Good food. The axe throwing is fun. The Guinness is overpriced but everything else was great.

I went here on a recommendation from a friend who spends time in the Oxford area on business and…read moreloves BBQ. She had never been herself, mind you. She just said that she heard about "a shack in the middle of nowhere with great ribs." I had to kill half my phone's battery to find a mention of the place that had an address. As for the business hours and phone number? Forget about it. But the lure was enticing - a small family-run grocery with no seating and raved-about smoked meats. And the name itself (supposedly the Mom's name of the Mom and Pop proprietors) was enough for me to go in search of it. When and if you go on this quest and your GPS directs you to get on Old Oxford Road off of 7 *NORTH OF* the 310 junction, ignore it and get on Old Oxford Road where it joins 7 below 310. Because if you do that, my friends, it's the very first property you come across. And if you do what I did and put your faith in your smart phone, you will end up on a very long roundabout which is only partially paved and you car's paint job and suspension will thank me if you don't do that. And if you are looking at the map right next to this review and not understanding how that can be, that's because THE MAP IS LYING TO YOU. I told Yelp where to put the red-star marker thingy and they are ignoring me. It should be waaaaay below where it is, at the other point where 7 and 310 meet. However you get there, when you get there the grocery is really just that by appearances. Most of the other customers (and there were a few) were there for beer. There's room for about a dozen cars to park, but there would be more if the rusted out car cemetery was cleared out of the backyard. There is a table inside the space but it looks like it's set up for a private late-night poker game or the family's on-site meals and meetings. In other words, it doesn't look like it's there for you. Even though there was no sign anywhere indicating that they had hot food and the lunch meats behind the deli counter looked like they didn't see much action, when I asked the nice gentleman behind the counter if he had any BBQ, he did indeed. Ribs and pulled pork. We got one of each. Ribs turned out to be a pork rack with a container of sauce on the side. The sauce was closer to sweet and sour sauce in taste and consistency. The ribs had decent flavor to them but were not fall-off-the-bone tender. They didn't fight too hard to get off the bone either, though. The pulled pork ended up being a sandwich. The pork was tasty but there wasn't enough of it compared to the large and partially stale bun. The coleslaw was creamy and fresh but I'm also fairly certain it wasn't homemade. I can't fault them too much for the food. As the draw to them comes from the fact that they are in the middle of nowhere, the problem with being in the middle of nowhere is you don't get many customers. It's not like the smoker was on (or even in view). I can't fault them for the supply/demand logistics of sporadic customers for a product that takes hours to prepare. But I can fault them for the price. We paid too much, in my opinion. A rack of ribs, one underwhelming sandwich, and a bottle of soda came to $23. I don't know what cost what since there's no itemized receipt. But the draw for you, I'd imagine, if you've read all of this, is saying that you drove to the middle of nowhere Mississippi, to a shack called Betty Davis, for some BBQ. And that's a worthy quest, no matter what I thought of my meal. Go for it.

This is my favorite bbq in Mississippi, and that's saying a lot!…read moreAs a Mississippi local raised on some of the best bbq in the area, I can easily say Betty Davis is the best. The ribs are straightforward because they don't need much adornment. They are cooked perfectly and served with a delicious, tangy/slightly spicy sauce. Betty Davis forever!!!!

I've had the pulled pork, bbq bologna, sausage on the sausage cheese plate, and the baby back ribs. I've had a bunch of the sides and they aren't as good as the proteins, they will do. It's in an old office of a concrete plant, I think. It's kinda slapped together haphazardly, like a good bbq place should be. I do believe I have never seen a one story building with four levels, but tada!! It's got a real smoker with real wood burning inside it. It's this that makes the meats so damn tasty. I didn't see any automation, rotisserie smokers, cook and holds, none of it. They do however have a ventless fryer back in the kitchen. Not something you see that often and this one is old school, 2020 model, LOL. The small basket it has means they cannot cook that much at once, so I've always gotten fresh fried anything. That's uncommon in the bbq world. Each time we come it seems there is about six-eight months between the next visit. Originally I believe it was because one of my daughters had "beef" with one of the little servers. She waited on us a couple of times and E. swore that she was going to mess with our food. LOL. I am pretty sure that never happened. My last few visits have just been great. It's worth the drive here as nothing in north MS competes with this establishments BBQ. Tell them that Adam sent you! They will be like "what?" ;) '24 - 103/101
