During that call, I was told there was a 4-week introductory program for $149, with classes on Mondays and Wednesdays at 8:00 PM. I was also told that after the introductory period, membership would be $257 per month, with a discounted rate available if I signed up early. Based on that information, I was excited to get started. I confirmed my email, completed the registration process, signed the waiver, and booked what was advertised on the website as a free trial. When I arrived for class, I was informed that free trials were no longer offered and that the $149 introductory program was no longer available. This was surprising given that only about 10 days had passed since I had called to confirm everything. I asked whether I could simply pay for a drop-in fundamentals class since I was already there and on time, but I was told that drop-ins were only available to students with prior experience. As a brand-new student, my only option was to sign up for the full $257 monthly membership. That was the most frustrating part. The lower-cost introductory option was gone, the free trial was gone, and I wasn't allowed to pay for a single class to see if the gym was a good fit. Instead, the only option available was to commit to a full month for $257 without ever having taken a class there. That's a significant commitment for someone trying a new gym for the first time. It's unfortunate because the facility seems to have a great community and many satisfied members. However, having the terms change so quickly after I confirmed them, combined with having no way to try a class before committing to a full membership, left me with a very negative first impression.

Starting BJJ can feel intimidating, but they've created a safe and supportive environment that makes it much easier to stay consistent. That's important for a sport like this where progress takes time. What initially drew me in was Cobrinha's philosophy, and it absolutely lives up to the reputation. I'd encourage anyone to learn about it directly from him. I've been meaning to write this for a while, but I'm proud to be a member here now. This is a great place to start your BJJ journey.

We worked some good half-guard sweeps and principles and did some fun positional sparring to put the skills to practice. Great welcoming culture with diverse skill ranges and backgrounds. The facilities were super nice, the mats were clean and in great shape (despite the street construction which necessitated the front of the building be boarded up, so you may need to enter through the back). And it was nice to have showers to clean up before my 4 hour drive back home. Bonus for great location with lots of good post-training food options to get protein and carbs! Would happily recommend this to anyone visiting LA, or looking for a new place to train in the Glendale neighborhood! Great family feel. Will visit again for sure!

But we spent alittle over $300 there on everything! There is a $35 or $45 entrance fee depending on when you come. It's just to come inside the lagoon. If you want the obstacle course it's an additional $10 per person for 55 mins (super short). If you want to kayak, use the aqua bike or use the paddleboard it's an additional $10 per equipment/item. There is a kiddie area for small and young children. They DO NOT allow outside food or drinks except water! There is a small shop that sells misc. items, snacks & drinks (overpriced). They also had a foodtruck inside that was expensive and the meals didn't come with drinks. They do have plenty of staff and lifeguards there. The entrance fee should of been $15-20. The obstacle course atleast 90-120 mins instead of the 55 mins. Wish the foodtruck came with drinks and was a bigger portion.

The activities are fantastic: well planned, age appropriate, engaging, and fun. The natural setting is also beautiful and feels especially important these days. My boys came home with confidence, stories, friendships, and summer memories they will cherish forever. And the camp spirit is real. I've certain found more members using the facilities but also discovered quite a bit of new programmings like the Pilates classes, mahjong club, live jazz performances and movie nights. I was not really sure about the change at the beginning but I am now fully embracing the new LAAC. Many of the staff and members have been here for a long time and it is nice to be greeted by familiar faces when coming to the club. The restaurants are pretty decent. Love to top my salad with a nice piece of salmon after workout at the Famous Players or have a tasty glass of scotch while enjoying the live jazz performance at the Invention. The sports bar Duke's has great happy hours and fun monthly evening karaoke or chess club meetings. The only thing I complain about is the need for shock absorbance and insulation of the noise or moving the weight station. The northwest corner of the Famous Players near Olive Street shakes every time the weightlifters drop their weights, which is very annoying and distracting for the diners. Feel like the ceiling or floor is going to drop out. No joke. For now, I would sit as far away from the northwest corner as I possibly can. But hope the club would look into it. I have been trying to sign up for the monthly wine tasting but they are always full. Maybe consider having the event more frequently or scale up? Regardless, I am still exploring all the new offerings at the club and really pleased with the Pilates classes and the live music performances. Although I am apprehensive when I first see the co-working space and the influx of new members, I now appreciate the additional events and classes that come with the new members and hope the club continues to do well and do better as I am here to stay.

As usual, water in the room costs money, and there are a few other products with hidden price tags in the room, too. Surprisingly, toothbrush and toothpaste was not provided. The water for showering also doesn't get too hot. In terms of the athletic space, the machines were very easy to access. There was never a wait even on weekend afternoons. The lap pool was my favorite part - clean and calm. There was some miscommunication between the lobby and the store, as one said there is no reservation system but there in fact was. But even when told all the lanes were fully reserved, more than half weren't in use. Parking is a bit of a hassle; for non-members it's definitely not worth it. At the time of visit, the parking machine wasn't working. There are also sperate elevators for parking vs the athletic club / hotel area which was a little confusing. The stair numbers also didn't coordinate the best with actual level.

This is the "Brandon Special" by Esther, not on the menu. I don't know what's in it but it's delish.

When you arrive at Won Brazilian Jiu Jitsu you will notice that parking is not an issue. There are plenty of spaces available and walking to the front door is only a couple steps away. I liked that everything is very sanitary and organized, from the mat, to the changing room and shower. There is no musty smell. Won is very kind and extremely knowledgeable at his craft. No doubt wether you are a beginner or a seasoned veteran in the art of Jiu Jitsu, Won will help you hone your skills down to the smallest details. Won is also very encouraging to beginners who want to roll with a partner. He will watch you closely to make sure you are safe and having fun. I've been coming to their open mats on Saturdays and my experience there has been extremely positive. I found the gym through Instagram before they opened and hoped they would have open mat, and luckily they do! Professor Won has been welcoming (as well as everyone) and the gym itself is nice, clean, and friendly. There's a parking lot as well, so that's a plus if you're driving. It starts with a quick warm-up, followed by learning a skill. Coaches will demo each move a few times and show you variations. You take turns drilling with your partner while the coaches will keep an eye out for questions or if someone is having trouble. The last 20 mins or so will be spent live rolling with different people on the mat. I also went to quite a few of the Friday workouts. The workout is mainly bodyweight/HIIT exercises that are timed. What I like about these is you can push yourself as hard as you want. If something is easier for you, do more or go faster. Not gonna lie, these classes kicked my ass. Sometimes I dreaded going to these but I never regret going. Overall, a great place to learn any form of martial art and get fit. Shout out to all the coaches who trained and pushed me!

The adult classes they have are Brazilian jiu jitsu (in the gi), and no-gi jiu jitsu, striking which ranges from boxing to kickboxing and muay thai, wrestling, MMA, escrima (stick fighting), and cardio conditioning classes. They also have kids classes, which you can find out about on their website. The monthly membership fee is a pretty good deal in my opinion. It's not uncommon for other gyms to have separate monthly fees for different disciplines, which quickly make the cost unaffordable for the average person. At Fight Science it's one price whether you want to pick a single discipline or train them all. You can do a free trail week if you're interested in checking it out. They can also loan you a gi if you want to try BJJ before committing to buying your own gear.

I didn't just attend the jiu-jitsu class but went to yoga, judo and even the HIIT class. The only class I didn't take was their Muay Thai class, not because there wasn't an opportunity to but I wanted to focus on grappling. When I started they had just moved into their current space-they moved so there could be an outdoor space for classes during COVID and even after moving indoors after restrictions lifted they continually sought to improve the experience for their members. Even after I stopped being a dues paying member I was allowed to drop-in for free and still remembered and greeted fondly.

Came back on a weekday and stayed for training... he was barely involved in training that day. I understand how someone might think he is rude but I wouldn't go that far, really he just comes off as checked-out and not interested in his gym / business. The session is about 1/3rd combat sport related. The other 2/3rds is light cardio drills you can do in your own home. The other attendees are more willing to help and with that I would say this place serves more of a sparring club than a serious training gym.

First my background: I've trained Muay Thai for two years (first time was in April of 2022). I've trained at 7 gyms: FLMT (Florida Muay Thai , OC MT, Team Oyama, Classic Fight Team, Rising Suns Thai Boxing, NELA Combat Fitness, and Boxing Works. My home gym for the last year was Boxing Works under the instruction of Coach Bryan Popejoy, where I trained 3-4 days a week and did one on ones once a week for about 3 month. I would've stayed there however I recently moved to Northeast LA (Highland Park) and the drive to Torrence for BW was too much (about an hour to an hour and a half drive there and 40 minutes on the way home). Whereas the Yard is a 6-minute drive from me with ample sessions. Second, class style: Classes are Monday through Friday: 8-9:30, 10-11:30, 4-5:30, and 6-7:30pm and then two sparring classes on Saturday from 9-10:30 and 11-12:30. As far as I'm aware, Yoshi teaches each class and he does an excellent job. At other gyms, I feel much more advanced then I do at the Yard. Lots of basic bad habits that I got into are getting fine-tuned and corrected. A typical class is organized in four parts: (1) Cardio: A five minute round of jump ropes and then a 30 minute cardio session where we jog, sprint, do knees, teep across the mats. (2) Bagwork We then do several rounds of shadow boxing where Yoshi will make small adjustments to our form. From there, we all go on the heavy bags and practice whatever we want to work on for several rounds while Yoshi works one on one with us on pad/mitwork. This is where I think the Yard shines. If you go to a class with few students, you are essentially getting a free one on one. When you're not working one on one with Yoshi, you are working the bag. (3): Drills/Sparring From there, we work on a specific technique through partner drills and then light technical sparring. Yoshi is very attentive as he goes around and makes adjustments and suggestions. On Fridays the technique is clinch focused; which is really great. Many gyms in Southern California lack emphasis on the clinch. (4): Burnout/core work: We end with 3 minutes of ab/core work and then a minute plank. Sometimes we will burnout with skip knees on the bag. Overall: An excellent choice. I can't speak to how it would be for a beginner, as I came with two-years of experience. I imagine it would be a great place to start. Potential cons: I do not see people doing drills on thai pads (where one partner holds pads and the other hits). Typically, a Muay Thai class is 1 hour. At the Yard, it is 1.5 hours. Which means its a little more demanding. At this point, I cannot train every day even if my schedule allowed it because my body and cardio is just too shot. I imagine with time, that'll change.

Literally…read morebrings my mind back to peace when I'm there, coaches always provide positive energy needed, great playlists and challenging workouts. Sweat classes are my favorite but recently started going to S&C for some toning and am really enjoying both. Also, do privates with Lolo and there is no one better, never thought I'd be able to box and even be somewhat ok at it but his expertise has made all the difference!! Really, really great people who welcome you in, there's no need to feel intimidated there, it's just positive energy! Five out of five, couldn't recommend this gym more!!!!
