After 22 days of not receiving our trash bin I emailed WM to refund my money. I spoke to customer service about a week ago and she suggested leaving the trash bags on the curb. I don't want to pick up trash debris from animals. WM used the call back feature, called me back and set me on hold going on 27 minutes now. Extremely dissatisfied. We will be using Lake Area Disposal and Recycling now. I updated to two stars because I was able to finally reach someone at the local office who quickly discontinued service and refunded all our money from the initial start of service 22 days ago. A problem with communicating with the office. All their emails were going to my junk mail (ha ha) so I wasn't getting my bill. I emailed them about this, saying to sign me up for automatic bill pay. I thought it was done, it wasn't. No one contacted me that there was a problem, they just stopped picking up my garbage - that was their genius solution. On their website, there is no phone #. I tried to email them but they keep coming back as "undeliverable". I tried the Chat Lady and in the middle, she said, "Sorry, technical difficulties!!" and cut me off. There's just no way to contact them if there's a problem and they don't contact you, they just let problems fester until they're out of control. For the 2nd time I signed up for automatic bill pay - I hope it "takes" this time. If it doesn't, then the joke's on them. Since it's 98 in the shade, they'll all pass out when they pick it up next week (if they do) and they deserve it. read more

I have had garbage out by the driveway to be picked up for 15 days. Yes, 15 days. I understand a shortage of help, but 15 day? I called again and the automated attendant said Tuesday pickup. That is three weeks with garbage in front of my house. Coons are having a picnic. I have tried to call 4 times, left a message with new service to call me back. I waited my allocated 5 minutes for 30 minutes and no response. I tried to text help and got a bot with the number to call. Communication with this company is awful. Holidays are a mess. Unless they want their high payment, then they are right on top of me. I would highly recommend another company. BTW, we have been customers for 30 plus years. They don't give a shit. I waited months for my trash bins, finally get them. Then there was an issue with my card ( not there fault). I paid it resolved the issue last week, then I come home to my trash bins being gone. communication is definitely lacking here. read more

Horrible customer service, driver speed up and down the road. Been waiting 6 months for my extra can I paid for. Drivers leave the extra bags that aren't in the can because I still 6 months later have no can. If you want to cancel they don't reimburse you for the time you paid in advance they just keep your money. Unbelievably terrible service. About half the time they don't even bother to come and pick up the trash and recycling. I have to call them to remind them to bring it and then that takes them between one and two more days to bother to come pick it up. I will be switching my service. Do not recommend. Waste Management has very sketchy billing practices. Waste Management is running a big scam in Springfield. I cancelled my service in September and moved out of state. They did not pick up my trash cans as promised at the end of September. Instead they continued to charge my account for services and additionally charged me for the cost of the trash cans. I called multiple times to try and sort through this. I talked to Chianta, Eduardo, Jandi and Brianna. All of these people promised to look into it and call me back, yet not a single one of them did. My main problem with WM is that they made no effort to contact me when they were unable to pick up the cans on the promised day. If they had, I would have made arrangements before leaving the state to have a neighbor take the trash cans back in and then put them back out once again. I was not given the courtesy of that option. Additionally, I was retroactively informed that WM will continue to automatically bill your credit card indefinitely. Beyond contacting customer service and canceling service, the customer is responsible for contacting their credit card and stopping auto payments. Seriously. They make no mention of this when you call to cancel your service. This practice is sketchy at best, bordering on illegal. I eventually talked to Brad Nation and he took no responsibility for them not contacting me when WM was not able to pick up the trash cans as scheduled. Apparently, I was supposed to stand out in the alley and watch over the trash cans until at some point when it was convenient for them to swing by and get them. It is my opinion that WM DID pick up my trash cans and and they are charging me anyways. Nobody wants your trash cans, WM. I highly recommend using Republic Services for your trash. They were able to do a final pickup of my trash cans, final billing, and cancel my account on the agreed date and it only took one phone call. UPDATE: Again I have had to call Waste Management. They billed my account for another $270 this month even though the account shows that they received payment for this amount just last month. Apparently I get to spend the rest of my life calling Waste Management once a month to dispute charges no matter how long ago I cancelled service with them. read more

Customer service is awful. I thought I had everything arranged when I cancelled my service. Weeks later and they are still billing me. I've called numerous times and they promise me it's been resolved, and then they merrily go on billing me. Worst of all is that they picked up my trash container and then charged my account for the trash can. Since I can't prove that they picked up the trash can, I'm just out of luck. I was told sorry, they went to my property and there was no trash can. Because they'd already picked it up 2 weeks earlier!!! Those cans are really expensive and I just have to suck it up and pay for it or they will put it on my credit report. I needed a dumpster for a renovation project, and Waste Management was $300 more expensive than the company I ended up going with. I probably wouldn't have even called a different company had i not been in the middle of wrangling with WM customer service. I guess charging me for that trash can was penny smart, pound foolish. You have a choice of trash services in the area. Waste Management will cost you more in both dollars and aggravation. Run for your life. read more

If I could put less then one star, I would. We pay a year up front, a couple years ago we accidentally realized 2days after the bill was due (they send no reminders and thankfully my husband remembered). He got on the website, paid the year up front and went on with his day. The next pickup was the week after Christmas and they passed us up, we assumed it was an accident and just waited until the next week. The next week they passed us again. At that point we checked our bank and made sure the payment had gone through and it had. So we checked our account online to find that several days after we paid they attached a $15 late fee and because we didn't pay that right away (who regularly checks their garbage account??) they canceled our services (KEEPING THE HUNDREDS WE HAD PAID TO HAVE SERVICE FOR THE YEAR). We called and after a HASTLE to talk to someone they told us we would owe $70 to restart our services. It was when I demanded my money back (over $400) and to cancel the entire account did they realize maybe applying late fees days after the fee was paid (mind you it was always paid come trash day) that they were wrong. This company is horrible, missed pickups all the time, charges way more then other places and is impossible to talk to. So glad we found a new company. read more

This company is a joke. I paid monthly and my recycling was almost never picked up unless I called and complained, but when I did call their records showed that either the recycling HAD been picked up or that there was nothing on the curb. One time my recycling bin sat at the curb for over 8 consecutive weeks never moving (killing my grass) and it took multiple calls before it was actually picked up. When I cancelled service all of a sudden my garbage can (that had lived in my alley for four years) has suddenly disappeared (though none others in the alley disappeared) and I'm being charged $100. I thought it was taken care of (as I was told when I called about it that the charge would be removed) until months later when I get a bill and a threat to go to a collections agency. Now I am informed the charge will be removed if I file a police report that the garbage can was stolen. Why wasn't I told this months ago instead of being told the charges would be removed. Yard waste pick up also a joke. Supposed to buy stickers at hardware store but even with stickers items sat but weeks and months never being picked up unless called to complain. Normal garbage pickup was usually ok and on time. Horrendous customer service and garbage service. Don't ever sign up to use this company. read more

First, always had very good service from the actual WM truck drivers/haulers. However if you need to ask a question of their company, good luck getting through. Nice & polite customer service rep. that handles this section of the state, but again good luck trying to actually speak to a local person. If you want to recycle corrugated cardboard feel free to cut down the box (not a big deal) and make a 2'x 2' bundle and slap a purchased WM sticker on it but it goes into trash NOT recycle. If you bring the cardboard to WM facility it also goes into trash. According to rep WM no longer recycles corrugated cardboard. It's expensive. Lesson learned is use local LAKE AREA DISPOSAL Service, they actually recycle, are local and you are able to speak to a person that works at the facility!! Time to switch. read more

Our family originally had service with Illini disposal which was great. They would pick up whatever we put out early in the morning. Once WM bought them out, our service went downhill fast. They would always have an excuse as to why they didn't pick up our trash and come late in the day allowing the can(s) to blow over on windy days. read more

We used Illini Disposal for years and had no issues, when Waste Management bought out Illini we started having problems almost instantly. We received mail stating nothing would change. First the bill went up, then they changed our pick up day, then they stopped picking up all together. My husband noticed a note on the ground one day stating to take our cans up front they will no longer pick up in the alley ( no call, no mail, just a note that was on the ground). All of a sudden their truck won't fit down the alley..... I called to inform them if that was the case we would like to cancel service. I was informed I would be called back and never was. They then picked up trash in the alley the next day and for the following 3 weeks after.... and now again not picking up for 2 weeks. Long story short we will be changing companies. read more
