My parents are huge Braves fan and they were both extremely excited to have the minor league team come here! I've been to only one of the Mississippi Braves games and it was a ton of fun. I went with my parents and my two daughters. It just so happen they were playing the Jacksonville Suns (where I have lived for 17 years and where my daughters are from) that night. The game was very excited and both teams played very well. Of course my daughters and me rooted for the Suns all night long! I'm pretty sure we were the only people in the stands who weren't rooting for the Braves. About halfway through the game, the people behind us finally leaned down and said, "Y'all must be from Jacksonville." The girls and I gave them huge smiles and said, 'Yes we are... how'd you guess?!" And we all had a good laugh at that one. My Suns won that night! Yay! But the Braves didn't make it easy on them. I would love to catch another Braves game sometime when I visit Mississippi whether they happen to be playing the Suns again or another team. Growing up in Mississippi, one of the highlights of the entire year was when the State Fair arrived…read morein town every year at the beginning of October. It was even more thrilling when I was a teenager and no longer had to be accompanied by my parents!! Oh... the memories!! LOL How my friends and I managed to stay out of trouble, I have no idea! The State Fair still continues to come around at the beginning of October every year, but the grounds themselves aren't nearly as nice as they once were. Time has definitely taken its toll on the pavement, etc. Basically, watch out for cracks and don't trip. The Mississippi Coliseum is also located on the Fairgrounds which is where concerts are held as well as the Dixie National Rodeo (which comes around once a year). During these times, the Fairgrounds become parking for the Coliseum. As someone else mentioned in a review, the fence is now gone, so the huge slide (which is officially open during the State Fair) is now fair game all year long. I wouldn't want to be caught though because I would assume trespassing can come into play. Also, this is most definitely not the part of town I would want to be in late at night as it's not exactly safe. So play on the slide at night at your own risk and try to not get arrested.

What pissed me off was after the movie was over, I wanted to get a refill on my drink and there was a concession stand right out of the theater. I wasn't buying anything so I waited right outside the line with cup in hand and lid off. It was obvious I needed a refill. I didn't expect the employee to stop what he was doing to immediately help me. But after helping 3-4 groups of people it was obvious he was intentionally not helping me . NOT GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS. but I really shouldn't have expected more. Then someone from the backs comes to check on him and I raise my hand. She comes over And I ask for a refill. I loudly said THANKS FOR ACKNOWLEDGING ME. I know the incompetent employee heard me cause he smirked and giggled. We shouldn't have to settle for this level of rudeness. All he had to do was acknowledge me and say I'll be with you in a minute. It takes a lot more effort to be rude than nice in customer service. If anyone at the theater reads this. Wow, what an incredibly well thought out museum dedicated to the efforts of all those who have and…read morecontinue to contribute to efforts of racial justice in Mississippi. During an open morning in Jackson, we stumbled upon the museum and decided to explore and it was easily one of the most memorable parts of our trip. We started by being welcomed into the space. This museum intentionally documents the history of the civil rights museum specifically as it pertains to Mississippi. One of the docents shared that she volunteers at the museum because she remembers what it was like growing up in Mississippi as a white child and has committed her allyship to ensuring others can understand what she witnessed with a deep desire for a better future for Mississippi. It was amazing that there were other guests visiting the museum not just from other states like us, but from other countries as well! The true treat of the visit was stumbling upon the center of the museum, where the youngest freedom rider to every be imprisoned was speaking to a group of high school soccer players from Texas. He shared his story and how his activism started at such a young age. The high school students and myself were in awe of just his bravery and hearing what it was truly like to fight for what's right at such a young age. This museum tells an important story that sadly isn't over as the fight for equity and equality is never over. Yet, it's inspiring to know that there are committed individuals ensuring that in the deep South, these stories are documented and told for all those to honor and understand.
