endless.... Anything and everything to make the day great. I was walking thru the trails also on a beautiful fall afternoon last month with the fall foliage in full effect. It was a beautiful sight with yellow and orange shades along with greenery that was coming toward the end of season. It was a very refreshing walk as I was making my way to a nearby sushi restaurant. The breeze was a little cooler and the temperature was around 60 degrees. A beautiful autumn day.

City-sponsored events are held here, like the annual Liberty Fest and carnival, summer music concerts at the amphitheater, and decorations are put up at Christmastime. Heritage Park is not the best park I've come across. I prefer larger parks with more trees and natural habitat, but I suppose it is better than nothing.

It's two acres of wilderness right on the edge of suburbia. You'll see a strip of mowed lawn along Willis Road, where it dead ends into Saline Milan Road. That's the northern edge of the park, which goes all the way back to the pond. Park on the street, or else in the gravel parking lot at Willis and Saline/Milan, opposite Fifth Corner. There are two paths into the wilderness. There is a faded map to help you chart your course. The trees are tall, so it's a good place to walk the dog on a chilly, windy day. If you go all the way to the shore of the pond, there are some benches, in case you want to sit and meditate on nature for a while. The pond sees a lot of action: mallard ducks, Canada geese, kingfishers, egrets, herons, etc. Most years, I have seen a pair of swans raise babies.

I was magnet fishing the far right side of the beach with my brother…read morewhen their were rocks being thrown out of the woods from that back right corner I would say about 4 the size of an apple one landed next to the far right buoy after we seen it fly from out of the woods this all happen at 8:00 pm. These weren't little splashes it looked like a cannon ball hitting the water and I have herd stories of the north west corner being haunted by a little girl who was killed. Miraculously, we were in the same spot of other numerous reports.
