They do have a clearance section towards the back of the store, but most of the stuff there was actually past its best before date. If you love gourmet stinky cheeses, they had lots! As for me, I'll just stick to brie, harvati and other benign to the nose cheeses thank you very much ;) Fun store to poke around. Lots of free parking.

They have everything an upscale kitchen could need - from the tools to the groceries, including (but not limited to) spices - right down the pepper and salt mills, cheeses, chips, dishes, pots and pans, and top end coffee makers. I will definitely be back to try out the coffee shop in the corner. You need the rest that refreshes (coffee) after a stroll through this shop. What was I waiting for?? They had some very good sales - leftovers from Christmas. I picked up a mug for myself (which had the design of a scarf and mittens. What can I say? I'm a knitter!) and one of those stoneware cookie molds which came with a recipe. This was on sale at a good price; I've seen it at double that elsewhere in the city. Did you know that there's a difference in the mechanisms of a pepper and salt mills? Apparently the salt can rust and corrode a pepper mill, and the pepper is too hard for a salt mill. Whodathunk?! I actually went in looking for coffee pots. The ones we have at work have been seriously used and abused. I'm also feeling the need for an espresso or latté machine, and was hoping I might find one of those nifty combo things here. Turns out that the design I'm thinking of is a bit passé. Too bad for me! However, the good coffee makers they have here are too good for work (read: expensive), and could almost be professional, like for coffee shops. So, I will have to keep shopping. Yum. I've just gotta say this place was very inspiring!!

The farmers are being really creative, providing pickled garden vegetables; fresh breads of different unimaginable varieties; all kinds of fresh veggies and so on. This market can be found Saturday mornings in the parking lot of that little plaza on the south side of Hazeldean at Carbrooke, where the Shoppers Drug is located at the east end of the plaza. So, there's plenty of parking. One thing, though: I really don't find the prices are that good. Why is it more expensive to buy things that are local? It's fun to go to these places, and splurge on ourselves once in a while, but I can't afford to shop this way all the time. Maybe it's time for me to start a serious garden for myself? Ah but then I'd miss the excitement of going to the Market! We did shopt here; purchased a tomato plant, and wonderful pickled garlic (oh boy was my breath bad! But I haven't caught a cold since!)

Tweed & Hickory is an upscale clothing and home decor store, which used to have a very decent kitchen supplies section that went by the wayside when The Unrefined Olive came into the space. Tasting bars for other foods have been around for a while; beer tastings come to mind; bakeries might offer a similar event. I have also been to another tasting bar for olive oil and balsamic vinaigrettes - but that was in BC. I didn't realize that there were such a thing here in Ottawa. Although your grocery stores offer a variety of oils and flavoured vinegars, I don't think they are quite at par with these... (Farm Boy has their own line of finer oils). It being summer right now, The Unrefined Olive has berry-flavoured olive oils - strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, and maybe others. I tried a clear one which was very pungent. I've started putting these on salads at home, as a dressing. And if you've ever been to finer Italian restaurants, they might offer bread dipping bowls with this type of flavoured oil and vinegar. The Unrefined Olive also offers a package of 4 small samples which would be ideal to give as a gift. While I was at it, I found humongous olives stuffed with feta and pickled in vermouth! There was also Canadian honey for sale. This is a great place to find hostess gifts. I will definitely be back.

The owner is really friendly, and helps you decide on what is best, based on the taste profile you are seeking. There are little steel cups that you can use to sample everything (except for the premium oils such as the truffle oils). I left with a Harissa olive oil, as the taste of the spicy peppers was prominent in the oil, but also had a delicious smoky taste. It would be amazing in pasta salads or drizzled on top of pizza; however, prices are quite steep, so I would use the oils sparingly! (For example, a 200ml of basil infused olive oil is $5.99 at La Bottega/Nicastro, whereas here it is $14.99...so definitely a splurge)! Overall, I would come here if feeling splurgy (or was more baller, haha), otherwise I would probably stick with olive oils from regular stores.

This was one of the most frustrating customer service experiences I've had…read more I purchased a package of frozen rice cakes (tteok) from this store some time ago. Since it was a frozen product, I only used part of it and later discovered mold on the remaining rice cakes. I took photos of the mold and brought the issue to the store's attention. Instead of receiving an apology, I was immediately questioned and asked for proof. After looking at the photos, The employee at the customer service desk told me to go back and bring the product from the freezer section so they could identify it and determine the refund amount. I left my shopping cart and went to find the product as requested. When I returned, I was suddenly told that I also needed to provide proof of purchase from my bank transaction history. This was never mentioned before. However, this was not a purchase I had made the day before. It had been some time, and I could not reasonably be expected to remember the exact date of purchase and search through my banking records on the spot. If that information was required, why wasn't I told at the beginning instead of being sent on a pointless trip across the store? What makes this even more frustrating is that I had stopped by the store shortly before picking up my child from daycare. I was in the middle of a large shopping trip and was about to pay for a cart full of groceries when I brought up the issue. Because of the back-and-forth, the poor communication, and the time wasted, I ended up running late for daycare pickup. Not once did anyone apologize for selling a moldy product. Not once did anyone acknowledge the inconvenience caused. Instead, I felt like I was being treated as if I needed to prove I wasn't lying. The amount of money involved was small, but the way this was handled was unacceptable. The complete lack of customer service, accountability, and respect for my time was shocking. I was so upset that I abandoned my shopping and walked out without purchasing anything. I would strongly encourage customers to carefully inspect packaged produce and frozen foods before purchasing. Based on this experience, I will never return to this store, and I would strongly advise others to shop elsewhere. Not worth it

Maybe a 3.5 star, if only I could…read more I really looked forward to Kardish opening up in Kanata, and I have been there 2-3 times now. It's a nice clean store and the staff is efficient and friendly, and they really know their stuff. Kardish offers a free rewards system that you have to sign up for - you get a card to tap with your purchase. I do love getting rewarded for my shopping! But I found out something after going to a different Kardish outlet: they don't all carry the same items! The other outlet had these really yummy Greek Yogurt pretzels (bite-sized). They're so good I went back to the Kanata outlet to get more! No such luck :-( The Kanata store doesn't carry them. Oh well; I will have to watch for them, maybe sneak on over to the other store to get more. Meanwhile the Kanata shop is reasonable and handy for your health food needs. Although they have stiff competition in this area (Natures Pantry I think it's called), so I hope they keep up the good work.

On Saturdays and Sundays, they have homemade Turkish food and the last time I went on a Sunday, they had this live Turkish Streetfood station for Cigkofte setup. (Its apparently really popular in Turkey!) The store also has a meat section with fresh lamb and goat. The butcher cuts it up however you want it and they are really helpful when it comes to making smaller orders etc. Now, things may get lost in translation here so just use pictures or be really descriptive. The last thing I gotta say is that you MUST MUST MUST MUST try their chocolate croissants. Just call before you go if this is what you crave because they get sold out FAST! Their Saturday and Sunday bakery offerings are very different from weekdays so its always a treasure hunt in the bakery section. Go get your Turkey on Kanata / Stittsville!

TL;DR/The Short Version: Ottawa's second T&T Supermarket…read more Smaller than the first, but still has lots of cool Asian products. The Long Version: This T&T Supermarket location is in Hazeldean Mall in Kanata. It's where the Laura's Your Independent Grocer used to be. It just opened at the end of October 2024. We went the beginning of November 2024 so it was still brand spanking new. I took my parents here to check it out and see how it compares with the other location on Hunt Club. Our consensus was this Kanata location is smaller with less selection than the original location. We were happy to visit and see what it's all about, but since the Hunt Club location is closer to us, we'll continue to go to that location instead. The bakery section at this Kanata location is much smaller, as is the prepared foods section. I also noticed that they use sesame seeds in a lot more of their sushi than the Hunt Club location. As someone who can't eat sesame seeds and can rarely buy prepackaged sushi, this made me sad. They have dim sum and Chinese BBQ and also an area to eat the food you purchase. It's good court style seating. I did notice their impressive selection of imported Lay's chips. Their selection was comparable to the other location in this regard. I doubt I will return unless I'm already in the area for another reason because it's far from my home and I rather go to the Hunt Club location, but I think it's great for Kanata residents. And it's breathing some much needed life into Hazeldean Mall. Lots of free parking in the mall parking lot. (200)

The inside of the store is clean, the lighting is good, there's a lot of parking & direct access by bus. The only negative I would give to this store is that the aisles are a bit on the smaller side, and I can see this getting really busy. I went on a Thursday, it wasn't too busy but I was still having to navigate around people and bumping into a few others. Also, if you are someone that likes making soups and stocks you can get chicken bones here for $1 per pound
