As a whole, I give Waste Management about a 3.5, but for their sharps recycling written about below... definitely a 5! I recently discovered that we residents of Washoe County have a free, safe, and easy way to dispose of our "sharps". All states and counties have different rules and unfortunately (or fortunately...depends on how you look at it) Washoe County's are the strictest rules in Nevada. BUT, I did not give up so easily. I kept researching it online and discovered something that evidently not a whole lot of people know... "Any resident of Washoe County can bring in a sharps container and they will dispose of it for FREE! No questions asked. Any business can drop off a sharps container and they will dispose of it for a fee (5-6 gallon = $18.54, 32 gallon = $32.01)" If you do not have to deal with sharps (needles from hormone shots, diabetic needles, etc), this won't mean as much to you, but if we didn't have this free service, we would have to mail them to a certain place for disposal for a fee of over $40 (for a container that holds about 30-70 days worth). That is why I was so desperate to find a better way. That was for a container that I already paid over $7 for and the medication for daily AGH hormone shots that thankfully I only have to pay a little over a $1 a day (after insurance). It was really adding up, so this is an amazing deal. I was talking to my father-in-law & sister-in-law on Thanksgiving and realized that neither of them knew about this free service. It sounds like my fil was paying to mail them back for YEARS and my sil has a stash she has been building up since she didn't know what to do with them and couldn't afford to pay to send them away. This means that doctors and pharmacists either do not know about this or at least are not telling their patients. SO, if you don't have to deal with sharps, at least talk with your older family members and friends and make sure that they know about this wonderful program! This doesn't only help those who have to deal with sharps, but also the whole community by keeping dangerous used needles out of the landfill or otherwise carelessly discarded. Monday 5/17/2021, my mom had a small antique oven by her trash for pick up. She went to see if the trash had been collected and saw a piece of paper stuck on the recycling bin. The paper stated that her recycle wasn't being picked up due to contamination. So she brought both bins back up to her house. Later that day, another waste management truck went driving by her house. Turns out that one wasn't the recycle pick up, not the truck that left the note saying her recycle wasn't being picked up. So the first truck was trash and the filled out the form wrong. Her recycle wasn't contaminated, the oven was. So I finally convinced her to call and she did on Wednesday, May 19. She was told it would be picked up within 72 business hours, so not including weekends. Yesterday she called to see what the deal was and she was told it was canceled because someone drove by and the bin wasn't out. She has two cameras out front that can prove otherwise. She too nice to call again. So I came here to say you guys suck and I'm not surprised by your lacking star rating. Not that you guys care. We aren't left with much of a choice but to use you. Having visited these facilities earlier today, I now understand why so many people dump illegally. They don't make it easy and there's several different facilities in the area and inadequate signage to determine which one you need if you're doing something like getting rid of e-waste. Oh and they don't take paint there. That has to go to a totally different facility that's not part of Waste Management. That one was actually well run. read more

Inefficient infrastructure. I was waiting in line in my truck for 45 mins before I could get out and leave. Didn't even get half way to the entrance, probably would've taken another hour. With our city growing, it's imperative that our infrastructure grows with it, otherwise you have instances like these where an institution cares more about marketing it's fresh new image than making sure the facility can handle the influx of customers. read more

Does anybody regulate these people? The dumping process at the Commercial Row transfer station is easy and convenient, but the pricing is impossible to understand. I'm cleaning up a neglected half-acre lot and recently made four trips in two days in a small pickup. The loads were identical, loosely piled branches, weeds and miscellaneous yard debris, nothing toxic, everything compostable, no large pieces or rocks. The prices ranged from $29 and change to more than $42, with no explanation. When I asked why, I was told, "I don't set the prices, sir." But who does, and how? read more

Me and my girlfriend went here on a Saturday afternoon to dump some yard debris. We had two toddlers with us and we're greeted by a blonde woman at the gate. You could tell instantly she was mad at the world. Before asking for our ID or anything she wanted to charge me $48.00 to dump some weeds. I explained to her that we pay for trash and we have a certain number of free dumps for the year at the transfer stations. Her attitude was terrible. Our two toddlers were very happy and were trying to talk to her and ask her what her name was. She completely ignored them and wouldn't even acknowledge them. Finally after she checked our ID she let us in, not for $48 but using one of our free trash dumps for the year. Terrible customer service here. If I didn't have morals I would just dump this stuff in the desert instead of dealing with this woman again. read more

I am completely disappointed with service provided by WM. Since Feb of 2019 they have increased their rates by almost 10%, and their service is in the dumpster (pun intended). With no pick up of tagged bags in the last two months they actually have the nerve to increase costs to their consumers at a time when consumers are dealing with the financial aspects of Covid-19. I am unfortunately obliged to use their service due to my HOA. We need alternative trash companies in the area to compete with WM and bring their prices down. If I could I would not use their service. Reno/Sparks give us some other choices. I am careful to not overload containers and keep the trash contained often I come out to trash on the street left by the pick ups, that I must clean up. Incredibly rude workers. No signage. No explanation about where to dump in the messy large area. Almost can't believe this gets allowed.

Why is so hard to find prices online or call and get someone who knows the answers. It is just garbage. They have a monopoly on trash so just tell me how much it will cost for special items. i.e mattresses, fridge, tv, sofa, or even a price per cubic foot would be great. read more

Waste Management stopped picking up our recycling weeks ago. Called and they picked it up the next day and were apologetic even though they asked the stupidest questions ( was your container outside WTF? What time did you put your container out? ) ridiculous!,are you sure it's the right day? Then this week they didn't pick up our container AGAIN!!!!! Although, they picked up our next door neighbors! Unbelievable! Called again said they would be right out, picked up the other side of the street and STILL left our can sitting there!!!! This has Never happened before VERY ODD. Customer service has been nice but, no results with the employees picking up the recycle containers. WORST company EVER!!! Left extra bags out WITH stickers ( of course not picked up!) called and they said because of covid virus the guys didn't want to touch the bags so, you can no longer leave extra bags out. ( GREAT, TOTALLY FINE) but, can you give us a heads up? Plenty of my neighbors had extra bags too! Put a sicker or note on our cans or send a letter? It's pretty healthy leaving garbage bags all over BUT WAIT! You can certainly go out and buy another can yourself and they will do that! EXCELLENT! Put the new can out this week along with regular garbage and guess what????? NO GARBAGE pick up? Called up and message said they are picking it up TOMORROW! Not even a regular business day! I just wish I had a larger storage area for my recyclables. As it is my small car can't carry a great big bunch of cardboard, newspapers, glass bottles, and all types of plastics. So I have to come here quite often. For me it is centrally located because it is near my doctors office at Renown and I can go by there anytime I want to go to Sparks, it's on the way. For recycling it is quite a neatly kept facility. I am happy to see quite a few people taking advantage of recycling here instead of filling up the landfills or allowing more plastics to make their way to the ocean. read more
