Not a bad view from any seat!! I LOVE how intimate this place feels and the presentation is fabulous. We saw A Christmas Carol and were blown away by its beautiful production. We sat in the very first row, but for future shows I think I would probably sit three or four rows back for a better overall view. I really enjoyed my experience. read more

The bathroom situation is pretty good based on the theater's capacity. As for the show, it was amazing! The sound was perfect, I could see everything on stage and really felt the energy of the cast. What a hidden gem at the Denver Performing Arts at The Wolf Theatre with "A Little Night Music"! It is Stephen Sondheim's musical adaptation of Ingmar Bergman's 1955 film, Smiles of a Summer Night. Joanne Ostrow wrote a great article in the DCPA's Applause on this Outstanding Play. She writes- it is set in 1900 Sweden, it remains a sharp commentary on romantic relationships-part witty rom-com, part melancholy sex farce, all framed in angst about the passage of time. The performance from all the cast members was top-notch-from acting, singing, dancing, everything! The costumes were superb and I liked the minimal set design. One act with Soara-Joye Ross as Desiree Armfeldt and Edward Staudenmayer as Fredrik Egerman singing a duet of "Send in the Clowns" was so captivating, beautiful and brought a tear to my eye. It was energetic, humorous, sad and everything in between throughout and it is a play I definitely want to have the pleasure of watching again. This is a must see, but hurry, it ends on the 8th of October 2023! read more

Great proscenium theatre at the DCPA. Hard to have a bad seat, even the back rows provide a good vantage point to enjoy the show. We've been season ticket holders for the play series for several years and haven't experienced a bad show. The talent and execution of a wide variety of works is outstanding. I'm not a big fan of mariachi music but I developed an appreciation of it after attending American Mariachi. The music was great and it is a touching story. Also appreciated the lobby display-learned about women in mariachi. Love the diverse productions offered by Denver Center Theater Company. The Stage Theater is a perfect size-no bad seats, comfortable, don't have to crane your neck over people sitting in front of you. A parking garage right there by the Theatre, all looking very festive. The seating inside was great, comfortable seating and a great atmosphere. I would have to agree with other reviewers that there is really not a bad seat in the house. This is basically a 1/2 theater in the round set up. The arc of seats is approximately 170 degrees. Also, the seats are steeply pitched, so there are no issues about someone's head being in your sight-line. The chairs are more comfortable than at the Buell, but not appreciably larger in size. Sound and lighting are both quite good. I thought it was a bit warm in the theater (which probably means many of the women were somewhat chilly). I came here to see The Three Musketeers, and it worked really well in this venue. read more

This place is really nice and i do appreciate the fancy bathrooms but i have a few things in particular that i need to address. First of all i DO NOT appreciate the lack of hot chocolate, don't advertise it if you don't have it. Also customers should be able to enjoy their refreshments inside the theater, i'm not going to pay for a 10$ drink just to only be able to drink it for 5 minutes, NOT ACCEPTABLE. I saw A Christmas Carol here this year and I was surprised that they could put such an exciting and unique spin on a classic like that. Of the smaller venues in the DCPA, this is my absolute favorite. The seating, which forms a half circle around the stage, is incredibly comfortable and well arranged. From the bottom up: there are 5-7 rows of seats, an aisle, and then another ten or so rows. I really don't think there's a bad seat in the house. As for the shows themselves - well, the DCPA delivers. Most recently I went to see The Taming of the Shrew, which I was on the fence about, but I ended up really enjoying it. The DCPA took a very interesting, modernized look at the misogyny that runs rampant in this piece by Shakespeare. The producers are definitely talented, and manage to make works that are hundreds of years old relevant today. read more

Today I brought my mom to see Sense and Sensibility in its world premiere. I've not been to this theater before and it is gorgeous! When we got to our seats I realized that I had unknowingly purchased tickets that were in the center, second row. The stage is more intimate than the website had indicated and we were both thrilled with the location. The theater itself is more intimate which I love and the seats were all located well. As for the musical itself, my mom is a devout Austen fan. So devout that when I asked her if she wanted to go, she told me "no" because nobody ever does justice to Jane Austen. When I told her I would pay for everything and she could see if for "free," she dubiously accepted the invitation. We walked away from the musical both very happy with what we saw. Whoever designed the costumes did an EXCELLENT job. The fabric was gorgeous and played a lovely role in the musical. Also impressive were the stage sets themselves. Four spaces with hydraulic lifts would bring cast members and sets up and down onto the main stage. It was flawless and a great way to show many different "areas" that the musical happened in. And then there were the wonderful performances, singing and orchestra. Although I am not a devout fan of Austen, I do know enough about her characters to know that they were played out today with love, respect and a touch of humor. I was not ready to have the play end and am hoping to see more performances in this space. read more

Oooh, the seats in this theater are coooooozzzzzy. That's a drawn out version of cozy in case you are confused. I recently had the pleasure of seeing the Johnny Cash musical here and not only enjoyed the show, but also enjoyed my seats. The theater's stage is a circle at the bottom of a semi-circle of red, cushy seats so there doesn't appear to be a bad seat in the house. Plus, it's very intimate which helps with the seating situation. The shows here are more affordable than some of the bigger theaters in the DCPA, but the quality is still just as fantastic. I definitely recommend checking out the season here and perhaps taking a special someone or just a good friend for a night on the town. read more

A great friend took me to see To Kill A Mockingbird at this theatre on Thursday night. What a great small theatre! It was big enough that up to 778 people could enjoy an interesting show on their thrust stage... sitting in the plush red chairs and feeling like a part of the action. The benefit to this stage for this particular performance, is that it meant that performers could enter and exit as if into the audience. The Stage Theatre is located within the Denver Performing Arts Complex, which is apparently referred to as "The Plex". Ten performance spaces are housed within this complex. Upon entrance into the complex, take a look up to see the impressive 80ft glass roof. If you live in Denver, and have never been to the complex to see a show, my advice is to check one out. It will be worth your time, and you will have a reason to check out this fantastic complex. Happy Show Watching read more

I was for sure I reviewed this jem of a theater, shame on me. I've seen several productions here and honestly prefer it over it's big brother, The Buell. It's a much more intimate venue. The seating is perfect. The big red chairs are very comfy. You aren't all smushed in next to your neighbor. There is adequate leg room as well. There is not a bad seat in the house. The entire stage is fully visible from anywhere you sit, be it on the sides, up front, in the center, or the farthest seat in the back. The productions put on here are great. I feel like I am looking in on something very special when I attend a show here. The regulars in the shows are wonderful at their craft. The Christmas Carol is my favorite. It's becoming a Christmas tradition. read more

I love seeing shows at the Stage. This medium size theatre is a half circle design and there isn't a bad seat in the joint. Up front, up high or even off to the side, your gonna get a great shot of the action. The stage actually reaches out in several sections into the audience and often has the actors almost next to you performing. This really adds to the experience. The seats are comfy, they keep the theatre at a comfy temp and it generally is pretty easy to get in and out. All good in my book! read more

I recently went to a great Yelp event at the Stage Theatre to see Traces - a show with several incredibly strong performers doing things that humans were not meant to do! I mean, they climb poles like a monkey, roll around in metal hula-hoops, and jump from a tall structure - perform multiple flips - and land on their fellow performers shoulders! Thing Cirque du Soleil without weird music and weird performers. First, the Stage theater is a great size and there really isn't a bad seat in the house. It is exactly what I would expect from a 'upscale' Denver theater. As for the show - it was very entertaining with rarely a dull moment. That being said, they included some 'interpretive dance' in between the feats of strength and acrobatics. I could have gone without that - but otherwise, a strong recommendation for a nice date night. read more

A nice enough theater. Seats elevated from one row to the next, so there's absolutely no issue with obstructed views due to sitting behind tall people. Things that need fixing: Grossly inadequate bathroom situation. One of the two bathrooms had just three stalls for women and the other one was probably similar. Huge lines. Intermission way way too short -- not enough time to *either* use the bathroom *or* get something at the bar, let alone both. Not sure if this is consistent or if it's show-specific. There's an info desk up front. I approached one of the employees there to get some direction as to which door was the right one for our seats. There were long lines at a few of the doors, and I didn't want to wait in the wrong one only to be shuttled elsewhere. The gal at the desk wouldn't even look at my tickets to help point me in the right direction. She told me to wait in line at one of the doors and I would be pointed in the right direction. BOO. Very rude and unnecessary. The show we saw, "The Secret Garden", was a pretty mediocre production. Several singers were pitchy, as were the French horns. The acting was very flat from the male lead (Archibald) though he was a good singer. The acting from the female lead (Mary) was inexcusably overdone. She is a child and the director should have steered her better. She was a very solid singer, though. Special snaps to those who played Dickon and especially Martha -- she killed it in her one solo in the second act! It was a kind of odd production overall, very very very ghoulish compared to what I've seen before, with constant traipsing on stage of the deceased characters to act as a sort of chorus. read more

This is by far my favorite theatre to go see a show here at DCPA. I love the 360 degree staging area, the chairs are the perfect distance apart and set at the right height to see from any point in the theatre. Most recently my son and I went to go see Jackie and Me, which was a wonderful story about a young boy who uses baseball cards to travel back in time for a history project about Jackie Robinson. The Christmas Carol was such a wonderful holiday activity for myself, my husband, and another couple to enjoy together. The actor who played Scrooge was a very strong actor with great timing and humor. We also loved the actress who played Mrs. Fezziwig - she had great facial expressions and dance moves and made us all laugh. There is a fair amount of smoke that is used in the show, so we were grateful to be on the upper tier, although it still spread up to that level, just fyi if you are sensitive to that. It was very special when the actors walk down through the theatre during the second half and snow begins to fall right before our seats - very magical! The costumes are gorgeous and the children that were in the play all did a fabulous job. Don't hesitate to buy these tickets for you and your family to enjoy this Christmas season! read more

I was so surprised by the setup of this little theater! The stage juts out right into the audience. We sat first-row for a performance of Sense and Sensibility the Musical. The actors were so close we could almost reach out and touch them! The acoustics were good and the seats were comfy. Definitely an enjoyable experience! read more

My only complaint is the room between rows. I'm a normal 6' tall but my knees are killing me sometimes after a long performance. Thank god for intermissions. read more

I came to see DCPA's Sweeney Todd production at the Stage Theatre and it was great.
