Unfortunately I did not have a positive experience with Witch City Segway. I had booked a tour for two on April 28. The tour was scheduled for noon Sunday, May 11. I had a friend from out of town coming in specifically for the Segway tour. On May 10th while out to dinner with my out of town guest. I recieved an email stating that the tour was canceled. I frantically called and emailed them explaining that I had booked the tour nearly two weeks ago with a groupon which expires at the end of May. At this point all dates are sold out for the remainder of May and I was sitting with someone who drove for hours to go on the tour! Allan R. Danley, a public relations specialist, responded with possible worst customer service I have yet to experience. I received the email at 5pm the night before. There is no mention on the website of Witch City Segway being closed on Mothers Day. I had in fact been able to book 2 weeks prior. Here is his reply: "Sorry you feel that way. We did tell you almost a full day in advance. If your tour was at noon time right now is 16 hours away. Tomorrow is Mother's Day. Please if want to post a yelp review that is your choice. I will respond in kind. That you would rather people miss their day off to spend with their mother so your Segway Tour can happen. I'm sure groupon will refund your voucher." Ironically, this was our Mother's Day present from our families. My issue is not that they were closed on Mothers Day but that they advertised that they were open, allowed me to booked a trip, then canceled it 16 hours prior. I would have preferred to have proper notice so that I could plan something else and not to be spoken to in such a rude manner. read more

Do not let how absurd Segway scooters look when they pass you on the street keep you from missing out on how much fun they are! I went on an evening tour in October, right after the inventor of the Segway had committed suicide by riding one off a cliff. My friend and I put on our helmets and glided down the street, people yelling things at us in the Masshole manner that I've come to miss. And you know what? We barely even noticed. That's how much fun this was! Honestly, if you go fast enough, it feels like you're flying over concrete. They should attach brooms to the side of these so it looks like you're flying when you speed by at night! side note: i'm ridiculously clumsy and was worried about tipping one of these over or falling off. I have to say it took me maybe 2 minutes to get used to how you had to balance yourself on one and to glide through the evening streets of Salem like a pro! read more

SEGWAY - FUN!!! Traipsing about on foot can be tiresome and in Salem things are a bit spread out, so it's easy to walk a few miles. Gliding about on a Segway is treat in itself and against the backdrop of the history, art and culture of Salem, it's a double treat! It took me a few minutes to feel comfortable on the Segway. The controls are intuitive and the machine really does all the work. The tour guides are careful, fun, generally knowledgeable and attentive. If you are up for seeing a lot of the city, but not keen on a major hike, this is a marvelous way to get about in style. We had a Blast! If you have never been on a segway, you shouldn't wait another day. It is easy to learn and incredibly fun. With just a few minutes of instruction and practice, it feels second nature. Our guide,Captain Sean was knowledgeable, funny and extremely safety conscious as we hummed around beautiful old Salem. What an awesome way to see Salem! The 5-star rating says it all. The tour guides were extremely friendly and gave a good overview of the history of Salem and the witch trials. They were extremely accommodating, making sure everyone was comfortable and tailoring the tour to our interests. My girlfriend and I didn't bring jackets (didn't realize how cold Salem would be vs Boston) and one of the guides was nice enough to go back and grab a couple for us to borrow. visited Salem with my mom for a day and decided to try a segway tour since neither of us have ever rode one. I was very concernd about mom since she's 65yrs old and doesnt have the best hand/eye coordination. turns out riding a segway is totally easy and the tour was tons of fun. This was one of the funnest (if thats a word) things I have done in a long time. Even though I am a long time resident of MA, I have yet to see much of Salem. This was the best way to do it. We did the two-hour tour. It's tons of fun. The tour stops themselves aren't the most exciting, but riding the Segways is totally fun, and it's a well-laid out route with plenty of time and interesting places to go buzzing along. The guides (Jeff was our lead guide) are great. They are genuinely friendly, easygoing, and interested in the history of the place (I believe Jeff grew up in Salem, but I'm not 100% sure); there's no faux friendliness that's so easy to find. I also liked their attitude towards safe operation of the machines: sensibly cautious but not paranoid or lawyerly. They want you to have fun and it shows. I'd never been on a Segway before. The first time you get on, it seems pretty insane, but you quickly get the hang of it. Soon it becomes very intuitive; you pretty much will yourself to go and it happens. I thought nothing would compare to riding a Segway in Bermuda; I was gladly wrong!!! Our guide Dan got each one of us settled comfortably on the Segway before taking us to the parking lot for a few minutes. Once he was comfortable with our abilities we were off and rolling! Such a great way to see Salem! Being on a Segway allows you to cover A LOT of territory and multiple areas of Salem in two hours. Dan was in charge of making certain we were ALWAYS safe and he was incredibly respectful of the "rules of the road". I had an absolutely fantastic time last Saturday, July 16th, when my friend and I went Segway-ing in Salem with Sean. He was a great guide, very accommodating and, most importantly, made sure that we were very comfortable with the segways before departing on our tour. His attention to our safety was well appreciated. Riding segways is a hoot! What a great invention. Salem is a fascinating town with interesting history and superb architecture. I heartily recommend indulging yourself with Sean and Witch City Segway. Also, the inventor of the segway, Dean Kamen, is not dead. He owns DEKA and has recently invented an inexpensive, portable water system that can convert filthy water to clean drinking water. He's an awesome guy. Check out his company. The fellow who died was a 62 year old tycoon named Jimi Heseldon. He owned Segway, Inc., lost control of his segway, and plunged off a limestone cliff in West Yorkshire, England. read more

As a Salem resident, I'm pretty familiar with the lay of the land and the history of the city, but these guys had plenty to add and the Segways themselves allow visitors to really see the city in a way that you can't from a trolley, bus or car. Sure, you could walk but the Segways cover more ground in less time and are a blast to ride! We always take out-of-town visitors on a Segway tour with WCS and they've never failed to train us in short time (including in-laws). Highly recommended to all first-time Salem visitors - when the tour is over, you'll have a good understanding of the city, where you want to spend time and what you only need a quick visit to take in. Six of us took the one-hour tour yesterday and it was fantastic. Jeff and Tim, the instructors/guides were professional and fun. I've been on other Segway tours (Chicago, Boston), so I have something to compare it to. The Segways themselves were lighter and easier to manage than others I've been on. And they have an amazing turn radius--you can turn all the way around while you're standing still! There was much history and information served in an enjoyable way. As an added feature, we went to Salem Common and were able to enjoy the many paths on our own (within the Common area) for a nice chunk of time. Very fun! Was gifted with a tour as a father's day present and despite living in this city, have never done much in the way of 'touristy' activities. But having done this, next time any out of town guests (or anyone else for that matter) are looking for something that talks to them about Salem, I am going to recommend doing a Segway Tour (and just might join them!!) Terrible. Made online reservation with credit card for 2 person $120 tour and business was closed. Called main number for help, Boston Segway, apologetic but no help. Asked for coupon or discount to come again but no. Emailed owner but no response. Witch City Segway is an amazing and scenic adventure through historic Salem, Ma. My wife and I went for the tour on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. You get a little tutorial in the segway shop before departing for the tour. The guides are great and are as patient as necessary for beginners to advanced riders. The biggest(and most pleasant) surprise for me on this tour was the knowledge of the tour guide Jeff. I was planning on a little history while riding through Salem, but this guy knows his stuff and blew us away with his facts and insight. Even though i'm from the area i still learned a lot and my wife was impressed as well. Our 2nd guide, Brad, was also informative and funny and made the overall experience top rate. Our tour was scheduled for 2 hours and we never felt rushed and it actually went a little over the scheduled time. The segways are so much fun and very easy to ride. its almost better to NOT think and just go. I am HIGHLY recommending Witch City Segway. We're planning a return trip with more friends! read more

An outstanding adventure in Salem for locals and tourists alike! If you have ever wondered what it would be like to zip around on a Segway, these tours highlighting some of the popular sights of Salem are just the ticket. Plenty of instruction is provided in operating the Segways, and stops are planned at intervals throughout the excursion so you can hop off and stretch your legs, use the facilities, etc. - very nice considering some tours are 2 hours. The guides are teriffic and will provide more or less historical information depending on the interest of the tour participants. (Many people seem to be primarily interested in riding the Segways, and the guides definitely understand!) However, they know what they are talking about and can provide cool information about the history of Salem and the surrounding area if you are interested. Highly recommended!
