I'll never forget the first time my husband and I met with Dr. Sharara. Upon our arrival, he already knew everything there was to know about my journey. He truly did his homework! My previous clinic had sent over my medical records and he found so many "errors" before examining me. I'll never forget him asking if I was aware that I had a uterine septum. My previous clinic noted in my chart that I had one, but failed to mention that to me. Dr. Sharara immediately noticed it when looking at my ultrasounds. I knew then, I was in the right place. It was Dr. Sharara that made me realize that I needed to "do better by myself". Meaning, I needed to treat my body and health much better than what I was. I struggled with weight when my husband and I first started this infertility journey. I took all of my stress of trying to get pregnant, to eating unhealthy foods. By following his diet plan, I was able to lose 75 pounds over the course of one year. Weight was not my only issue, but it was certainly an important one. If it wasn't for Dr. Sharara, I would still to this day, not be taking care of myself. My previous clinic never mentioned my diet or health. I was deemed completely healthy and normal. Because I was young and naive, I trusted what these doctors said and that was a mistake on my part. Luckily, we found VCRM! Dr. Sharara set me straight and told me up front on day one consultation, that I had to do better if I wanted this to work! I may have left in tears that day, but it was exactly what I needed to hear and he sure was right! When I meet people who are also undergoing fertility treatment, I always ask what tests they ran or what type of blood work they had done. Through my experience at other clinics, they did very minimal testing and were eager to start IVF right away. Dr. Sharara is the opposite! If he can prevent you from doing IVf, he will. He is not in this to make money like other "infertility factories". His main goal is to figure out why you can't get pregnant and fix that problem so you can have a family. If then you are unable to conceive, he will recommend fertility treatments tailored to your needs. He understands that it's not a set protocol for everyone. He creates a plan based solely on your needs and issues. If he can get you pregnant with out fertility treatments like IVF, he will exhaust all those options first. He gets down to the root cause of your issues, unlike other clinics who just want to make a dollar. After just a couple appointments with VCRM, I was diagnosed with PCOS, endometriosis, uterine septum, and a blood clotting disorder. My previous clinics failed to test for these things and we waisted a lot of money there. By improving my health and correcting my issues, my husband and I were able to get pregnant on our own. Unfortunately, we did lose the baby very early on. The silver lining during this tragic time was that we were originally told we would never be able to conceive on our own. Just by changing my lifestyle and diet, that was deemed false. My husband and I did continue on to IVF, due to some male factor issues. But under Dr. Sharara's guidance, my husbands sperm count did increase. As of September 21st, 2024, I am a mom to a set of beautiful boy/girl twins all thanks to Dr. Sharara. He made it possible for us to finally have our own family and we are forever grateful for his work and team of nurses! Be prepared to get healthy and don't take it personally. Dr. Sharara wants you to be the "best possible version of yourself" so diet and exercise are very important to him. Dr. Sharara never made me feel like I was just a number. He truly treats his patients as if they are his own family. I was always greeted with a smile and left with a hug. His clinic and staff are just as welcoming and compassionate as he is. He is a very personable and knowledgeable doctor on male and female infertility. I never once felt like I was rushed in and out, unlike other clinics that I have been with in the past. Everyone at VCRM is approachable and communicative. It was very important for my husband and I to feel comfortable asking questions and discussing our concerns. As previous clinics we attended lacked in this department. Dr. Sharara listens and explains things clearly. This made a challenging process seem more manageable. He did an exceptional job providing information in a way that we understood. I cant recommend VCRM enough! This clinic is the best of the best! You won't leave disappointed or confused. The nursing staff and receptionist are also just as compassionate and caring as he is!

Dr. Owen was truly amazing in every way. She took the time to genuinely listen and understand what we needed. She has such a caring heart and always made me feel like I was her most important patient. She carefully analyzed every result and personally called with detailed explanations, which meant so much during such an emotional process. I always felt like I was in the very best hands. Under her care, we had two successful egg retrievals, and on our first transfer, we got pregnant. We are beyond grateful -- there really aren't enough words to express how thankful we are. That said, the billing department needs significant improvement. Communication was very difficult -- phone calls often went unanswered with no callbacks, and responses were typically limited to once per day. Payments were missed on their end, so I strongly recommend tracking everything carefully. Bills were also not sent promptly. Overall, while the administrative side was frustrating, Dr. Owen made all the difference in our journey, and for that we will always be thankful.

CCRM NoVa has truly skilled doctors, but its operations team only adds to everything a woman loses in this already-trying process. It's the day after Thanksgiving, and I'm in a waiting room with 25 other women. Waiting. For hours. We each had an appointment time, which was meaningless. We lost this pseudo-holiday to drive here and wait. I'll also note, unlike any other fertility clinic I've been to, CCRM NoVa allows children in the waiting room, which to some is another marker of insensitivity. Expect competent doctors, but also expect this practice to make your already stressful experience more stressful and frustrating.

My Request for a Female Physician Was Not Honored + Operating Room Experience…read more It's important to share my experience so other women--especially those with modesty/dignity requests--can make an informed decision. Before beginning IVF treatment, I specifically requested that only female physicians be involved in my care due to my needs for modesty and dignity. This was an important condition for me moving forward with treatment. On the morning of my egg retrieval, only minutes before my procedure, I learned that my physician would be male. I immediately reminded him, in front of my husband, that I had requested only female doctors. His response was that Shady Grove Fertility only had him available that day and they couldn't simply call in a female physician. This was shocking to hear moments before my procedure. By that point I had already invested thousands of dollars, weeks of hormone injections, countless appointments, and tremendous emotional energy into this IVF cycle. Being in my 40s, with my husband deploying soon, I felt I had no realistic option but to proceed. Had I known beforehand that SGF could not accommodate my request, I would have chosen a different fertility clinic from the beginning. Unfortunately, what occurred in the operating room compounded my distress. After I got onto the procedure table and placed my body in position, I was completely uncovered from the waist down while the physician was already in the room. Feeling extremely vulnerable, I instinctively tried to cover myself, but I was repeatedly instructed to move my hands to my sides. Only afterward, from across the room, was a drape brought over to cover me. I understand that some exposure is unavoidable during an egg retrieval. In fact, I previously underwent the same procedure at Shady Grove Fertility with a female physician. During that retrieval, any necessary exposure was incredibly brief, and I was covered promptly to preserve my privacy and dignity. This experience, however, was markedly different. This time, I remained uncovered after being positioned on the table, despite my attempts to cover myself, and despite having specifically requested a female physician beforehand. I do not understand why a drape could not have been placed immediately before or as I was positioned. The experience left me feeling humiliated, emotionally distressed, and that my dignity had not been respected. I want to emphasize that the nurses themselves were kind. My concern is with the clinic's communication, its inability to accommodate a request that had been made in advance, and the way my privacy and dignity were handled during one of the most vulnerable moments of my life. A formal complaint will be filed, because this is unacceptable, and no other woman with such needs should ever experience this.

My obgyn gave me a referral for this office towards end of December. I called today to make an appointment and the woman who answered the phone gave me a really hard time. She stated " well I don't know why but you chose to wait almost a month to make an appointment.". What she didn't know was that I tested positive for Covid the day after I received this referral and was home sick the last two weeks of December and then we had new years. This was the soonest I was able to schedule an appointment. She then told me I would be lucky to get an appointment anytime soon. After placing me on a brief hold, she told me there was availability at their fair oaks office at the end of January. I told her I would take that appointment and then I asked her what would be taking place at this appointment and she responded by telling me we were doing a genetic screening. At this point I realized I was speaking to someone who had no idea what they were talking about lol. My referral was for an ultrasound because my regular obgyn doesn't have as high of a tech ultrasound machine as this office. I asked her if this visit would include an ultrasound and she said no it's not an ultrasound it's a sonogram LOL. She also told me she's not a medical professional and cannot tell me what this visit will entail. Please if you work for this office, educate this woman. She has no idea what she's talking about. I hope the staff at the fair oaks office are much more professional.
