Her tongue hangs out of the side of her mouth..so cute. Miss Sarah Mike's mom invited me for holiday dinners that she makes on a roped off section of this gigantic brick building..how sweet she is such a nice southern bell. The building used to be a feed store. The interior is amazing with cedar plank vaulted ceilings and cedar floors. I called ahead of time to make sure they were open and told Michael I was a MCM (mid century modern) enthusiast. He assured me there were a few mcm pieces I just had to see. I fell in love with the Herman Miller fiberglass chairs. They are signed chairs which to me increases their value and authenticity. They aren't for everyone BUT if you are a true mid century lover these chairs are the bomb!!!! I walked from section to section admiring antiques and some really gorgeous spiny coral necklaces as well as grandfather chiming clocks and beautiful China sets and velvet antique chairs and oriental rugs. If you know me one thing is I can not pass up an antique store. I've been antiquing since the 80s. If you are ever in the area make sure to pop in and tell them Nancy from florida sent you. I am sure they will treat you like family as they did me. We always find something(s) we need to have. After 11 am, make your way to the basement and behold the welcoming nostalgic setting of the cafe. I had the quiche and salad with house made dressing ... my wife had the BLT with pimento cheese and a great sour cream potato salad. We brought an amazing slice of chocolate cake home for our daughter ... scrumptious! Oh, and it's a bottle/can restaurant so you can have your personal preference of the soda you like. I found a few items- but my big find was a large crock- I am thinking it was early 1900's- but I had never seen one with a grip handle on one side and a loop "finger" handle on the other. It also had a wonderful blue stripe around the shoulders of the pot. I snagged it as a gift for a fellow potter who is building a new studio and gallery and wants a museum portion representative of the area and the generational potters in the region. Yes- I am a big ole weirdo squatting down to turn giant pots over to look for makers marks or signatures. Turning it around checking all over for any identifying marks. 1800's and 1900's American pottery was largely unsigned, which makes it extremely difficult to track heritage pieces. Anyway- I gave said crock to my friend and she was so delighted! I believe the coffee shop has a separate listing- but that is also a wonderful perk to this shop- coffee and treats on site! And yes, you can take your coffee around the antique shop! Thank you to the lady who carried that huge pot up to the front for me!
