My apartment building has terrible laundry machines so was very happy to find Grand Ave Launderette via Yelp. I just purchased a linen quilt and new sheets for the summer and wanted to give them a good wash so took them to GAL. Stopped by Friday morning and was greeted with friendly smiles and help opening the door. The owners sorted through my items and gave me an estimated price. They also offered me a discount because it was my first time there. The owner wanted to make sure I understood that the linen quilt may be wrinkly, and I was like, "I hope so!" Ha! We also discussed pick-up time. They noted they could get the items to me later that day, but I told them I might have a meeting and asked if I could pick up the next morning. They were very accommodating. Upon pick-up, all of my items were ready and packaged beautifully. I was so happy to have a freshly laundered bed without the headache. A quick note: the hours on Yelp are their typical hours, but they've adjusted them during the pandemic. Friday, they were open 9 AM- 3 PM. read more

Embarrassed at how long it has taken me to write this review since I have been utilizing their services happily since November. Hands down this is the best business I have been to in a long time. The family who owns and runs this company are incredibly kind and caring, and I am so thankful to be able to come to this place and trust that my child's clothes and bedding are cleaned with the utmost care; they even package his little clothes neatly in paper. Oh, the joy it brings me to spend my money here!! Side note: I got locked out of my car one day, and the family made sure I was able to contact AAA. The father even looked out for me until they came. They so appreciated that I was understanding about their circumstances and didn't want to disappoint me as a first-time customer. To say I was touched would be an understatement. These people are so kind - will continue coming back just to give them my business. I never write reviews on yelp, but after stopping in here this morning I knew I needed to! The washer/dryer at my current place is down and I wanted to drop off laundry somewhere local. I found this place on yelp and decided to check it out. When I walked in, the man and woman working worriedly told me that if I wanted to get my laundry done, the turn-around time would be much longer than usually (5-6 days rather than same day or next day). They explained that their dryers are not working to capacity and after several weeks of not being able to get them serviced, they opted to purchase a new dryer which they are waiting to be delivered (estimated to arrive in a few weeks). They wanted to ensure I understood the situation because they didn't want to leave me disappointed and profusely apologized for the inconvenience. They expressed how terrible they felt in not being able to serve their customers in the timely manner they normally are. Because of their kindness and transparency, I wanted to support their business and left a few items for them to clean that I didn't need to have returned ASAP. As small business owners, I can only imagine how stressed they are dealing with mishaps with the equipment they so deeply rely on for their business. Such a gem of a business! My washing machine broke just as my family was getting over Covid. We had 2+ weeks worth of clothes, sheets and bedding for a family of four. I walked in to this lovely shop after reading such a positive yelp reviews. I arrived at noon on Saturday and they very graciously helped me take my laundry out of the car and weighed the whole bunch. It was $81 which I thought was very reasonable considering they turned it all around in 2.5 hours. It was all perfectly clean and folded. They even helped me load it back into the car. This is a wonderful service, at very low prices. We have used them for at least 10 years, primarily wash and dry for bedding and towels that are too big for home machines. They deliver when they promise, they listen carefully to what you want. Quite limited hours but the staff will work with you. Please support them! I met this family in 1983 when I opened Galleria Scola on Grand Ave. down the street from them. I was commuting from Noe Valley to Oakland when there was a "reverse commute". It was such a relief to pick up clean folded clothes at the end of the week without spending hours in a laundromat. I feel very fortunate to share the Grand Lake business community with them. They are hardworking, generous, kind people who renew my down comforter to the original fluffy, fragrant white cover that keeps me warm at night. read more

This is my new favorite laundry/dry cleaning place. The couple that run it are so nice, and very quality-oriented. They inspected all our clothes when the dry cleaning service they use sent them back to make sure they were well-cleaned, send some back to be cleaned again, had it all ready on time, and showed each piece to me when I came to pick them up. Great service for wash and fold. Unlike laundromats that simply happen to offer wash and fold, grand ave launderette will actually hang dry items and they do a very good job of keeping track of everything. I've had issues with other laundromats wash and fold services - detergent stains, lost items, bad customer service - but this place is amazing and the price is comparable to the other places. Everything is always perfect and the people running it are very nice! I love that they wrap the clean clothes in paper instead of plastic. Having just moved in to our Lake Merritt apartment, we desperately needed to do laundry. 2 weeks in to our living here....still hadn't done it. Our laundry in the building apparently is "broken", which means there is some trick to getting it to work, and we haven't learned it yet. Sooo, in need of a clean pair of underwear, we looked for the closest fluff and fold, and found this place. She is great. She was slow today, so we got lucky and got the same day service, even though we brought it in past 11:30. 2 HUGE ikea bags full of laundry, all for $33. I have used them for years, and have been delighted. Very personable and respectful and high quality work. I bring them my shirts, dry cleaning and comforters. I have tried other cleaners on Grand and elsewhere, and either have had problems with those shops or they were impersonal. This place is small and a mom and pop shop -- the kind of businesses that help create the sense of community that helps Grand Ave feel like home. After a vacation to South Africa I was sold on the wash and fold concept and was so excited to find a great one in the neighborhood. My husband drops it off on the way to work and I pick it up on my way home and they even fold my underwear! I took three items of clothing here for dry cleaning. When I received my items back the dress was damaged. It was the first time it was ever cleaned and I have not owned it long enough to have done any damage to it. The jacket didn't look cleaner and though I appreciate they did not lose my items, I know they were mine because they wrote my last name in a piece of paper which they stapled to each item of clothing. I for one do not enjoy having 6 staple holes in my rayon fabric pants. Maybe they're good for laundry, but don't take your dry cleaning here. read more

Even though I wasn't feeling the best, I didn't want my day to be unproductive, so after staring at my pile of laundry and reading what other Yelpers had to say about this place I decided to give it a try. I called at about 9:30a, to verify the price of the fluff 'n fold($1/lb) and to see when my stuff would be ready if I brought it in that day. I was told that if I brought t it in before 12, I could pick it up before the end of the day. Woohooo. That was music to my ears. I packed up all of my jeans, work pants, some tops, and 2 sweater coats and off I went. I found it with no problem, right across from Safeway. I ended up having 33 lbs of stuff. I asked that my sweater coats just be laid to dry. I went back at 5:45p and my clothes were folded in nice lil blue squares. It was like Christmas, unwrapping all these clean clothes. My two sweater coats, were damp, but I expected that since I asked for them to be laid to dry and not put in the dryer. I haven't put all my clothes away, yet, but what I've worn out of my bundles are great. I haven't noticed any shrinkage or any funny business(missing buttons, etc). As I type this and spy my pile of towels, I'll probably be back there to finish up my other stuff tomorrow. Yeah, I'll be back for sure, but i don't know if I'll take my undies there. It's one thing to have someone else wash my pants, but my pantIES that's is a little too personal for me. read more

I walked in happy to pick up my new freshly dry-cleaned clothes. Assuming it would all be fine I collected my items, paid and left the store. When I came home and inspected my clothing... my little black dress has a a different shimmer to it, the color is a little off. My black coat had some white fluffs stuck on it, and hair?!? My skirts and vest turned out the same as before... but I'm a little upset about my dress... On another note, they're pretty cheap, I guess you get what you pay. $3.50 for shirts/skirts/vests and $7 for coats/dresses. Perhaps, dry cleaning isn't really their thing, but it seems they're good with the laundry. read more

I started bringing my massage sheets here about a year ago when the dryer at my apartment needed repair. It was the best thing that ever happened to me. I now come here 3-4 times a week. Every time is a joy. Everything is cleaned, folded, and packaged beautifully. I feel like I get the royal treatment - don't want to say how because I don't think it's possible to treat everyone as well as I get treated - but somehow I suspect most everyone who comes here probably feels the same. I love this place because I hate doing laundry. Its $1 a pound of clothes and that sounds expensive but a huge garbage bag is usually $40. They seperate and fold everything nicely and wrap everything in paper for easy transport. The family that runs it are really nice too and they always have things ready in 24hrs. I've only used these guys a couple of times, but so far they have been great. They are extremely friendly and helpful and their prices are reasonable. I needed to get a button sewn back onto my pants and they did it on the spot for free. Even though they send it out, I use them mainly for dry cleaning because they do such a good job. They got a stain out of my workpants that I swore was going to be impossible to remove. Of course, if you need your dry cleaning the day-of or the next day, these guys won't work for you, since it usually takes about 2-3 business days to get your clothes back. Overall, I don't think you can go wrong picking this place. read more
