They have a cafe at this site where they make their cakes, and you can purchase a mix box of around 6 individual cakes for around $10 - they're the ones who don't make it to the cafes or they are 'not quite pretty enough' to be sold individually - well could've fooled me they're ALL so pretty. If you're on a tighter budget, get the off-cuts slices $6.50 for a tray that will feed your whole (small) office. There is a great variety of full price cakes and slices but you have to call in to see what slices are on 'sale' that day.

No chocolate no icing. This morning I went to pick it up. I stood for 15 mins (there is a clock behind the counter) waiting for anyone to acknowledge my existence. The girl at the register was standing staring into space ignoring me while another customer was on her phone. Clearly she can only deal with one customer at a time. Finally she asked me: do you want to order a cake too? No I just want to pick up. Annoyed she shouted out at other busy wait staff to assist me while she continued to stare into space. A busy girl came and asked me and simply grabbed a box just behind the counter and gave it to me. ! Opened it. Covered in chocolate. Seriously???? Cut the cake up last night. No strawberries except for the four on the top. A scape of jam that was barely there. No one likes it. Chucked the rest.

They were formally, and really still remain, known as Greensborough Cake kitchen. They enjoy a wide reaching and fantastic reputation as one of the best places in northeastern Melbourne to get a special event cake or even just a slice for a morning tea. They make amazing looking cakes here but really it is all about the taste. From a towering custard crockenbouche to their amazing range of Italian sponges filled with different Italian custards they do amazingly good cake. My most recent discovery is their lemon tarts. A completely reasonable $12 gets you a family sized tart that is both zingy and creamy and just lemon flavoured heaven on a plate. They also do home made pies and have a few tables in store for customers to enjoy coffee and desert or light meals. Pelligra has moved to a new location on Main Road just behind Greensborough Hotel. I would like to think they are my secret, but who am I kidding? Book ahead if you have a special event or over Christmas as this place gets crazy busy!

Keeping in the back of my mind that I can't let the name fool me into comparing The Cheesecake Shop…read moreto The Cheesecake Factory back home; this place is good to pop into for a quick cheesecake. Whether it's a last minute birthday or you're on your way to a dinner party, everyone likes a good cheesecake, right? We ordered a full caramel cheesecake to celebrate a birthday with. It was fluffy in texture and a thinner base than to what I'm used to, but it's still got that cheesecake richness. There's Plenty to choose from, but nothing really out of the ordinary or slightly creative. The only one was passionfruit which stuck out to me, but again, we ended up taking home the caramel, as a safer bet. You can order ahead if you needed something special. Or you can just grab a slice or two. Or hey, even a half a cheesecake. To me, that's not how you want to show up anywhere though, bringing a half of anything really. But either way, that choice is yours. For an extra $5 they can write a message either directly on the cake or on a chocolate plaque. Everyone who tried the cheesecake liked it, but there was the unanimous thought that it was too rich. Now, it's close to day 3 of a fridge cheesecake and there's still half of the cake left. It'll end up uneaten and in the bin. This is a crime to those cheesecake gods watching over us and it should never happen, but I guess I'll just accept it for what it is. Oh wells. Will I come back? Only if I need a half a cheesecake. Or a guilty slice.

The filling is well seasoned with melt in your mouth chunks of beef. The pastry is delicious and buttery... but not messily over the top flakey. Spot on! Carol's offer normal sized pies for around $5 and a family sized pie for around $20. They have frozen stock at times so you can save it away in the freezer for when you have a pie craving (if you can resist not eating it straight away!!) Carol does some enormous (huge!) sausage rolls which are delish as well. Not your dubious quality servo sausage roll. These are top notch! There's also other dishes available which I'm yet to try ... However I'd imagine they're bang on yummy home cooking (... but better than home cooking) going by what I've tried so far!!! Recommend you stop by, but please leave a pie or two for me ;)

Carol and her husband Keith run this place by themselves, with an emphasis on top notch food. They provide fresh baked goods and also pre-made meals. The shop itself is neat and clean. There are display cases as soon as you walk through the door, and depending on what they've whipped up, you could buy anything from muffins, salads, mac and cheese, biscuits, pasta bakes, cakes etc... But for me, the stand out item here is her pies. I have never had a pie this delicious. In fact, I might be under selling them a tad...these are the best pies in Melbourne! The pastry is perfectly flaky and golden and inside is the most amazing fillings. My favourite is the chunky beef, but she also does many other styles such as curried beef mince, Thai chicken and lamb. I'm probably leaving out a few but you get the idea. This is one of those places you would go out of your way to visit just to get some beautiful home style comfort food. Carol and Keith always make you feel welcome.

The thought alone of cupcakes being delivered to my door take me straight to Cloud 9 in Foodie Heaven. But I have to pinch myself, this is no dream. I have a happy gift bag in my hand now. Inside the house, I take a bright pink box out of the gift bag. Lifting the lid, I had 12 gorgeous cupcakes gleaming right at me. Three cards were inside: one of the cupcake flavors, another listing the Cupcake Queens locations across Melbourne, and the last was the best: containing a birthday message from my family in Canada. I don't know what sorcery this was, that I had cupcakes in front of me, and a loving message from Canada. Talk about how global the world is?! It still surprises me and makes me feel like a special little butterfly. You can only imagine how I spent the rest of my day...Stuffing my face with cupcakes and tea watching chick flicks. It was bliss. I was in absolute love with these cupcakes from The Cupcake Queens. They were so colorful and pretty looking. I couldn't help but taking a cupcake photo shoot with each of them. And the taste was so balanced. The cake itself was dense and not just fluffy air that you can find in some cakes with no substance. The frosting got me, creamy and thick and it gave me starry sugar eyes. Not only were these cupcakes eye candy Instagram worthy, the taste and flavor was in the ten's. I wish I could go on a rave forever exclaiming about how wonderful these cupcakes are, but maybe you should just go and try them for yourself!

Upon emailing the Cupcake Queens, there was no apology issued, simply a defensive response stating this was one of their busiest days and so they couldn't help being late. I had been assured that my order would arrive within a specific time window and had arrived extra early to receive it. When the cupcakes finally arrived, the delivery men informed us that they weren't told they had to be here early. In addition to the defensive customer service response we were fed with the good old 'we can't control traffic and weather conditions' and 'this is one of our busiest days', none of which we'd been told were conditions of our order when we fully paid for the cupcakes up front. Really disgusted with the service and will never order from them again.
