Half way on the trip driver turns off meter and claims trip will be $33 instead of the customary $15 to $17 because this is her business and she can charge this. Cordial and nice, but undependable and a "no show". I made a reservation two days prior for a ride to the hospital, which he approved. A day prior, I texted to remind him, which he acknowledged and gave me the time I would be picked up. The designated time came and went. Now concerned, I phoned him. Used WJJ for a recent visit to Pahoa (from Hilo) and the driver (Johnny) was such a sweetheart. Told our small group lots of fun stories and was just so pleasant. It was in the evening and the roads to Pahoa were dark, narrow and scary but I felt safe since Johnny knew his way around and didn't drive like a maniac. Used WJJ Taxi on 1/12/18 when my teenage son and I had to get from Hilo airport to Kona airport to catch a flight. Our flight was going to leave in less than 4 hours and i was starting to panic. Taxi dispatcher gave me a set price for the ride and told me to wait for the driver. Jana arrived promptly. Mini van was clean and comfortable. The ride was a pleasant one because Jana was friendly, positive and just wonderful :) Safe, professional and courteous service! My partner and I took a long cruise in October, 2012. Started from Florida, went through the Panama Canal and then over to the Hawaiian Islands. Hilo was our first port of call after several days with no land in sight. We thought Hilo was a bust, the excursions and tours didn't seem to interest us, so we got off the ship. Was at a shopping center and this taxi pulls, up, "WJJ Taxi and Tours". He was dropping off passengers to shop. We asked if he had any reasonable and quick tours, as our ship left later in the afternoon. Johnny was our driver and amazing. He ended up taking us to Akaka Falls and the Japanese garden. The tour was a little over 2-hours and under $100. First of all...this is Hawaii, and tours / excursions are NOT cheap. Nothing is. Second, Johnny was a gem. It was just the 2 of us and he actually didn't just take us to the Falls, but gave us an in-depth narrated tour. His car would easily seat 6 to 7 passengers and was extremely clean. That means "no smoking" at a minimum! For real, we couldn't have asked for a more polite, gracious host to give us a tour of a small part of Hilo. When we go back, we will give Johnny or WJJ Taxi & Tours a call. ...oh, and a little secret...this guy can sing the national anthem of several countries, lol! What a gem! Johnny is a very nice man. He's very friendly and professional. He chose to take us to the airport on a day when the cruise ship was in town. Potentially passing up the money for a half day or full day tour, he wanted to make sure that he took care of the local residents first. We were gone nearly a month and requested a pickup upon our return at a specific time. He texted me the morning of our return to make sure that he had the right flight number and that our flight was on time. He was waiting for us as our bags were coming off the carousel. The Marshall taxi that we reserved the night before to pick us up at 10:00 am to get to the airport 2.5 hours early for our flight called us at 8:00 am the day of our flight. He asked us if we wanted to get to the airport and hour earlier, because he had to go "out of town." I asked if we should just call another taxi and he said tat would be a good idea. WJJ Taxi and Tours happened to be next on the list and we were lucky they were. He arrived a few minutes early and helped with our 7 heavy bags and the large dog kennel with a smile on his face. At the airport he helped us with all of our bags again, and provided interesting conversation on the way. If we ever need another taxi in Hilo, WJJ will be our first call. read more
