Upon arriving at her office the first time, I was presented with their financial policy, which lists a bunch of non-insurable charges, such as a charge to speak to Dr. Maciulla over the phone if you have a request or fees for paper filing. This certainly raised an eyebrow, but hey, I was already in the office, awaiting my appointment. She was pretty chatty and friendly at first. She even went on to tell me the 411 about all her children and how one of them almost died because of a poor doctoral diagnosis. And my physical exam was relatively pleasant. However, her and her office became a total nightmare to deal with after a mixup with prescription. Not knowing that there was a generic version released for a medication I needed, I simply told her the name of the medicine for the prescription. Upon arriving at CVS, I was given a generic because the prescription didn't say Brand-only. I had called her office to correct this which they did for the onsite pharmacy. However, when I asked them to do the same for the mail-order prescription since she wrote 2 prescriptions for me that time, they became the most difficult people to work with. In fact, she yelled at me over the phone, telling me how I was wasting her time and that it is my responsibility to tell her upfront if I preferred branded despite my having explained that I didn't know a generic was available. She refused to write me another prescription with charging me $10 despite knowing that it was a honest mistake by both parties. So, lesson learned is to avoid these bloodsucking money-hungry doctors. You want a doctor that's going to be there for you when you need them rather than being all self-centered.

I was referred to her almost halfway through my twin pregnancy and am beyond thankful that I landed in her care. She is compassionate, extremely knowledgeable, and goes above and beyond. I had some issues pop up at the end of my pregnancy and was very nervous about delivery- she made me feel calm and ensured she was the one who was there to deliver them despite having personal family plans, which I cannot thank her enough for. Our delivery went smoothly and although I live a bit away from their office, will continue to see her for routine visits.

I feel like I am finally fitting into a group that is positive for me, especially during moments when I've felt close to my lowest throughout the last several years. Every Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m., we exercise as a group -- we train, we laugh, and I am genuinely impressed to see Dr. Cothran enthusiastically performing the moves right alongside us. In late spring, Dr. Cothran and Coach Dulany hosted a community hike, which was such a highlight that I later took my family back to experience the same trail. The Meno Start program allows for two nights a week of 1:1 training with Coach Dulany, an amazing personal trainer and person. Thanks to his guidance, I performed better on my Navy Physical Readiness Test just a couple of days ago. The times available to meet with Coach are accommodating, and the beautiful place we work out has great scenery and excellent equipment. The suite is tastefully decorated. Dr. Cothran has an examination room, and a comfortable lounge for my 12‑year‑old who sometimes needs to accompany me to workout sessions. The women I've met are personable, kind, and warm. Women are busy at this stage of life, and we certainly can't afford to "Pause." Our careers, hobbies, and family situations are going to continue, and therefore I had to "Start" feeling better during this milestone. This community understands that. I also find the package -- personal training, access to an OBGYN, the location, and the community -- to be refreshing, convenient, and affordable. Dr. Cothran is passionate about women's health, and Coach Dulany values fitness, nutrition, and quality of life. I am really thankful, and I never cease to feel surprisingly blessed to be a part of the Meno Start Community. I am growing confidence and strengthening my body simultaneously. I was disappointed with my experience at Anna Health Gynecology & Obstetrics in Falls Church,…read moreparticularly with the lack of transparency around pricing, insurance coverage, and lab procedures. Before ordering tests, I expected the office to clearly explain what was being ordered, which laboratory would be used, whether the testing was likely to be covered by insurance, and what the potential out-of-pocket cost could be. Instead, I felt there was very little pricing transparency, leaving the patient to discover possible coverage or billing issues afterward. I was also frustrated by the handling of bloodwork. The office scheduled my appointment for 3:00 PM, but I later learned that their cutoff for blood draws was 2:45 PM. In my view, an office that schedules and performs these procedures should know its own laboratory cutoff and should not schedule a patient for a time when the required bloodwork can no longer be completed. There also appeared to be insufficient staff available to perform the blood draw, and the overall process felt poorly coordinated. For an OB/GYN practice where lab work is a routine and important part of patient care, I expected the staff to be much more knowledgeable about their own procedures, scheduling requirements, and billing process. My biggest concerns are the lack of pricing transparency, inadequate communication about insurance coverage, and poor coordination between appointment scheduling and laboratory services. Patients should be given clear information before tests are ordered so they can make informed decisions and avoid unnecessary appointments or unexpected bills.

I chose the practice because of Dr. Bannon's reputation, however, she wasn't taking new patients when I registered. I met with Dr. Hennessy and really liked her. Each time I went in for a check-up I saw her, and received an ultrasound to confirm that all was well with the pregnancy. Their ultrasound equipment isn't very state of the art, but it's enough to see baby and that it is growing as it should. Dr. Hennessy tends to speak rather fast, which at times can come across as dismissive or that she's trying to rush through the appointment. I recently had it brought to my attention that I can tend to speak this way at work, which made me realize that it's just her manner of speaking and not that she's actually trying to push you out the door. As a first time mother I was rather neurotic and I was never made to feel that I was pestering them with ridiculous questions. Dr. Hennessy was very open to what I wanted (be that a scheduled c-section or a natural birth from start to finish) and didn't make me feel as if one was right or wrong. My mother-in-law had a previous traumatic experience with pregnancy loss. Dr. Hennessy was great with giving us things we could tell her to put her at ease and at one point letting her come back to see an ultrasound to reassure her that everything really was OK with this pregnancy. In the end, due to timing, Dr. Hennessy didn't deliver my baby, another doctor at the practice did. He was fantastic, friendly and made me feel as at ease as he could, considering that I wound up with an emergency c-section (my son was rather large). The after care I received was attentive, and excellent. Dr. Armstrong saw me the day after my delivery and explained to me, in detail, the pros and cons of circumcision as well as the after care I would need (he also explained this to my family, which was nice). So long as I'm in the area Dr. Hennessy will be my OB/GYN. I am deducting a star for the following reasons (really, not major). - The offices are rather small and cramped. It's hard to get around the hallways and the lab room. The rooms also leave a bit to be desired in terms of facilities and decor (looks like they haven't been updated since 1986). - Depending on who you get, the lab staff can be a bit cranky. There are a few who are just stellar, friendly, helpful, but there are a few who are grumpy and make you feel like you're an annoyance just by virtue of being there.

She is an experienced practitioner, and she is also up to date on the latest conditions, procedures, and research findings. The office is very clean, well-organized, and Kaiser's electronic health records systems means there never is confusion over your medical history, allergies, or medications. Dr. Banulis practices with Kaiser Permanente HMO, in the West End medical center. This means that to see her, you must be a Kaiser HMO member. She is fantastic.
