At age 11, while going through puberty my mom had brought me in for a physical. I was very shy, completely uncomfortable, and have no idea why a developing girl who was going through so many changes was brought to this man. He ran through the exam (I was offered no gown), lifted my bra without asking, and out of nowhere said "down with the panties" grabbing my underwear and ripping them off me with no warning, no explanation, and never asking for my consent. I felt attacked and assaulted, I kicked him away and pulled them back up. I was yelled at to remove them and finish the vaginal exam. I laid on the table and stared at the ceiling. I was told to bring my knees up, he grabbed my kneecaps and pulled them apart to open my legs. I did my best to fight back the tears and was still in shock. I was offered no apology, never asked if I would be more comfortable having a female finish the exam, I was made fun of and even bad mouthed to my mom. It completely traumatized me, I lost all trust in doctors. I felt like my body had been taken away from me and that my feelings didn't matter. A few months after this event my periods began, I now found it impossible to talk about my body with anyone and couldn't stand anyone touching me. I was terrified my mom would bring me back to him if I told her about my cramping and pain, so I stayed quiet for years and just suffered through it.
