What I like best about the park are the mature trees that provide lots of shade. Some of the trees are over 400 years old. There is a huge colorful playground with climbing structures, swings and slides. The base is a mix of mulch and soft matting. Benches line the area for parents to sit and watch kids . (The equipment could use a good cleaning from the trees.) There are two ball diamonds with bleachers within the park. A beautiful stream that meanders through the park attracts fisherman. Tree-covered picnic areas are scattered along the creek. The Vermont Covered Bridge spans the creek and is open to pedestrian traffic. There are restroom facilities near the playground. There are several parking areas throughout the park and you can drive along the creek. Highland Park is a great place to bring the family.

There is parking right next to these attractions and easy access for those who need it. They were both behind glass so the glare made it hard to see both, but they were amusing. Right next to the display was a playground suitable for all ages. The slide is a bit high, and it seemed old, but in good condition. There are also covered picnic tables in the area. Down the ways a bit in the park is a red covered bridge that was fun to walk through and take some photos with. Lastly, there is a large pavilion stage area what was having an orchestra concert, free to attend, and the audience was partially shaded with some picnic tables in the back as well.

The corec used to have a family locker room. The name of the family locker room has been changed. It is a small change, but indicative of the overall policies changing. In addition, the pool hours changed to be completely unusable for families. I used to give my son swim lessons at the co-rec, pools, but now, he cannot go because the pools are open at such weird times. Moreover, the pool workers are no longer friendly to families. When my son was 4, they let me take him in the hot tub for up to 5 minutes. It was a nice treat for my son after he did swim lessons. At 5 years old, they said he could stay for up to 15 minutes. I never let him go above 8 or 9 minutes out of caution. I was always with him. The last time I went to the co-rec, my son was 5 this fall, we got in the hot tub like normal. We were told to leave the hot tub because kids under 15 are not allowed. I pointed to THEIR SIGN hanging up that says 5 and up. They said, "I'm sorry that policy is changing. We are no longer allowing kids in the hot tubs." I said that we would stop going in the hot tub out when the sign and the website changed. Then I had 10 lifeguards escort us out of the pool area. My son was not loud or splashing or rambunctious in the hot tub. He was chilling and calm. Yet they insisted the new policy was no children at all. Shortly thereafter, they changed the pool schedule so families cannot use any of the pools. By changing the pool schedule to be unfriendly to families, they also make it significantly harder for students to use it as well. I stopped paying for the corec and take my son elsewhere to swim--places that are family friendly.

Cost was $10 per adult. They do offer concessions and tables for eating. There are also games for cash play located in the eating/concession area. The referees were knowledgeable and professional. The facility was well maintained. There was plenty of parking. But aside from that, the Legacy Courts is a shining example of the abuse of capitalism that preys on parents who want to please their children. The cost to join the league is more than most travel team fees. Additionally, each spectator is charged $10 to enter the facilities! Instruction was inconsistent at best. Practice took place one a week, if at all. At the beginning of the season, my son's team name and coach changed several times; he was 1/4 of the way through the season before he received a uniform. The schedule was horrendous! Saturday game times were not provided until Friday every week. Furthermore, it was not unusual for me to verify the game times with the coach on Friday afternoon, only to have them change before Saturday morning. Never before have I had a child in a sport and been unable to provide grandparents with a schedule of game times for the entire season. I am grateful that the facility is nearby, but but for the ability to plan my summer I'd almost rather drive to a place like Grand Park. At least for the inconvenience of driving there, I know I would have a schedule in advance so I could plan my weekend accordingly, and am rarely charged an entrance fee
