Masala chai

Randomly found this place down the street from our hotel one morning! Was craving some savory waffles and woodpecker 47 delivered. Thankfully we came early because after we received our food, the wait was long and seating was a little difficult. So go early! We ordered some Benedict waffles off the menu and it was absolutely divine! So good we came back the next day to try more. Their chai latte was also not too sweet but had the perfect amount of spice. Cute little restaurant in the heart of Brussels. Will definitely go back!

Trust me, Im not cavalier about giving out Five Star reviews for restaurants on Yelp. Other than historical sites and tours I think I can count the Five Star restaurant reviews on one hand. That being said.....the drunken sailor dish at Woodpecker 47 has taken the title (at least for now) of the best breakfast/brunch bite of food I have ever had. The leak waffle with the delicious smoked salmon, perfectly poached egg and creamy hollandaise (with a touch of spice added) was crunchy, creamy, salty, Smokey and sweet all in one. It was so good I had it two days in a row and would have sent for a third had I not had to catch a train to Amsterdam. If you're in the area get your ass over there. Oh yea, the bacon grilled cheese and burgers were pretty good to but if I were you.....go drunken Sailor and don't look back!!!!

Great breakfast place! I went on a Monday morning about 15 minutes after they opened and was not crowded at all. Service was very quick and friendly. Enjoyed the outside seating being able to sit and watch the street activity. Ordered coffee and the 'Brunch in a Bun' and it was great! Prices were reasonable considering the touristy area. About 20 euros for coffee and breakfast. Definitely would recommend and will go again to try something else.

My first time trying Woodpecker cafe. Friendly staff and good food. Fast service. Prices reasonable.

This is the best waffle breakfast in my European travel! The magic mushroom entree was delicious! The ambiance was relaxed. Service was great. I definitely recommend if you're in Brussels to eat here for breakfast.

Went on a Sunday around 3:30 and we were sat right away, brunch ends at 4pm and smash burgers start at 5pm. Tables are fairly close to one another and there was only one waitress but she was doing her best. Menus are scanned with a QR code on the table, also it is one check only per table. There's something for everyone from vegan to carnivore...English muffins, sourdough bread and waffles. Overall good came out pretty fast and was very good. They do have a bathroom so that's a plus!

Speck special

The husband and I were walking around before many things were open and decided to stop into this adorable place. We each had a waffle - his drunken sailor had salmon, my speck special had thick ham (aka speck) . Both dishes come covered in a lovely hollandaise sauce that has a tiny kick. You pick your coffee up at the bar (mime had oat milk, yay!) then you get a timer for your meal so you can pick it up at the kitchen window. Both the Barista (helped my sad French out by speaking English) and chef were charming. This place has a trendy young vibe with lots of charm.

Chicken is dark meat. They don't have ketchup. Service was fine, but the place is extremely crowded.

Poached Eggs were good, but their service atrocious. 5 waiters and one chef unable to cope. 40 minutes to get our food.

He reminded us of a combination of Neil Fak (from The Bear) and Lazlow (from What We Do in the Shadows). He was coordinating the line, seating, and gave outstanding recommendations, as well as praise, when we picked our wine. We were quoted about 45 minutes to wait, as they don't take reservations. A two-top opened up inside and Julian was concerned that it would be too hot, so he made me go inside to check first. Thankfully, it was right by the open area leading to outside, so we took it and were seated in about 20 minutes, rather than 45. The place was packed the entire time we were there; its reputation certainly precedes it. Good energy and beautifully decorated with stunning art inside. Carbonades a la Biere (beef stew; 19.45 Euros) is their speciality and was delicious! So reasonably priced for the flavor and te size of the dish! After Julian mentioned that the lamb is the best dish on the menu, there was no question that I was ordering it. Jarret d'Agneau Roti (Roasted Lamb Shank; 27.35 Euros) was so very good! Full of Rosemary and so tender! As Julian was running by, I quickly asked him: "Tiramisu or Tarte Tatin?" No hesitation, he replied, "Tarte Tatin." I wasn't sure if he actually put the order in for us or not, but then it arrived at our table and it was delicious! Pear Tarte (8.65 Euros) with a side of ice cream. Not too sweet, with lovely spices in the pears. Cash only, always a line, but totally worth it!

You likely will see a line for dinner. Don't worry it does go pretty fast and likely faster than…read morewhat they may quote. The stew was fantastic! Tender meat bursting with flavor with some mashed potatoes to soak up the sauce. I enjoyed the lamb as well, however a bit too much rosemary for me. Get the pear dessert. The soft and sweet pear coupled with the ice cream was one of the best desserts I've had in some time.

When we arrived we were met by a really nice guy behind the counter who helped us oit with his recommemdations. There were so much delicious options, but in the end I got the Chorizo and Goat Cheese Foccia as well as the Peppered Salami & Cheese Panini Melt. Originally the peppered salami & cheese was only an option for the ciabatta, but the guy let us choose different bread if we wanted to. Awesome service, I'm telling you. Both of them were super tasty, and pretty filling. If you're looking for a place that's got both the taste and the filling for a good price, this is the place for you.

Compared to the medinas in Morocco I would spend the next few weeks walking through, the streets of Brussels are fairly easy to navigate, although signage is still lacking to some degree. My GPS signal was pretty much nonexistent, so after guessing which train stop I needed to get off on, I really needed to pull up a map on an internet connection to get well situated. Delish prominently displayed their free wifi sign, at a time when few other businesses were open so early in the morning. What a relief. After getting settled in with a connection I decided to sample one of their signature coffee drinks, a mocha with a chantilly cream topping and real chunks of Belgian chocolate at the bottom. I didn't know I needed it, but once I had it damn was I grateful. It was the perfect pick-me-up for the sour attitude I was experiencing after dealing with such bad customer service, and the gals here helped relieve some of that too. Their welcoming demeanor and smiles really made a difference for me that morning, and helped change my impression of the otherwise cold city to that point.
