We signed up for a private session since our schedules didn't work with the group classes they offered. The communication was very casual and easy. We meet Kyle right outside of the studio by their Woodshop stand sign. We walked down a ramp and to the last suite on the left (I believe). The shop smelled like fresh wood chips and had great circulation. We learned so much from Kyle and appreciate his patience as he tried to test our math/fraction abilities haha. But even with the math, Kyle made it felt easy and informed us of the power tools and made the machines less scary. It was such a great experience and our bookshelves turned out sooo great! We gained more than just bookshelves but confidence in building and a spark for ideas for the next projects. My wife will be joining the intermediate class and build more things for our home. So happy a studio like this exists! read more

Took class via Colorado Free University. Tracy (instructor) proved to be a highly competent, patient, and tolerant instructor. Learned how to use tools I have never used before. Discovered that one tool I had used before I was using incorrectly. No wonder I couldn't get the results I wanted. Recommend beginner class to anyone wanting a great intro to woodworking. I got the beginner class as a gift. My handy man capabilities are about a 1/10. So I needed a really good teacher to walk me through tool usage. I cannot recommend Tracy and her class enough. She was a really good teacher, very patient, and willing to help. I built a cool side table and I'm going to take the second class to build a bookcase for my kids. read more

As a complete woodworking novice, I knew I needed some guidance to get started building my own projects. I found Tracy through Colorado Free University and I am so glad I did! I started with her Introductory Bookshelf Class, which taught us the basics of using a chop saw, planer, table saw (a two-for-one as we made dado cuts as well), Kreg jig, and handheld router. By the end of the workshop, I had a classic, functional bookshelf to take home. I was addicted to my Lego sets as a kid, and it was great to feel that familiar rush of seeing a 3-D object of my own creation standing right in front of me. The real joy of taking Tracy's intro class is the access it allows you to her intermediate classes. These are essentially supervised shop hours that give students the opportunity to build custom projects, develop and hone new skills, and learn from other budding woodworkers. Tracy and her assistant Dylan are some of the best teachers I know--knowledgeable, patient, and creative. They never fail to meet students where they are, offering guidance and hands-on instruction when needed and letting students take the reins when they feel comfortable. They're there to help you come up with great designs, solve problems as they arise, and revel with you when whatever you're making finally goes 3-D. If you have a DIY project to tackle or just want to take up a new hobby, I truly cannot recommend Woodworks highly enough! read more

Let me start by saying I don't leave reviews often, I think the last one I left was over 4 years ago. That being said, the experience we had in this class was so over the top excellent, that I felt it necessary to give praise where praise is due. My girlfriend and I just finished up the beginner's table class with Tracy. I have always wanted to get into woodworking, but living in an apartment, that's just not a possibility right now. Luckily, my girlfriend came through on getting classes for us for Valentine's Day. Tracy was an incredible instructor and just an overall wonderful human being. She was patient and managed a large group of people with a great deal of professionalism and efficiency. It didn't take long for me to know that I wanted to continue this journey so I am already signed up for the intermediate classes. This particular class was taught at Rockler in Denver, but the intermediate class will be taught at Tracy's shop, and I can't wait to work in it. If you're even the least bit nervous about woodworking, Tracy takes all the stress out of it and is incredibly patient with absolute beginners, and I highly recommend her classes! read more

Love this place and teacher Tracy Gray. I signed up for a beginning class and then had an unexpected conflict and she was gracious and flexible to get me into the next class. She is knowledgeable and patient in teaching and insuring everyone is hands-on to learn various machines, techniques and build their own table or book shelf project. I started off as a woodworking novice. I had a class in middle school where we made a shelf and I made my own in a closet in a small apartment using lumber from Home Depot, so when I received the beginner class as a gift, I opted to make the small end table. There was a finer art to woodworking than I remembered from the traumatic experiences of middle school that intrigued me enough to sign on for the intermediate course in Tracy's shop and I picked an ambitious project, which I had wanted for a while, but couldn't justify paying retail for: a combination 6-place dining table with hidden board game surface. There were enough examples out there for me to draw up my own plans and with Tracy and Dylan's help, figure out how to actually implement the design, along with showing me a bunch of techniques and equipment that I'd never been exposed to before. They helped me to create a work of art for my dining room that should last for generations and provide countless hours of entertainment as the centerpiece for lots of board gaming. Their guidance has been expert: illustrative and available, but not too hands-on, so that I'm able to figure things out and grow on my own at my own pace, but always available if I'm struggling. read more

Tracy and her team recently finished 2 projects in my home. They installed a custom office with walnut cabinets, shelving, and a live edge walnut desk return, and it looks absolutely beautiful!! This was not an easy project but it went very smoothly from beginning to end. She is very easy to work with and picks up quickly on what her customer is looking for and shares ideas that make it even better. The 2nd project was a custom dry bar area in my dining room. Again, flawless execution by Tracy and her team. I am definitely planning on using Tracy again for more projects in the future. read more

Such a fun experience! I took a private beginners session with my tween nephews and it was great for everyone. It was a great introduction to woodworking--learning all of the tools and safety procedures--and our side tables turned out awesome! Tracy was a great instructor and managed to keep my nephews engaged and excited to learn. I took the beginner bookcase class this weekend and it was great! I learned some new techniques and information, got to try out some power tools I had not used before, and left with a great wood piece to finish and admire. Tracy is the perfect instructor for adults who know may or may not know some basics and for those who are knowledgeable and want a refresher or more formal instruction. Fantastic pace for adults who can take basic instruction and run with it as well as one-on-one attention for the needier students. She has a warm, direct personality that immediately makes you feel comfortable. I started with the table class but eventually ended up taking several more classes to build a variety of different projects. The instructors are very knowledgeable and helpful figuring out different aspects of the projects and helping to problem solve as things come up. Beginning Woodworking, which I discovered among the course offerings of the Colorado Free University, was a terrific way to learn about some tools and techniques for making useful things with wood. Tracy did a great job showing, telling, guiding and coaching each one in the class to use the tools and strategies of machine woodworking, to build a book case. Her easy going style created an atmosphere of fun and camaraderie. She told stories and used "oops" moments to share tips and strategies, and to illustrate or demonstrate important considerations. I left confident that I could apply my new understanding to future projects, including assessing the value of wood furniture based on certain touchstone principles of quality. construction. I have been going to Tracy's evening workshops for several months. These classes are absolutely terrific! You can bring any project you want and they will help you make it. Just since I've been there, I have seen people make exquisite little boxes, hand tools, beds, a painter's easel, a rabbit hutch, coat racks, a giant party cart, several unique tables and lots of different kinds of cabinets. They can help you with literally ANYTHING that you want to make! Whatever you can dream up, Tracy and her staff will help you create it!
