This has always been a favorite stop of ours. We hosted a baby shower at the Buehner Center and had about 80 guests. Everything went very well. Plenty of tables and kitchen space for caterer. This is my favorite park. I love the walking trails with beautiful clear streams running over sand. Trails through evergreens that smell so unbelievably good. You can ride a horse, a bike or your legs. You can hear symphonic melodies made by 100s of frogs and see tons of wild life, did I mention there are sand dunes? "The Oak Openings Region is a globally rare ecosystem composed of over 130 square miles in Northwest Ohio. The land consists largely of oak savanna and grassland prairie. It is considered by The Nature Conservancy as having a similar ecological importance as the Florida Everglades and is one of the 200 "Last Great Places on Earth"." It is amazing. Great park. Lots of trails. Well maintained. Easy for me to get lost there though. . Beautiful ponds with abundant wildlife.

How do you review a Metropark? It was big. It had lots of trees. We had fun. All kidding aside, we are VERY lucky to have this beautiful, well cared for, gem in Northwest Ohio. Trails are numerous. Can never get bored since they change so much with the seasons. Been coming here since I was a child. I hope Toledo Metroparks will continue to attend to the peaceful nature aspects of the parks, and not too much on the commercial "Amusements". Although they are not native to Oak Openings region, save some of the pine forests please. Some species still need and enjoy them. (Like me!) A suggestion... Add a few more benches (log ones even) along the many trails for us old folks to rest and listen to the peaceful forest. A Zen moment. Om. Namaste. read more

If you like a park that kills wildlife, harvests trees for a profit and conducts annual burns that pollute the air and destroy the soil and wildlife, this is your park. I have lived in the area for over 60 years and have traveled through this park almost daily. It is sad to see what ignorance for nature is being done to this park. The powers-to-be just can't leave anything alone and let nature take its' course. The Director is a joke and unreachable when trying to discuss concerns. What you do see now are LARGE banners throughout the park trying to brainwash you claiming progress is being made while they have piles of tress and massive burns going on behind the signs. Simply disgusting in not being good stewards to the taxpayers' land. read more

Beautiful woodland park with pristine forrest, meadows and streams. The lodge reflects the setting and is a wonderful venue for meetings and gatherings. The mountain bike trails are new and very well constructed with bridges and a fun teeter totter. read more

My favorite Metropark in the Toledo area. The variety of trails is great, ranging from short loops that you can do in 30 min to the 15 mile yellow trail that takes 5 hours. Unfortunately they are cutting down a lot of the pine forest, which looks and smells amazing, honestly one of the best features of the park. But a lot of it is still left along the horse trails. I recommend exploring these when you've become familiar with the standard trails. read more

Amazing Metropark that we are blessed to live very close too. I remember visiting as a child & young adult when they kept whitetail deer in pens for public viewing! Now there are so many wild ones they have to cull excess populations to protect native plants from over-browsing! read more

I had the opportunity to spend the night at the White Oaks campground on Friday night. I have run the trails at Oak Openings many times and love the park but this was my first time camping there. I was very pleasantly surprised. I stayed at campsite #5 which was perfect for hammock camping. The facilities were close by, very clean, and plenty of provided firewood. We got a visit from the park ranger in the evening which was a pleasant surprise. She was super professional and took the time to chat with us for awhile. This made us feel even better knowing that she was getting to know who was at the park to be able to weed out any problems before they may arise. She even asked about our backpacking meal experimentation that we were testing before longer backpacking adventures. We will definitely be back and share our experiences with others. read more

Stupendous. Enormous. Gorgeous. We came here to bird, as it's often mentioned as a side-trip to the much more famous Magee Marsh Important Bird Area over on the shore of Lake Erie. But at least in late September, Oak Openings was far more productive bird-wise. Plus the area has better visitor facilities, a much wider variety of habitats, and is far bigger than Magee Marsh proper. This place is so unique and gorgeous, we'd consider living in the Toledo area for a year or two just to have it nearby. read more

Love this park. Tons of trails to explore. The playgrounds are nice for kids and the bathrooms are kept pretty clean as well. Overall, excellent place for trail walking, picnics, playgrounds or hosting an event. read more

Oak Openings is the largest and best Toledo Metropark. So many trails on about 5000 acres of natural wooded land with lakes, wild flowers, campground, horse trails, fishing, and picnic areas. There are even treehouses you can rent for overnight stay. read more

Something for everyone. There are beautiful winding trails for walking, running, biking and horseback riding. They have a lovely playground for kids and a few lovely little bodies of water. Pet friendly! read more

I stumbled upon this park after one of my geography courses mentioned it's large size. There are multiple places to park, and some lengthy paths you can run/hike/walk on. In the winter when it is deemed safe, one of the lakes has ice skating on it. The only downside is that it is near the Toledo airport. Luckily the airport is rather small, so you do not hear planes very often at all. While it is a bit of a drive from Toledo, it is well worth it. I highly recommend visiting at least once. read more

Oak Openings has a denser forest and is farther out in the country than the other metroparks in the Toledo area. It has a couple of different landscapes that you can hike through when you get there -- it is mostly giant pine trees but has a section with small sand dunes. It's fairly flat, and there are a couple good running trails. My favorite park of the park is a pond, a few parking lots in from the entrance, that has a picnick area and is surrounded by a well-kept trail, good for running. I believe you can also fish there. Be aware that parts of Oak Openings are still very swampy and can get excessively buggy in late summer/ early fall. read more

Walked the "silver" 3.2 mile trail and it was the perfect morning walk! Scenic, well marked and an appropriate difficulty level for what I was looking for. I think it's great that they also have horse trails as well! read more

The best park in the area, by far!!! I love this place!! Horse trails, bike trails and miles of hiking trails. Everything is "flat" here in Northwest Ohio, but thanks to this park, we can enjoy the pines and the wonderful nature that the Indians enjoyed hundreds of years ago. Great park. Oak Openings is huge. Many trails and lots of wildlife. My kids love going to the Mallard Lake area to look for creatures and play on the playground. Good place for kids to fish also. read more
