My family has been bringing our dogs to Gaithersburg Animal Hospital since the 1990s. We originally saw Dr. Dan before he retired, and over the years we've trusted the hospital with many of our pets. We first started seeing Dr. Tripti with our dogs, Bobo and Linnie, because they were both very skittish and anxious. She has a special certification in handling fearful pets, and it truly shows. Hunter isn't particularly fearful, but we've continued seeing her because she's such an exceptional veterinarian. Hunter is very vocal, and Dr. Tripti is incredibly patient with him. She talks to him throughout the visit, gives him treats, and seems to understand exactly what he needs. It's honestly so sweet to watch. One of my favorite things is that she calls the dogs "people." You can tell she genuinely loves and respects every animal she treats. She's also extremely knowledgeable, kind, and takes the time to answer all of our questions without making us feel rushed. She cares just as much about the human family members as she does the furry ones. I also have to mention my sister's dog, who has a history of being very fearful and can become aggressive enough to bite. My sister said Dr. Tripti and her team handled him better than any other veterinary office they've visited. He stayed calm throughout the visit and wasn't scared or aggressive at all, which was incredibly impressive. What an amazing experience it's been. We've seen two veterinarians between our two dogs and they're both warm, caring, and very knowledgeable, offering fantastic advice and solid medical care. One tricky situation was handled quickly and truly effectively after the last vet couldn't seem to figure things out. The cost is more than reasonable and less than half what we paid at the Bethesda vet for same services. And they follow up--you just know they really want to do the best thing possible for your pet. Even the front desk staff is amazing, which is really hard to find in any facet of medicine anymore. And they offer true online scheduling, which is such a blessing, especially with an under-the-weather pet on the weekends; it's really easy to get that early-week appointment without waiting for them to open and answer the phone. It's been about six months since we made the switch and so far, so great. Definitely worth the drive up 270 and if you're closer, you're blessed--this is the diamond.

I didn't get the impression that the previous vet we had gone to loved cats, whereas at Clarksburg Animal Hospital, they do :) We mostly see Dr. Greta, but have also seen Dr. Christy once or twice as well. They always run on time, spend ample time with us (as in, they're never in a rush to go to the next appt, so we can ask all the questions we like), and Dr. Greta always seems to remember our babies' medical history. She must record good notes as well in the medical records, because one time recently, Dr. Greta wasn't in, and we saw Dr. Christy, and Dr. Christy knew exactly what was going on. It's easy to get appointments as well - when it seems like we need to get in urgently, we've always been able to get in the same day... within a few hours. And finally, the office is also very efficient. When we need medical records to be submitted to insurance, they always send them ultra-quickly, which certainly helps with the insurance reimbursements. And it's a nice touch when we have to leave the babies there for dental cleanings, they text us when the procedure is beginning along with a photo of our kitties. When I discovered this, I tried using the hydrogen peroxide/water mixture squirted down his throat, to get him to vomit up the raisins. That wasn't successful, so I started calling emergency vet services. I called poison control, after being unsuccessful in securing help from VRA or Blue Pearl, which are listed as having emergency vets on call. The poison control lady mentioned Clarksburg Animal Hospital, so I called. They said to bring him right in. Time is of the essense in poisoning cases. Raisins harm the dog's kidneys.He was taken right in back, given something to make him throw up, where he gave up 10 raisins, and about an hour later, he was discharged. The vets are very professional and knowledgeable, and their front desk staff is generally good. The office is a little small, but it's run out of the basement of a large house, so it's to be expected. They really care for an animal's well-being. The only downside is that their prices are quite high; it is a very expensive practice. Pet insurance is definitely recommended to defray the cost. Recommended!

About a month before she passed, we were told she had a heart murmur, but it was presented as not serious. There was no urgency, no clear explanation of what it could mean, and no follow-up from the office. A few weeks later, when we noticed a decline, we reached out repeatedly. Calling almost every day for about a week. Each time, we had to re-explain the entire situation, and we never received consistent guidance or a meaningful follow-up. It felt disorganized and dismissive during a time when we were extremely worried. On top of that, appointments were consistently delayed, often waiting around an hour just to be seen. Our dog ultimately passed, and we never received any follow-up, check-in, or acknowledgment. The entire experience felt extremely impersonal and lacking in empathy. We strongly believe our little girl would be alive if we had originally gone somewhere that properly communicated the seriousness of her condition and guided us on next steps.

As soon as we got him to the practice Dr. Salazar dropped everything and took control. She allowed me to stay with my dog and explained everything she was doing. She got my little guy's artery clamped and he was on the operating table in seconds. Dr. Salazar and her team worked well into the night to save the little chap. We made two more visits, one to have the drains removed and one to have the stitches taken out. On each visit I was treated like an old friend although this was my first time here. The care, compassion and expertise of this team led by Dr. Salazar are beyond words. As a final point, when it comes to the wellbeing of the little chap, money is not an object but nevertheless the bill for this magnificent service was more than fair and I unhesitatingly recommend this practice.

Also, I really appreciated the fact that they did not try to recommend (rather force) 80 million "unnecessary" things for our pup. For the most part, making an appointment was fairly simple and we only had to wait about 1.5 weeks for routine checkup. Similar to other places, you have to provide a deposit to confirm the appointment; I think the deposit was around 88 bucks. Unfortunately, I don't believe they have an online system for making appointments so you would have to call for scheduling. I think this was fine, but since you have to pay a deposit to confirm your appointment, I prefer not giving my CC number over the phone. But, hey, it is what it is. For the most part, check in was easy. However, I have to admit that I was slightly annoyed bc the receptionist indicated that the office had not received our dog's health records from his prior vet and animal rescue. About a week prior to our appointment, I emailed the documents and even called a few days after sending these documents to confirm receipt. That said, the receptionist mentioned that the office recently switched to a new system, so I'll brush that off as a technical glitch. Also, since this was our dog's first visit, I don't think we will need to worry about this in the future because he now has a record at this animal hospital. But if you are a 1st time visit, definitely call to confirm receipt of your animal's records and maybe even bring a hard copy with you to the first visit. My experience was vets in the area is limited. However, I thought the prices here were a bit cheaper than the previous vet we visited. Oh! As of July 2025, 1st timers will receive a $50 discount.
