I included a photo of the elevation during the hike. There are a number of parking spots at the trailhead (maybe 25 or so). During a weekday morning, there were only about 7-10 cars there. This is one of the two "must do" hikes in the New River Gorge National Park, and I'm glad we had the experience.

It took about half an hour to get our harnesses on and get shuttled to the bridge walk site. We spent about an hour walking the bridge one way and the shuttle picked us up at the opposite end. Our guide was Pete and he was full of bridge knowledge. He snapped a photo for us too. Most importantly, I also felt safe the entire time. The tour runs rain or shine. No refunds. We got lucky and it was clear skies (a little windy) for our 9:30am tour, but the 11am definitely got a bit wet later that day. Definitely a check off the bucket list while you're at New River Gorge NP!

We took a family vacay to New River Gorge National Park in August and we love chasing waterfalls,…read moreso we went looking for Butcher Branch Falls located on the Butcher Branch trail. When you go to the visitor center, NPS has a list of all the waterfalls in and around the area. To access these falls, you have to start from the Kaymoor Top trailhead to get to the Butcher Branch trail. - Parking - There is ample parking, 2 lots next to each other. Trail details: According to the All Trails app, the trail is about 1.3 miles out and back. The trail is well shaded and lots of trees. I suggest bug spray however. There are quite a few switchbacks. There are some spots where it will split into the Butcher Branch Trail and the climbing access. There is also an orange board to carry anyone out, but hopefully you or any of your people will not need to use that, but remember where it is, just in case. It had been raining off and on during our stay in the area, so the falls were flowing nicely. Great exercise and just a good time and reconnecting with Mother Nature. Tip: Download the NPS app and there are clear instructions on how to get there. Get outside and enjoy (and stay safe)!

There were technical and sketchy parts of the hike where you need to pay attention for sure footing. Many nice runoffs and waterfalls along the out and back. Did a quick stopover on the way to Hawk's Nest SP, and wow, this place is beautiful! One of the…read moremost frequently visited state parks in WV and it's easy to see why! The grist mill is absolutely iconic, sitting atop a picturesque waterfall. The park has a mountain lake for water activities, plenty of trails, and even cabins for longer stays! There's an Almost Heaven swing right by the mill and visitor's center, and the CCC stonework is stunning. The New River Gorge bridge is about 20-30 minutes away depending on how well you drive on mountain roads, and there's plenty to do in the area for a fun weekend or even longer! I will definitely be back myself!

It's marked as moderate to strenuous. We walked up the right side of the trail to see the huge rock formations, but looks like this trail is made for climbers! We saw all sorts of chalk marks and hooks. We also did explore the left side of the trail. There is a staircase made of big rocks, and then, there was a rope to climb, but it had been raining and we were with our kids and didn't really have proper gear, so we climb up it. According to the reviews on the All Trails app, there is a view? Pro tip: Download the NPS parks app and tap on the New River Gorge Park page and tap on Fayetteville area hikes. This trail is marked just Bridge Trail, despite the trailhead marker sign. Lots of info on parks in general! And you'll also find the audio of the driving tour that we did.
