Love, love, love for Bistro 303! My daughter booked brunch here for us on Mother's Day and we ventured in not knowing anything about the place, except that their website brought a smile to our faces. Let me tell you, we all loved it! Located just east of Broadway on Westport Road, Bistro 303 is a lovely space with a nice outdoor heated patio, cozy seating, and delicious French bistro food. The service and staff are so pleasant and attentive and the food is delicious. Bottomless mimosas are the way to go at $14/person and we enjoyed our share! Our table of four ordered the Biscuits and Gravy, Florentine Benedict, Shrimp and Grits, Avocado Toast and Eggs, and the Pommes Lyonnaise. I honestly cannot say what the best was because it was all amazing. As I'm very familiar with New Orleans cuisine, I think the shrimp and grits was truly delicious, seasoned well, and perfectly prepared. The pommes Lyonnaise are a nice potato hash alternative to traditional hash browns, and all our eggs were cooked perfectly as ordered. When asking, I was treated poorly - you order here! because they don't move from their spot behind the bar or phone. I used to like going there and in the past someone would come to your table and take your order. I guess they don't do that anymore. We left and NOT going back. So happy I found this place! This is not meant to be a negative comment in any way, but I looked all over town for a brunch spot for Mother's Day and couldn't find a single thing. Finally, I found Bistro 303. It wasn't coming up on my searches at first and I had never heard of it at the time, but I'm happy to say I'll definitely be back. The reservation was easy to make and the staff was incredibly friendly. They allowed me to change my reservation time and even had a special menu planned for Mother's Day. The outside is very unassuming. You wouldn't know that inside is an adorable bistro with a cute patio and yummy food/drinks. They have bottomless mimosas for a good price and it's actually much larger in there than you would think. We got sat right at the front by a window and were served fairly quickly. Each of us ordered something different. My brother loved his biscuits and gravy, dad got the avocado toast and ate it all, mom got shrimp and grits and I got the florentine benedict. In an effort to not totally duplicate my mom's review, I'll just say that it was all delicious. The cheesy grits on the side were a bit of a let down in my opinion and my dish was supposed to come with potatoes but it didn't. That said, I really didn't care and had a great time anyways and overall enjoyed everything. Haven't been in to 303 in YEARS... decided to stop in recently for dinner. Apparently Saturday nights is their "steak night". The place was pretty empty upon arrival. Maybe 10 people, staff included, were in the building. The bartender was polite and took our orders. He made a very nice martini... I had two... worth it. We ordered the steak. Albeit it was quite good, it was still pretty dang pricey considering what you got. It was cooked to perfection and served beautifully plated. Nonetheless, you can get an equally or even better steak locally for significantly cheaper. Ambiance is great. The bartender was excellent. Food was good. Price was a bit high. read more

A fun little gay bar, in Westport. We came in after an afternoon bingo event, and the place was hoppin'!! No martinis served on this day, with drinks in plastic cups, as they weren't usually open when we came in. Great hospitality, and they played fun 80's music to entertain us. I recently visited Bistro 303 and found the restaurant/bar was inviting. I sat at the bar and was helped immediately. I ordered the 303 club sandwich and it was excellent! The combination of smoked turkey, ham, bacon and Brie was excellent. The fries with the sandwich were fried wonderfully, not too much grease, very hot and not over fried. Look, Bistro 303 has been wonderful to me for many months. But it is not okay, just, or in any way acceptable for a doorman to tell me to "go back to whatever shelter I came from" because I left my phone in the restroom. When I asked why he was being so Trumpian, he responded it was because I "didn't have any money to spend." If this was another bar, I'd probably forgive him as uninformed and bigoted. I'd he was a patron, I'd forgive him as drunk. As an employee, I'm appalled, and am really disappointed by what I thought was an inclusive place. As of now, this bar that I used to love is no longer deserving of my discerning dollar. From my perspective this evening, they (or the employee with whom I interacted), may be gay friendly. But he/303 fundamentally misunderstand what it means to treat humans with respect. I hope they make changes to be more inclusive in the future, and as soon as they do, I'll be an excited customer once again. read more

I went here the other night w/ my besties, living it up on a Friday (Fri-yay, am i right). The environment is relaxed but the right amount of boujee, which made me feel like I was in a classy bar. There are two sections, one around the bar and one in a room behind the bar. During the time we went (7 - 10PM) the music was not that loud and we were able to talk normally. However, as it got later the music became far too loud, making it difficult to hold a conversation without shouting or leaning in close. I would expect this at a normal bar, but since this was a bar/resturant/bistro i wish the music was softer. Waiters / Bartenders are all very nice and will take time to talk to patrons. However, our waiter spent a lot of time talking with a group of guys across the bar instead of checking on our table. We would have to get up and go get him when we wanted to order another drink. Drinks were great and well prices. Specialty drinks are $7-10, which is normal for KC. Well drinks were $5. Reading the menu, the also had great weekday drink specials like $6 wine and $7 martinis. 303 has always been home base for our group of friends. Anytime we are all in town for a wedding, graduation, or just because, we always plan a happy hour here. There are massive inside comfy spaces and a solid patio for smokers and al fresco dining/drinking. The staff is spectacular and always accommodate our sometimes unannounced reunion groups topping 30. Drink and food specials change each day, but there is always a killer deal. I wouldn't suggest having dinner here as I've always enjoyed it best for the snacks and small plates while I vino and catch up on gossip. Friends of ours have raved about 303 and figuring we were long over due, we marched our merry and hungry bodies in. There wasn't a wait so we were seated promptly which was refreshing for a Sunday breakfast. Although I hate to say this, our server was sub par. He was a very polite individual but he really brought the experience down. We waited 20 minutes for a pitcher of mimosas, another 25 for our food, the profuse sweating did not help, and neither did the jokes about "how terrible I am" as a waiter. If you know you're "so terrible" that you find it humoring, why wouldn't you reevaluate yourself? I did not find this cute. The corned beef hash was worth enduring slow service. Bistro 303 offers a really great range of plates for brunch which made it hard to narrow down when ordering, but is that ever a bad thing? And whatever you do, get a pitcher of mimosas! read more

I often avoid gay bars because...well because they're trouble. But whenever I go to 303, it makes me wish there were more places like this in KC. This is a NICE bar, that just happens to be geared towards a gay clientele. No rainbows, no drag queens, no shirtless twinks dancing away their 21st birthday. Just a nice bar for adults. I'd say the crowd ranges from 30s-40s, and frankly, that's what I prefer these days. The bar staff is generally quite friendly, and while they don't do a lot of specialty drinks (which surprises me), they do well with the classics. The beer selection is fine, as is the wine. They also serve food, which I have been told is very good. I've eaten here before and enjoyed it, but it's been YEARS, so I don't feel right claiming it one way or the other. I like the decor. Huge paintings, dark wood, and lots of mirrors for which to admire yourself and/or that hot dude across the room. There is a nice, isolated patio in the back, which is great on a nice night. Bistro 303 can be VERY slow on the weeknights, but there's generally a good crowd on the weekends. I need to be a part of it more often. read more

Don't even bother. I wish I could tell you something about their food and drinks, but I can't because the last two times we have been there, we have walked out. Service here is horrendous. Our first attempt to patronize this bar was on a Sunday for brunch. We walked in, looked around, grabbed two seats at the bar. The place was packed and the food looked good. We were never greeted. We sat at the bar for 15 minutes. Not so much as a hello, no "I will be with you in a minute", nothing. Bartenders were talking to people around us, to each other, but apparently we were invisible. We left and took our money elsewhere. Our second attempt was last night, a Thursday night. We had been to dinner at Pierpont's and decided to grab some cocktails on the way home. Again, we walked in and were never greeted or acknowledged. We grabbed two seats at the bar and sat there, apparently invisible again. This time it was not very busy, the wait staff and bartenders were leaning against the back counter chatting. We were there for 10 minutes watching them chat with each other and get other patrons their drinks. We got up and left again. Someone, please correct me if this is a "help yourself" bar and I am off base. read more

Sure, the atmosphere is pretty chic, but the service is slow (my last visit, I never got my drink at my table at all -- and when I ordered it at the bar instead, the server still didn't realize that he'd completely forgotten to bring it to me at the table). It gets crowded easily, and conversations in the main room tend to get drowned out fast. It's not awful, by any means. But it's... just not my cup of tea -- when it totally should be. read more

I came to 303 with a group for a fabulous friend's fabulous birthday. We were sat in a room off to the side of the main area. The decor was really lovely: candlelight, art hanging on the walls, big cushy seating. The majority of us started off with the Pomegranate Martini, which was absolutely delicious. Those of us who didn't start off with that choice made it their choice on round two. It was tasty. Round two, however, didn't happen very quickly, as our server seemed a tad nonexistent during our whole stay. I'm not sure if he was inexperienced or in the weeds or what, but it was a little annoying. The food wasn't much to write home about. The saving grace was the bruschetta, which is pretty hard to screw up but they do a great version. The pizza I ordered was...blahhhhhhhhhhh. A little undercooked and a little gloppy from the goat, mozzarella and provolone cheeses. The menu as a whole is a little small. Honestly? Come to 303 for the drinks. read more

This is a weekend breakfast/brunch review, only. Two important notes: -being gay is not required to enjoy Bistro 303. I have always felt very comfortable, respected, and at home. I think my status as a breeder is seen by the majority as a head-scratching and curious proclivity. -the sat. And sun. brunch is served until 3pm and though a limited menu, it has continuously been among the most satisfying in kc. You have the chance to reasonably build your plate a la carte, or you can select either the preestablished servings including blueberry pancakes, steak and eggs, or try the often scrumptuous specials of the day. I'm really fond of their cheddar cheese/jalapeno grits in combination with anything else. These guys know how to make a kick-ass cocktail and their little patio is probably my favorite spring weather hideout. Don't tell. read more
