I was really excited when I heard about Woody's. It seemed like the perfect hangout spot for me. I have visited multiple times and really tried to find positives to make me live Woody's, but it just isn't happening. The service is horrible. The manager and employees are more focused on their friends and not the customers. If you want anything resembling service, sit at the bar. There are seven stools and two people behind the bar. If you sit at a table, don't expect one of the people behind the bar to come out and help you. You will have to go up to the bar to order food and drinks. And when you do go up, good luck. You will wait for the employees to finish conversations with their friends before they will help you. I hope they have enough friends coming in and spending, otherwise they won't last a year. The food is OK. I have tried a few different things. Nothing stands out as great, just OK bar food. The kitchen staff I have interacted with are the stars of the establishment. Super friendly and a stark contrast to the front of the house staff. Seems they should be positioned opposite. They have a nice outdoor area. Old school Nintendo games. Dart boards upstairs. When they have events they can get her to know your neighbor intimately packed. The overhead music rotation is good, maybe the best thing they have going for them. I have also witnessed the core crowd/friends of employees making fun of other patrons. This absolutely turns me off to the establishment. Considering it is a bar, you would expect to encounter adults, not adolescent bully behaviors. This is a new place and they have time to recover. A major staffing over haul and expectation of customer service will be required for that to happen. read more

It was the strangest mix of people and I was, by far, the oldest person in the place. It's definitely a spot for younger folks.

I hadn't been in this space for several years and it was definitely different. It was cleaner with better lighting than the News Room ever had, but seemed very sterile. The sports bar theme seems a little pushed, it looks like someone took a few hundred dollars and went to Hobby Lobby and bought anything mass produced that had a sports reference. Completely lacking originality or an organic legitimate feel. Then as posted here before, if you are not part of the clique' then don't expect to be treated warmly. Never been to any place where the regulars and bartenders whisper and laugh at first time customers. Sorry I intruded on your private party, it won't happen again. With options such as Hamburger Mary's, Arts Bar, Mini Bar and Chez Charlie's within a block you should try a little harder. read more

Where do I begin? Staff was on their phone while people needed drinks at the bar. They were overly aggressive with their customers for the smallest things. They don't respect people when they are confronted. The operation of this business is extremely flawed. I was there last night along with one of my friends and I witnessed an altercation of one of the staff who rudely interrupted a customer who was on her way out. She had her mask on but the employee started yelling at her saying that she didn't. When the lady told the staff that she had her mask on and was in the process of leaving, the employee ripped a beer out of her hand in smashed it then grabbed her in a very hostile manner and continued to shove her out the door. From my perspective the girl was just trying to leave and she didn't Seem upset until the staff member grabbed her drink. I don't think this bar is as welcoming as they claim to be. I am so disappointed on how that lady was treated and I've decided I will not return. read more

While the drag shows and bingo nights at Hamburger Mary's are always fun, sometimes you just want to go to a sports bar. Sit down with a beer and enjoy a good meal while you watch a game on TV. Or playing a game of darts or pool after work. If that's what you're looking for, Woody's is your place. Woody's is like any other neighborhood sports bar. You have a friendly face behind the bar, dispensing drinks and lending an ear while you talk about how your fantasy football QB is on the disabled list this week. Although that bartender may, occasionally, be missing clothes. But that's to be expected at your neighborhood sports bar. As you would expect, the walls are covered with sports memorabilia. Boxing gloves, baseball bats, pictures of shirtless athletes, jock straps, german translation posters of Burt Reynolds football movies. The usual fare. And, of course, the menu. Normal bar fare like the Rowdy Roddy Piper Pork Tenderloin, "The Fridge" Perry's Pulled Pork Hoagie. Wings, hot dogs, nachos and... is that a cordon bleu sandwich? Homemade chips? Wait a minute. This place isn't like a normal neighborhood sports bar after all. This is something different. A more unique take on the well-trod sports bar theme. Instead of $0.50 Coors Light night, they offer Bear Bust Trivia Tuesdays, toga night, girl parties, and Porcelain's really Gay Karaoke and Lip Sync. Woody's is not your normal, chain, sports bar. It's much better. It's like if you went to Applebee's expecting to split a generic onion blossom with Bob from accounting. But instead of soggy onion strips you get delicious, hand-made, food with clever, suggestive names. Instead of a regional assistant general manager, you have owners who have embraced a community and want to be part of the city's culture. And Bob is still there, but he's up singing Bel Biv Devoe wearing a wig and glow bracelets. This place is for everyone. read more

This bar is fine, when it's open. Not great, but fine. Most of the time the bartenders/managers are in the corner on their phones while customers drinks sit empty. I've seen a few first timers come in, be completely ignored, and leave, sometimes after one drink, sometimes after not even being able to place an order with a bartender. But. My biggest problem with this place is that the hours are so inconsistent. Sometimes (rarely) it's open until 3 and other times it's closed before midnight. I've walked in on multiple occasions where the hours on the door say they're open for at least a few more hours, only to be told they're closing down and I need to leave. Also, for a gay bar they seem to be somewhat transphobic (based mostly on bathroom signs regarding "hygiene products") You'd think a bar with so many trans customers/employees they'd be a little more woke. read more

The Bloody Mary is delicious! Service is awesome!!! My bartender Alex was welcoming and made me glad I came in. "I ordered the Taco Tuesday Special... if they are half as good as the service they will be phenomenal. Definitely a bar I will be getting to know better in the near future. Definitely didn't feel like a sports bar but could have been the time of day. We came here after seeing a show at the Uptown. The servers were friendly but it definitely was more night club like. A few people here have it right on the nose. This place claims to be "all inclusive" and a "safe space" in actuality if you aren't friends with someone who works here, you shouldn't go. They are rude and clique and you WILL wait for the terrible bartenders. The bar manager clearly doesn't know the first thing about running ANY business, ESPECIALLY a bar. Went with some friends to watch the Broncos game at what we thought was a "sports bar". We were VERY disappointed to find that the management is apparently too cheap to get even basic cable and they didn't have any football on the 2 small TVs in the bar. The only person working was the bartender he has no sense of urgency and didn't even care, we had to literally hound him to take order. Starting out, the experience was fine. Then my sister and I went to use the restroom. As we were walking towards the restroom, one of the staff members yelled in the rudest way "put your mask on" towards my sister and my she lifted her mask over her nose. I get wearing a mask as that really wasn't an issue at all. My sister must have just not noticed that it was pulled down (we were just coming in from the patio). Then we went to use the restroom and both of us went in. Now I didn't notice the sign that prohibits this in regards we we're told to leave. Now, I do take accountability for not following that rule but it was unintentional. When we were told to leave I went to the patio to grab my husband along with two of our friends. While making our way back to get them, the same staff member who yelled at my sister proceeded to follow me and hit me on the shoulder. I turned around and she began to yell at me to wear my mask (even though my mask was on the entire time). I responded that my mask was on and that we were leaving, she continued to get verbally aggressive. After repeating myself that we were in fact leaving she snatched my drink out of my hand and smashed the glass bottle on the pavement. She then grabbed me and shoved me into the door frame leading in from the patio and threw me out. This entire altercation could have been prevented if she would have just accepted the fact that we were leaving respectfully. In this case, she had a bad attitude and mishandled the entire situation to say the least. My group and I were being respectful and tactful. We were indeed mistreated. As for myself, I was in no way intoxicated, refusing to abide or showing acts of violence to any of the staff or customers who were present. I, myself have worked in the bar industry as a server and the service I received was far from justified. I hope my review will help prepare you if you decide to visit Woody's. This has got to be the worst experience I've had with a business and the staff was extremely unprofessional. I hope that the staff at woody's will take accountability for their actions. If they really want their company to stay in business, I suggest they start with the attitude of their staff and start weaving bad employees out. read more

Visiting from out of town, we had a great evening here at Woody's Classic Sports Pub. Nice to spend time in a sports bar where everyone is welcome. We knew from friends in Kansas City that Woody's had only recently opened, but you wouldn't guess it. This bar has the comfortable feeling of a neighborhood bar where you could have been hanging out for years. Lots of sports-themed decor, and a large, friendly crowd. There is an outdoor patio area to enjoy on nice days. It was perfect the evening we went. There were even sexy cowboy guest cooks grilling on the patio. read more

I am in KC on business and may be here a month to several months. I approached the bar with seriously high hopes because, after all...it is football season! And, what good gay man doesn't like watching hot men in white tights tackle each other!? Well, I walked in and found a nice seat at the bar...and then I waited....and waited...and waited some more...until just when I was almost ready to give up, the bartender put down his phone and turned away from his friend long enough to realize my $$$ was waiting for assistance! Ace begrudgingly took my order, offered me a menu (after asking if food was still available)....and poured me my first beer. Sounds ok right!? Well, I made the mistake of asking Ace if I could get the wi-fi password....to which he angrily replied "No you can't....it is only for us!" I was shocked! Um....I am now sitting here barely eating my cheese-fries, sipping my one and only first beer, and seriously contemplating if I will want to come back here tomorrow to watch some football!!! Folks....I am here for business and I work as a corporate trainer in hospitality....I am by no means God-like....but, if one of my employees behaved with such malice towards one of my newest guests.....that employee would find themselves in perfect company.....in the unemployment line!!!! If Ace keeps up his less than inclusive and unfriendly act.....I will be certain to take my business elsewhere....and furthermore, I will use this experience with my team that I am training! I will use this to explain to them how NOT TO ACT NOR BEHAVE!!!! And, I will kindly ask them to not recommend Woody's to our guests! Sad, considering this may likely be my first and last time! But, when I go back home....this review (which appears to reflect the bar's trend) will live on! Ace personally ruined Woody's for me....and I have only been here once!
