The attendant was very helpful but she was the only one working and she could be hard to find. I needed her help getting the machines to work because the doors were finicky on the side load 2-load washers. The machines work on a card specific to them that you load with cash or credit. It's a dollar to get the card, and 3-4 dollars per wash. I would consider this pricey but not outrageous. Don't come here if you're in a rush as the procedures are not very intuitive. This place will get the job done for your laundry and is conveniently located, but that doesn't mean it's a nice or pleasant experience. The parking area is quite small so it's unlikely you'll get a spot during busy times, though there should be spaces at off peak hours. If you're a regular and once you get in your groove and can get in-and-out without needing anything, then sure this place gets the job done. There seems to always be some broken machines, but instead of fixing them, they seem to just put a paper "broken" sign on it indefinitely. Even the ones that do work tend to sometimes leak water out of the side-loading washers (perhaps the seal is not good), so for regulars you learn to memorize which washers are good and which are so-so. For moving clothes around, they have the standard basket on wheels, but patrons tend to horde them and leave something in the basket to "claim" it for the entire duration of their wash and dry cycle even though it's not being utilized. There never seems to be enough, so sometimes you're just out of luck and there's no way to move your clothes to the dryer. If you ever need help for anything, good luck finding anyone who works there. They are never to be found. Overall, as I mentioned, if you're a regular that knows this place in and out and can just do your laundry, then you can usually get the job done from here, but that's about it. read more

This laundromat was originally one of the best ones in the area, but now when I go, it's poorly kept, there's garbage all over, nasty floors, nasty countertops, people sitting on countertops, children climbing on countertops, dirty machines, sludge and gunk in top soap loads, attendant blast radio, machines out-of-order in masse, it's insane. Washers smell like mildew, double loaders always broken, dryers burn holes in clothes. Each Sunday the entitled staff lady takes the sole disabled parking spot all day. Yes she has a placard but does it solely to have convenient access to sit in her jeep all day while her music blasts from her portable speaker inside. At least she makes the bathroom accessible and is friendly and helpful, unlike the consistently rude man working on Saturdays. I keep coming here because it's so walkable and convenient. I really am happy with this wash house, and its the only place that I'll go wash other than my own apartment facility. My only issue is sometimes a few of the dryers inconsistently dry your clothes, leaving some a bit wet over other articles of clothing. It's super clean, the parking isn't excruciating, the attendant is really kind and accommodating, and the other customers aren't insane or weird--in my experience, at least. The only downside is that this is a coin operated laundry, but there is both an ATM and change machine on site to provide cash + quarters. Overall, highly recommended. read more

This is the cheapest laundromat I've found in the area however the other customers who come here are awful. Must be the area this place is located in, people are incredibly rude in this area. First off you have to watch your car in the parking lot, on three different occasions I've witnessed different people bang my car with their doors. The old washer went down last night. Water covered the floor of our basement as the machine creaked and convulsed, spitting screws out in different directions. So we piled our wet laundry in the car and struck out for the nearby coin-op. After being non-plussed by our nearest options, we stopped here. I am so glad we did. This is hands down the cleanest and most efficient laundromat I have ever visited. There are myriad options for load-size and drying times, machines for supplies and snacks, fancy rolling carts, and comfortable seats. Wi-fi is just one more perk to make it that much better. The attendant was so nice and accommodating, letting us stay just a little bit after closing time to get our work done. We'll be back when the hamper is full. read more

My washer broke on a Sunday! Thought of Temescal for a possible location of a laundromat. My hunch worked out. Although busy, I was able to get two washers and two dryers. Thankful they had three fragrance free washers. No fragrance free dryers, though. Ended up getting a wicked headache from the transfer of fragrance from previous persons' dryer sheets. It's clean and the machines are regularly serviced, and they do use a convenient card system that can be refilled by credit card (when it works). And there are lots of great food options nearby. Over the months they seem to have lost a number of laundry carts, so on busy evenings you might wind up carrying your wet laundry armful by armful from washer to dryer. My fiance and I do our laundry here every weekend. This place is super clean (and I mean spotless - I always see staff cleaning every time I am here). All the machines work very well, there are a lot of them, and occasionally if there are 1 or 2 out of service, they are always repaired by the following weekend. There is also tons of counter space for folding your laundry. The variety in size of machines is another one of the best things about this laundromat. They have everything from single-load to 8-load washing machines, and 4 and 8-load dryers. Except at the very busiest times (weekend early afternoon it seems) there always seem to be plenty of machines of various sizes available. The machines, especially the multiple-load machines, are extremely fast. I use a 4-load washer on "heavy soil" and 8-load dryer and the entire laundry experience takes about 1hr 15min. The MOST important thing to me as a person with severe skin allergies & chemical sensitivities is that they have two 4-load washing machines dedicated to fragrance-free detergent, and it seems most of the customers respect the "no perfume" signs. Other cool things I want to mention: -signage in both English & Spanish -bus stop right out front (6 & 800) -free parking lot out front for customers, although it does fill up at busy times -very friendly & patient staff, even when customers are being rude -vending machines with snacks, drinks, laundry supplies like detergent & laundry bags -very clean single-stall restroom for customers -takes credit cards (you can purchase/add money to your laundry card using either cash or credit card) -there is a convenience store with a nice alcohol selection right across the street (U&I Liquor & Grocery), and there are also a bunch of shops/restaurants/bars in the immediate area if you want to do something while your laundry is in the machines There are certainly cheaper places around, but this place is a great value for what you get. read more

This is literally the best laundromat in Oakland. The staff is great and keeps the place is spotless. There is parking. They use reloadable cards that are free. Deposit a dollar and get a new card loaded with a dollar. The cards can be registered so that if you lose it they can transfer your money to a new card. You can reload cards with a credit card if you need to. The prices are even cheaper than my buildings washer and dryer which uses quarters. The best part is on Thursday dryers are free. I have used several laundromats around Oakland and Berkeley and this place is legit. It's also close to Temescal Alley and tons of other shops. Just set a timer and head out to get a bite or browse. People complaining about the card are being short sighted. It's like a Starbucks card for laundry. If you want to deal with change and grimy laundromats in blah areas at 12 am then go somewhere else. If you want a clean place with reliable employees to make your regular laundromat and like not scrounging for change than this place is for you. read more

Web site is down. Called them to confirm. Phone has been disconnected. So just wen by since they were close. Lugged my stuff in. And of course, there was no attendant. I agree with recent reviews that mention the "wash and fold service" that has taken over this location but want to clarify that the takeover is by a company (an app actually) called "Washio" which is an Uber-like personal laundry service. The blame goes to the owner of this laundromat who agreed to allow Washio to use this location for their services. They presumably pay him a monthly fee and in exchange they get to use (most of) the washers and dryers to serve their customers. The Washio crew also uses an empty space a few doors down for their folding, etc. so they are constantly running back and forth hauling those red bins. The Washio people typically use at least 50% of the washers and dryers which is extremely inconvenient to anyone who just wants to come in and do their laundry. I happen to find it extremely rude and greedy of the owner of this laundromat to sell out like this -- he obviously cares more about the money from Washio than having happy individual customers. One last thing: I happen to know that some of the permanent staff members here (who were here long before the Washio deal went down) are also very frustrated by the situation. Supposedly there is a new location being built out where the Washio people will move to, but I'll believe that when I see it. read more

This place is nothing short of amazing. The folks who run the place are super friendly and helpful. The manager always has the place in spotless conditions, every time I go he's either mopping, sweeping or doing some other task to keep the place clean. There are plenty of machines and even some "scent free" designated ones. To wash you need a laundry card and you don't even need cash to reload the thing, the machines take credit/debit cards. Very helpful if you're not the type that has dollar bills/change on hand. Also, there are vending machines on site if you get hungry and want a small snack. The laundromat opens at 7am, last wash is at 8 pm and it closes at 9 pm. read more

I used to do my laundry here, despite slightly higher prices because they have reliable machines and a clean facility. But recently, I had a few items of hand wash items that I wanted to do in their restroom while the rest of my laundry was running, and the worker there started yelling and threatening me. There was no sign prohibiting doing hand wash in the sink, but from the moment the evening attendant came in to talk to me about it he threatened to call his boss and was extremely hostile and rude. Knocking off a star because the place has become a victim of its own success, unfortunately. I can only do laundry on weekends but when I go in first thing in the AM, three-quarters of the machines are occupied with their wash-n-fold service - the red bins were EVERYWHERE. ALL of the single and double-load machines are typically in use and I get stuck either waiting 30 minutes for them to open up (assuming I can beat the staff to the machine) or pay $5 for a quad load machine for my single load of stuff - a waste of water as well as money! I brought the issue up with staff and was met with total indifference. With all that wash-n-fold money coming in, they couldn't give a damn about some schmuck with just a small hamper of stuff to run. I wish they'd manage their loads better - maybe run some of the service stuff outside of regular hours, before opening or after closing? As it is, I'm either going to have to find a new laundromat or become part of the problem and drop my stuff off... :( Ps, apparently the wash and fold biz is coming from the cleaners next door? This is by far the most convenient place to wash my clothes with cleanest facilities. However this evening the staff here was so incredibly rude I will never return to this laundromat again. The attendant on Saturday night February 2nd locks everyone in after hours. It's unsafe. There is an exit button so it can be locked from the outside but instead locks everyone in. I left to get food and he left me locked standing outside telling me to calm down before letting me in. He also swore at me. Again totally unprofessional and unsafe and I will never return. Their hours are bull shit. they just turned me away at 8:30 for something I needed washed by Monday

The staff is not vigilant at all about hygiene during covid. They require patrons to wear masks, but I saw an employee not wearing a mask, talking on the phone for at least 20 minutes inside, while wiping down the machines. Several other patrons were not wearing their masks properly (either pulled down by their chin, or not covering their nose). I would've left right away, had I not already put my clothes in the machines. I will not be returning. read more

New place (I think it used to be "Launderland"). I received a Grand Opening flyer in July and tried it out during a dry-for-free promotion. The place is clean and has new modern machines. Payment is by prefill cards. There was an attentive and helpful person there showing people how to use the machines and fill cards. Pretty nice place and, especially as it is so close to me, I'll be back again. Also, there is free wi-fi, a Wash & Fold Service (7am - 9pm, 7 days a week) and they have a late night discount (I'm not sure on the hours, but after midnight, I believe). read more

It's my first time in a laundromat and I've got to say it's not half bad. It's clean in here and everyone seems normal. Advice: Bring cash if you want snacks because I really want the kerns mango juice in the vending machine but I have no cash. Read the signs that say how many loads each machine can handle. Tuesday at 6 pm. Not too busy. This is my first time here and they use credit cards instead of quarters! This is the first laundromat I've been to that finally used this system and its soooo easy. Besides that, the place is really clean and so is the bathroom. There was an attendant available as well and he graciously helped me with the credit card transaction thingy. The machines are clean and there's plenty of them too. A bonus is the location and lots of amazing restaurants nearby! They also have a parking area, which is a plus. It's sad to go back to the laundromat lifestyle after years of living in places with a washer and dryer, but those are the breaks. Luckily, the laundromat closest to my place is the best - always clean and never that busy unless you go on the weekends. Their wash and fold service is great and fast. However, be warned that they use a heavily scented detergent. You can bring your own if you have a preference. But they do a fantastic job! This is a family-run spot and the owner and his family are always around. Sometimes the kids are a little loud. It's really not a big deal. read more

This place used to be the best place to wash. It went from 5 stars to almost no stars. It seems the service is no longer a public walk-in wash and dry. There is no longer any respect for walk-in customers. It seems to have geared it's services to wash-and-fold service. There are red bins everywhere coming from next door. When you think you have a washer or dryer next, the red bin goes in instead. For the past 6 months, I find myself waiting long periods to wash and dry. Today I was so frustrated with all the red bins on just about every washer and dryer. I didn't wash any of my things here today. I refuse to use a 6 load to wash a single or double load. I don't write reviews, but I knew that I could not abide the 3-star rating Temescal Wash and Dry has now. I've been going here weekly (or, to tell the truth, every other week) for a couple of years; it's a block away from my apartment, it's clean, and quiet. I'll start by addressing these one-star reviews dated 2014 and 2015. I first came here around Feb. 2015, and since then, I have yet to see a sectioned-off portion of the washers/dryers for the next-door business. It must be that their business practices changed, because I have no consistent laundry schedule: I've done laundry in the middle of the day on a weekday, late at night, and during the weekend. [Of course, this place is most busy during the weekends.] By all faculties of reason, I would have seen these problems at least once--but I have not. As for the parking, I believe that they've loosened up their regulation. I'm not quite sure about the relationship between this business and the one next-door, but I have only been told to move two or three times back in early/mid-2015. I've looked the owner of the next-door business dead in the eye as I carry my loads in, so it's not his neglect that saved my ass. So, my review. What do you want? It's a laundromat. Clean, bright, easy-to-use machines that are fairly priced. I spend about $20 doing a heavy load of whites and another one of colors, then drying them together for ~35-45 minutes in the large dryer. The receipt printer on one of the card-loading machines hasn't worked since Methuselah was born, but I don't mind. The rare times in which something went wrong, I was able to find the attendant immediately. Once, she even let me borrow a cart on good faith alone. I'm not saying that you should make a friggin' Hajj just to dump your clothes here, but it's noticeably better than the other laundromats in the neighborhood. For me, it's the best. read more
