A few of us drove 15 hours to West Virginia to go white water rafting this week. We were not wanting a wimp trip, clearly. We could not have been happier with our one day at New & Gauley River Adventure. We had Costa Rica Scott as our guide, who was not only hilarious, but a thrill-seeker for us as well. He went above & beyond to make this trip memorable. But not only is this for the thrill seekers, but families & those with medical problems too. Another raft group had a younger boy with a history of epilepsy, so they did the same trip, but did not maneuver the rapids the same as us. I cannot wait to come back and experience the rapids in the fall. I could not recommend these guys & the company (a mom & pop, homegrown company!) enough. Really regret booking with this company. Absolutely terrible. Do not support them. They were rude and liars. We were taken in by the great reviews but should have been warned when the person i booked with on the phone was rude already. Okay, fine, whatever.. It was a freezing torrential downpour on the day of our booking. We asked to reschedule, they said nope. After talking they finally said we can if we play a $120!! Rebooking fee. Why? They said they have already packed our lunches. Oh no.. My $2 sandwich from the grocery store will go to waste.. They also claimed they had sent 100 people down the river already that day, but later the guides told us we were the only boats out. Speaking of guides, our guide told us he was paid so little that he had to spend half a years salary on a wetsuit. Once we were on the water, we discovered another lie.. They said water time was 4 to 5 hrs, we were only on the river for 1.5 hrs. In the middle we pulled over to eat some soggy sandwiches.. Poor planning, we should have been given lunch later in the office where it was dry. Finally we got on shore and waited 30 minutes for the bus to arrive in the rain. The river itself was fun and the guides were nice but the company did what it could to ruin the experience. We googled Ace rafting which has cheaper prices and a better cancelation policy, and I'm sure there are others too. Don't make the same mistake we did. read more

We had a blast booking with this company! Everything was incredibly organized, the guides were very personable and knowledgeable (especially John Henry!) and the six of us had an absolute blast. I couldn't possibly recommend booking with this company more! We had a go pro mounted to one of our helmets--I recommend bringing the go pro helmet strap/mount. We had an awesome adventure! The stories the guides told about the local history made it even more interesting. We took Brendon advice and toured the Whipple Company Store, I learned more about WV history than all my years studying it in school. It's a must see, watch out for the man in the vault though... Extremely friendly staff and very accommodating even when it's really hectic. The sunsets from the on-site restaurant, the Burrito Bar, was amazing!! It's a very hippy place, everyone is welcome. We had such a great trip!!! We camped for two nights at their campground. The sites aren't well labeled, but we got there in early afternoon and were able to have our pick of several spots. The showers were hot and bathrooms fairly clean. Our guide, Patrick, and his trainee Andrew were awesome! We had a great day on the river with them both. We will definitely be back! You will never feel more comfortable while being scared out of your mind for an upper Gauley rafting trip with these guys. With this being the only mom and pap rafting company left in this area, you'll appreciate making choice to raft with them. You can tell from the first moment you meet the staff that they are there to do the best they can to make your experience one of a lifetime. I've been down the new river as well as both parts if the upper and lower Gauley with this gang and wouldn't do it any other way. Scottie T is by far my favorite guide. He is fun but serious when he needs to be. He is one of the most experienced guides in the whole industry of rafting here in West Virginia. Ask for him and you won't be let down... Tell him Ashley sent you! There many options of trips, choose the new river if you are nervous. But trust me you'll crave to try to upper Gauley. Some trips will serve you lunch ... And don't worry it's pretty good for eating on the river. Make sure you view the video of your trip if that is an option. You'll never see someone work so hard to make sure each boats rapid is caught on tape. Lil Perkins was ours this last trip and he did an amazing job! I'll never forget a moment of my trip now. I have to give one last bravo to the cook at the lodge. Some rafting packages come with breakfast and dinners and she does it up right. This isn't a five star hotel but you DEFINITELY get your money's worth on these packages. read more

Oh my gosh!!!! We had so much fun.. we went to celebrate our 14th year anniversary we went overboard on our tent however (pun intended) we bought a ten person tent for the two of us..and a big queen blow up mattress.. the worker at the burrito bar even used her car to blow up our mattress, that was nice, she saved our backs... So yes the lower Gauley rafting was much fun... kinda cold since it is October but so worth it!! INCREDIBLE guides (Ask for Anthony)! My 5 friends and I went this weekend on our first white water rafting trip. The employees were very friendly from check-in to leaving. Anthony was our guide to get us safety down the river, very fun, enthusiastic, chill guide. They are very serious about getting you down the river safe while having a blast. They give you plenty of time to learn how to paddle and handle situations. They provide a small lunch sandwich with chips and a treat. Don't waste your time! Not professional! We have rafted before with two other companies. We did the Full Day Marathon Run. We felt this company was not the best, to say the least! To begin with we did enjoy the rafting. What we didn't like was the people in our boat as well as the guides who were some of the most vulgar mouthed people we have ever heard in our 63 years. EVERY sentence had the F bomb in it. Even the guides were trying to entertain us with some of the most vulgar jokes you can imagine. Then they started making fun of a boat that had Christians in it. Not very professional to say the least. We also realized this company eats lunch at Sweet's Falls on a rugged cliff that is hard to get to. The rocks are wet and slippery and one woman twisted her ankle just trying to get to where lunch was being served. However across the water Ace was having their lunch on a wooden platform. We we're told it's a real estate issue. We quickly realized that the company we were with was not what we wanted in the future. Spending this kind of money (right at ($500) we really expected better. read more

Did the double express raft trip from cunard to fayette. Our guide was Bean and he was awesome! At first I thought that he was Zach Galifianakis, the comedian. But no, he just looks like him and is also incredibly funny and entertaining. When we approached the harder rapids like Keeneys and Double Z, having Bean as the raft guide made me feel a lot secure because he's very capable and he takes this profession very seriously. Then there is Scott who is also very funny. He talks a lot of sensible humor and looks out for his co-workers. He pitches heavily but nicely about (clients) showing appreciation for the great time at the hands of New and Gauley River Adventures staff. I am a long-time whitewater paddler and not a guest of this company. Two weekends ago I had a very unpleasant interaction with one of their trips. One of their guides yelled at my family while we were both trying to get through an access ramp (they were getting out of the river and we were getting in); more... the guide instructed his guests to trample over us, and as a result they violently pushed the raft over my wife and 12 year old daughter. After we contacted them asking for an explanation and apology they instead twisted facts and denied any wrong doing. The National Park Service law enforcement is now investigating my formal complaint. In the mean time I want to alert the public for this company's culture and the way they can involve their guests in violent altercations with other river users. read more

It was my first whitewater rafting adventure and it was so much fun! I cant lie to you...I was scared because I cant swim (I actually have a fear of water) and I just didn't feel like dying that day. Lately, I have been all about facing my fears and just having fun so my boyfriend signed our lives away. We got up early and drove to the location to put on our life vests and learn how to control our paddle. From the start, our instructors were stressing the importance of holding our paddles correctly and how to keep yourself safe should you fall in the rapids. I can appreciate that!! From the home base, we took a bus to the beginning of the rapids. Once we were there, we received further instruction and loaded into our rafts (gulp!). The rapids started off very calm and a young lady (her name slips my mind) was so awesome at directing us to paddle forward or backwards to control the boat when we approached the rapids. The rapids were scary but so awesome! I swallowed way too much water but I kept a smile on my face. We pulled over to jump from huge rocks and for lunch (sandwiches and cookies) which was cool! The whole trip took about 6 hours. I left the rapids soaked and a little cold but, I am already looking forward to my next adventure!! I love this company! Oh...one more thing! The most stressful part was riding on the bus back to the home base around those tiny roads up a hill! read more

We took my 79-year old mom rafting to check off a bucket list item for her. We were not disappointed in our day! New & Gauley River Adventures made sure it was an A+ experience from the moment I made the reservation. They suggested we use a senior guide and Buddha, our guide for the day, did not disappoint. I love the fact that two of the guides we rode with today live locally and grew up on the river. They know it like the back of their hands and shared history while guiding us expertly through class 3-5 rapids. They also suggested our family stay in one of their cabins and it is perfect - just cozy enough to be quaint, but modern enough to be comfortable. New & Gauley River Adventures - Our white water rafting adventure with Buddha, our guide - Horseback Riding Near Me - Lansing, West Virginia

We (my dad and I) found this little family-owned gem on google. We chose this place to go rafting because of the proximity of it to our motel we were stating at. We drove up a couple hours early, and we were greeted by a really nicely mannered woman. We walked around to kill time- the place was in decent shape, but it def had a rustic mountain feel. After everyone filed in, we were given a really funny and entertaining lecture of safety by a man named Scott(he later became our guide). You can tell the staff were all really close because they kept messing with each other during the orientation. We all got our gear and went onto an old school bus for a 45 min drive. The guides gave fun facts and cracked jokes the entire time, so the time flew by. The rafting was phenomenal on the New River. We had 6 on our raft, the other two had 8 and 9. The rapids were intense, fun, drenching, and exhilarating. They were literally periods of intensity and calm them intensity. They were a mix of class 3 and class 5(most intense). I was freezing the entire time, though. The water was decent, but the weather was awful-cold and overcast. But the guides really helped me out and lent me a water proof coat to keep me warm (: Lunch was provided for us: build-your-own sandwich with chips and dip, fruit, and veggies. PB+Js were also available. It went by so quickly- from the rapids to the jump rocks to the guides. Ask for Scott or Bryan- they all were awesome guides, but these two really stood out to me. We will def return ASAP!! read more

GREAT RAFTING COMPANY!!! I've been rafting in Ecuador, Idaho, and with another company on the New River and these guys were by far the best. The guides couldn't stop talking about how much they preferred working for this group compared to the others and their positive attitude and love for their work really made the experience. If you're looking for a demanding, thrilling time be sure to ask for "Whitey" (don't call him Aaron... lol). He is no nonsense on the river because, obviously, it can be very dangerous, but if you're willing to work he can show you a great time! read more
