I believe this is Terre Haute's largest cemetery, as there are over 45,000 burials there. It is very spread out and driveable, as you don't have to walk that far from your car, no matter where you park in the cemetery. If you're there just to browse, stroll, or look up a historical person's grave, I strongly recommend visiting the front office, located at the entrance. They will gladly give you a map, which shows you to several local notables' graves. The most visited grave there is the Eugene V. Debs one, and the staff will point out where it is. There are some other "famous" people buried here including singer Joe Dowell (who hit #1 with "Wooden Heart"; he is buried with his parents). Cemeteries are not for everyone - but for anyone who is into local Terre Haute history, this is definitely for you. read more

Their prices reflect their high maintenance standards, as everything is expensive. When we spoke with a representative about buying a plot, the representative was dishonest about burial and cremation laws. As a result, we bought a plot because of his false information. Later, when we learned we had been misled, we tried to reason with Roselawn to get a refund, since the arrangement was not what we wanted. They told us they were not responsible for their employee's lies; they fired that particular employee, and we are stuck with the plot. I think that is very poor practice, and do not understand why an ethical business would need to do such a thing.

Office person earlier had lied to us that the Health Dept was unable to print Death Certificates . We called , the Health Dept found they had not only filed it the day before but had no issues with printing ) The Death Certificates ordered by Samaritan were ready they just had not picked up, and they said many other funeral homes had been in to pick up this day. We purchased our own Death certificates without any issues . When we went to pick up our father's ashes the office staff member was upset the Health Department had called them out on about lying about them also. The staff member became escalated yelling at myself and my mourning mother , physically gesturing, and telling us to get out of her office and then refusing to provide my father's ashes. She was upset that the Heath Dept had called and said she would not be lied about, it was her office manager that we had spoken to., and we were wrong to say they had lied. We should have called the police on this staff member ! When asking her to calm down and tell g her she was unprofessional and this was not the way to treat a customer who has lost a husband and is in mourning (my mother who is now hysterical crying) she continued with her yelling and insisted she would not be lied about then continued to physically gesture at me. We just wanted our fathers ashes I had to put my body in-between (stand in the doorway with my arms blocking the the doorway entrance) my mother and this office employee to get paperwork signed to release my father's ashes - absurd! She refused to deescalate and wanted to continue to argue. Unless you want poor service, misinformation, and have to literally battle for your loved ones remains , do not choose Samaritan for services. ..... 9 days after the death of my father and ... we still don't have the death certificates we paid for from them. Horrific and sad. As a HR professional for over 18 years, I would tell you that this employee was hostile, unprofessional and aggressive. Her voice tone level was. 8/10 and I would have recommended to the employer termination for such an at risk employee for such actions with a customer as well as cameras to ensure such interactions can be recorded.

I had an antique welder generator that wouldn't start so I brought it in and a few days later they called me an told me it was ready. I took it there for the engine, but once they had got it running, they tried the generator and found that it was not working either, so they made those repairs and adjusted the rpm so that the generator was producing 120V, and all for a very reasonable price. I was surprised at the size and quality of their inventory of lawn equipment and parts. They are a little off the beaten path, but worth the trip.

Simply a nice place to visit…read more I had not been out on the campus of St. Mary's for 25+ years. I specifically visited last week to pop into the White Violet Center and their Farm Store. Although there were not many fruits nor vegetables for purchase (I imagine it can often simply be about timing), I enjoyed going into the Farm Store in addition wandering the grounds to see where the greenhouses and gardens are located that would grow the fruits and veggies I could not purchase. The store has local honey and natural products from cheese and meet to pickles and granola. Not a wide variety, but the store is charming and I glad I stopped in. The White Violet Center grounds as not only the Farm Store, but the orchard, greenhouses, bee boxes and of course the alpacas. Females and males are kept in separate pastures, but they are so cute you have to go see them. They are bizarre, peculiar and beautiful. Who knew?...alpacas in Indiana. Now I would not wonder out there weekly to get fresh veggies because I am not close by, but the property of St. Mary's and thus White Violet are beautiful grounds and are worthy of a visit. If ever in the area, it would be worth it to stop in.
