It was reimagined almost 10 years ago in 2014. There is free street parking available for the park and you could also park in the Bauer Family Center lot, which it sits behind. The park is not very big and has a decent full basketball court, a shelter with picnic tables under it, and a a couple of playgrounds. There is fitness equipment there, but it looks to be in fair condition, and thats generous. There are two playground areas here. They are both on the rubbery mat surface that are popping up at most new parks. There is an area for smaller kids that is fenced in and has a jungle gym with a tiny bridge, and some slides. There is also a low hanging swing there and a metal bench for caregivers to sit and watch the littles play. The other playground area, for bigger kids, has a bank of traditional/toddler swings. This area features a monstrous jungle gym contraption over there. As well as a stand up see-saw, and seat spinners. The equipment seems relatively new and is in great repair. The park has a hole seems to be well maintained and was clean. There is a fence around the entire park's perimeter. Other park amenities include a shower, which I found random, a glider swing, a share a book kiosk, and some benches (the Buddy Bench). This is not a destination park, but is a very nice community park that is nestled in a small neighborhood.

Parking is limited to street parking for the park visitors, but there is a lot for the Bauer Family Center if visiting both places. I was able to street park on Fountain St without any problems. There is also a small shelter area for shade since the trees on the property are on the perimeter and don't offer much shade to the playground. I thought there was a gravel lot on site, but the curb at the edge of the road is not designed to access it. The row of trees that the previous review mentioned seems to be gone. Now the playground is in full sun and the picnic table has been moved. The base for the playground is sprouting weeds and shows a lack of attention to the park. What happened? I was able to street park across the road since no parking is allowed along the park. There is a basketball court with two of the three backboards having rims attached. The swings, rocker, and slide fort seem to have held up pretty well, but the trash container had either been tipped over or was full and needed to be removed. It just wasn't nearly as inviting as it appeared in the earlier pictures. The lack of shade hindered anyone from the area using the park even though it was a warm and sunny day. Recently a picnic table was added under the maple trees which separate South Street Park from the Heart Walk Park. The picnic table was donated by the Apple Popcorn Festival Committee in 2012. In easy walking distance from most of Brookston's residential areas, there is also ample parking in the park or along Wood Street. The Heart park may also be entered via Wood Street Park.

What I like best about the park are the mature trees that provide lots of shade. Some of the trees are over 400 years old. There is a huge colorful playground with climbing structures, swings and slides. The base is a mix of mulch and soft matting. Benches line the area for parents to sit and watch kids . (The equipment could use a good cleaning from the trees.) There are two ball diamonds with bleachers within the park. A beautiful stream that meanders through the park attracts fisherman. Tree-covered picnic areas are scattered along the creek. The Vermont Covered Bridge spans the creek and is open to pedestrian traffic. There are restroom facilities near the playground. There are several parking areas throughout the park and you can drive along the creek. Highland Park is a great place to bring the family.

There is parking right next to these attractions and easy access for those who need it. They were both behind glass so the glare made it hard to see both, but they were amusing. Right next to the display was a playground suitable for all ages. The slide is a bit high, and it seemed old, but in good condition. There are also covered picnic tables in the area. Down the ways a bit in the park is a red covered bridge that was fun to walk through and take some photos with. Lastly, there is a large pavilion stage area what was having an orchestra concert, free to attend, and the audience was partially shaded with some picnic tables in the back as well.

Wolf Park is a wolf sanctuary where people are educated about wolves and taught to be respectful of…read morethese magnificent creatures. You can go out in groups to explore the land and you might get lucky enough to actually see a wolf in the wild. There are lots of fun things to buy in the gift shop. There is also 2 very nice full basketball courts. The park also touts a large sledding hill and handball court. The sled hill is huge and is located behind the play area. The handball area is on the backside of tennis courts. You will find 4 picnic shelters with picnic tables under them here and an awesome bathroom facility co located with the large shelter. Near the front of the park next to one of the shelters are 3 very nice and well maintained sets of corn hole boards. They are very impressive. The park has a fenced in splash pad that looks pretty cool. They have benches around the perimeter for parents to sit and watch the littles. In the warmer months it is open daily from 9 AM to 7 PM. The center piece of the park is it playground area. It is lined with rubber matting and turf. It also has shade awnings and some new age equipment. There is a bank of swings that has a traditional swing, a toddler swing, and an expression swing. There are a couple of saucer swings, a universal carousel, a bunch of net climbers, a couple of slides, a 4-square course, a see-saw, some percussion instruments, and a whirl and twirl. I must say, the equipment looks straight out of an Ikea catalog. There are a few benches in this area for parents to sit and watch their kids. The park's paved fitness/jogging trail is awesome. It is well paved and has dog poop stations placed along the route. There is a huge parking lot for the park and they have even added a little bridge that connects the back parking spots with the park, crossing over a little prairie area. In addition to all that, the park has a few green space pockets that are suitable for playing catch, a pick up football game, a soccer match, flying a kite or other similar activities. The park is one of the nicer ones that I have visited and I like that the play are does not have dirt or mud. It is very well maintained and in good shape. I hope to make it back to this park when the splash pad is operational and get the full experience.

Hidden gem of a wonderland in Whitestown. Amazing climbing structures, swings, slides, splash pad,…read moretennis and pickle ball courts, corn hole, merry-go-round and much more. There are many many sensory and musical structures for learning. This is the nicest playground I have ever visited - hands down. My granddaughter did not want to leave. The playground is about two years old and is kept immaculate by the park service. There is a soft mat under all structures incase the kids fall. There is parking for about a hundred cars, but we were here alone today in the early morning. The facilities are open dawn til dusk. All facilities are totally accessible and stroller friendly. There are swings designed for special needs visitors. There are structures for all ages groups. A number of canopies are arranged across the structures to provide shade. There are awesome unisex and family restroom facilities and four picnic pavilions. There are plenty of benches surrounding the park for parents to relax. There are also plenty of strategically place trash receptacles. Courts and pavilions appear to be first come first serve. There is a nice sidewalk-running path around the park with amenities for dog clean up. Covid guidelines are posted and the park is smoke free. We will be regulars. Well worth the trip.

Southwest of Lafayette is the new town of Shadeland (it still has a Lafayette mailing address…read morethough). The folks who live there have a fairly new park that has a combination of sports and playground equipment for kids to use. There is a nice parking lot on the southwest corner. To the east is a fair sized shelter with a picnic table and a grill. Down the hill to the north are a basketball court and a baseball field. Between the basketball and the parking lot is a bright and unique playground. There are lots of large animal shapes and even a few dinosaurs for kids to climb on. The rest of the equipment serves the same function of lots of other playground equipment in other parks, but these pieces look unique and might make for a little bit more excitement from kids given the chance to play here. The negative is that there is very limited shade outside of the shelter probably due to the park being so new. Maybe they should plant a few trees around the playground to solve that problem down the road. Review #1070

Be sure to bring sunblock because unfortunately the toddler area is in the sun whereas the older kid area has lots of shaded areas. If you get hot, the water park is nearby. There needs to be a couple extra trash cans dispersed throughout the area. There are adult exercise apparatus near one of the parking lots. Enjoy watching as your littles play the musical instruments or as they pick ent size of slide they prefer.

Munger Park is a 32-acre park developed on land donated by Cinergy-PSI. It is named after Thomas and Alice Munger, whose $100,000 donation made development possible. The park was dedicated in 1997. The trail, which I found very accessible, offers lots of open space for frisbee play. The trail goes around the pond and fishing is permitted (state regs apply). Munger Park participates in Indiana DNR's urban fishing program called FishIN in the City. The shelter is located next to the asphalt parking lot off of Greenbush Street. As Ken N. notes in his review, if you want the playground, enter at the south entrance; the north entrance offers the shelter, lake, and hiking. You can easily access all of it without moving the car if you're able to walk/roll, etc. about one mile. The shelter is available for rent each day of the week. You can reserve online, though be aware reservations are non-refundable. This is a really attractive park. It's relaxing, well cared for, and offers great views and easy ways to enjoy the area and take a stroll. The park also has benches to relax along the way. I'd easily return on future trips. This may be more of a 4-star, however, I liked it enough that I'm sticking with the 5-star rating.
