Amazing boxing gym, clean space and great/ friendly staff. My go to boxing gym for classes

This is a fantastic place to check out if you want excellent personal training without having to compete/wait for equipment at a normal gym. It is a relaxing and enjoyable environment to work out in and kept extremely clean (and it doesn't stink!). This gym is brand spanking new with excellent equipment and a boxing ring. There is a great vibe here for working out, whether you're a woman or a dude. As the former, I was worried that this would be an intimidating, muscle man gym where I'd feel uncomfortable as the only woman working out. Instead, it's a really inclusive scene with lots of women as well as men, and everyone is polite and respectful. The owner Lenny is very friendly and accommodating, and offers some great specials to first-timers. I worked out with Antonio and he was the bomb. A perfect mix of keeping it playful and fun, and kicking my ass in a good way. Definitely the best personal trainer I've ever worked out with. I bought a 8 class package on Living social and afterwards i was hooked. I come here for the boot camp classes. My usual workout consisted of simply running a lot mixed with a little bit of weight training and sit ups/crunches and so I was looking for something different to mix it up. I find a lot of of the classes offered at large gyms (nyse/equinox/etc) either too easy or too boring and so wanted something more challenging. They say be careful what you wish for and boy did i get my butt kicked during these classes! The instructors are great and they keep the classes small so everyone gets personalized attention. I've already bought and used another 10 class package at full price and am planning to buy another package tomorrow. Sign up for the classes! you won't regret it. read more

Brian Daniels and I have been training at Work for a few months now and it has been a truly great and rewarding experience. The gym itself is clean, never too busy, and always in working order. My free training session was with Kate and she is great! She takes her time and all of her attention is on you. Everyone comes here to do their thing & the staff is very nice and professional and the men dont make u feel uncomfortable like other places. I took my first bootcamp class with Kate yesterday and she kicked my a** but this morning although a little sore, i feel great. I was hooked on this place from the first time i went. I loved it and signed up for more because it was a special but then after that I just couldn't afford it anymore but the prices are good. I found this place because I bought a deal on gilt city. And, I don't really work out, & I figured if I bought a package, it would force me to move my bumm! So, my first class was with Katelyn, & she really worked us out, & I had a lot of fun, & she is very friendly. I also took classes with Melissa, & she's also awesome! I came to WTF to get into Boxing in a non-intimidating environment. Initially I started with boxing-bootcamp classes, and eventually moved to personalized one-on-one boxing classes... this place is great. I'm a weekly bootcamp attendee. The instructors are amazingly friendly and fun, and they'll give you a killer workout. The location is decently clean, though my one complaint is that it is a bit cramped in there as a lot is always going on. NOTE: This should be solved somewhat as they're expanding into the space next door. My only wish was for them to have a bigger men's changing/shower area (more shower stalls) and more lockers/bigger locker area - that is definitely cramped and the lockers get taken pretty quickly. I found WTF through a promotional offer and thought I'd give it a try. The classes were amazing, as I went from out of shape to in shape, I always felt like i was getting an amazing work out and always being pushed to train harder than before. I only took the classes and even though they were usually packed, there was always room to do everything you needed to do in the class. The instructors are amazing, they watch each student and come over and assist to ensure you are performing the moves properly and to avoid any chance of injury. If you aren't up to a certain level of fitness, they will give you a simpler option that will still make you feel like you had a great work out. I recently moved out of the NYC area and these classes are what I miss most from moving. read more

Started boxing for a cardio workout about 6 weeks ago. Stopped by WTF a few weeks ago using my fitreserve membership and I've been hooked (no pun intended) ever since. Tried out a few different boxing gyms around the city before coming here (title, church street, overthrow) and WTF knocks them all out (pun intended) great facilities, great trainers, and most importantly, a great workout every time. I've signed up for the full monthly membership and I've been taking 4-5 classes a week. The trainers here really focus on teaching you proper technique and form which is what I was really looking for. Group classes have about 15-20 people but you get plenty of 1-1 time with them. I took the box group intermediate with Alberto "El Jefe" today and learned more about proper technique and form in an hour than I did in all my classes at title boxing combined. And at the end of the class my shirt felt like I just jumped in a swimming pool. The place is always packed and full of energy. Think I've found my new gym home. Also - if you're brand new to boxing I recommend taking one of their semi-private classes to start so you can learn the basics because it can be a bit hard to keep up if you've never done it before. read more

Work Train Fight is an amazing gym! The Box WORK class is a killer workout, and is a great combination of cardio, strength training and boxing exercises. My favorite instructors are Eric, Abel, Katelyn and Prashant, but I've honestly never had a bad workout here. The experience can be a bit intimidating if you're new to boxing, so I'd recommend showing up a bit early to get your wraps on and ask any questions. I especially like that if you are a regular, then the gym really starts to feel like a community. You get to know people who attend the same classes as you, and bond with the trainers a bit more. A lot of trainers have a very 'tough love' attitude and treat the class like a bootcamp, which really pushes me but may not work as well for everyone. The one drawback is if you have a membership, you have to pay a $10 cancellation fee for backing out of a class within 6 hours. I understand that spots are limited and it's a good incentive to show up, but I think you should have 1-2 'free' no-shows a month in case of emergencies. read more

I love the atmosphere at WorkTrainFight. It's a ready to work, be motivated, no bs let's punch some sh-- fitness home. I've been a member for about a year now after my best friend asked me to check it out. I wasn't even looking for anything remotely "gym-like" at the time, was more into yoga. I tell you I couldn't be any happier that he introduced me to the WTF community. The trainers are super knowledgeable in their craft and actually take the time, even in large group classes to focus on technique. I've been to many decent boxing/kickboxing facilities where all group classes have the same lesson plan and have lack of attention to form. The trainers at WTF, specifically Box WORK and WORK classes that I've attended, all give you different styles of technique and teaching. Never leaving you bored or expecting repetition. These styles encourage you to grow better at your craft, understand your limits and build confidence. If you prefer smaller group classes but cannot commit to personal training, I recommend taking semi- PT sessions which give you a more technical training into boxing and HIIT workouts than group. With a maximum of 4 people to a session, your trainer still pushes you and caters to your individual needs. Plus you get the perk of encouragement from your fellow trainees. Don't expect "easy" as this gym is not about faking or quick promises. They keep it real and remind patrons nothing worth it comes easy. I've never left a class disappointed nor have I ever been made to feel like I should give up. Your classmates won't let you do that either. That's the vibe you get. In fact, WTF applauds and motivates your hard work while making your form and health the priority. I can recommend a number of trainers who are awesome (I have trained with a lot), but they all bring it and all have amazing energy. This is a community of wellness and growth with some tough love. Expect to work hard at any level of fitness as your limits will be challenged both physically and mentally. Trust me, after each visit, you will leave a much stronger person. read more

I really loved working out here. Their classes are really fun and the staff is lovely. But they have become so expensive this year that I can no longer afford to work out here. 8 classes used to be $160 but it jumped to $220. They have great promotions for new people but don't seem to care as much about long term clients. read more

I've been taking classes at WTF for about 6 months now through Classpass. The box work classes are still challenging for me and I work out most days of the week. Lots of plyometrics, some boxing and a good mix of cardio. The work fight classes are even more challenging with a ton of cardio. The box group class is also really great and focuses on technique a little bit more- but still a lot of cardio. I've worked out at tons of studios in the city and this is still one of my favorites. Some instructors are better than others (like most gyms) and I think that Alberto's classes are by far the most challenging and the best. Also, the guys that work at the studio and teach the classes are really nice and helpful. read more

When I had ClassPass, I went on a boxing-binge and tried all the gyms in the city. Sidenote: I hate cult gyms. I think every new customer should be treated like a continuing guest. WTF is by far my fav of the boxing clan. It's clean, but not too clean (you need a little Rocky grunge). I took a few classes with Victor and did a 1-on-1 with him. Personals can be pricey, but it's the best way to learn proper stances and moves. If I was balling out, I would get a membership here. $$$ read more

I can't help but come back for more, this is just what the doctor ordered. I love the feeling of knowing I'm getting the workout/ training I need hence my sore arse the following day. I've been going for about 2-months now and can already see the improvement, mentally and physically. The boot camp is awesome, it offers a variety of exercises that works just the right areas, all the while effectively promoting muscle confusion. I started coming to Work Train Fight a few months ago to try to get back in shape after my first kid. I was interested in trying kickboxing and was lucky enough to get paired up with Jean Chancy, who is an active Muay Thai fighter. I had tried out a number of big name boxing gyms in the lower Manhattan area before I tried WTF, but didn't click with the trainer I was paired with, didn't like the gym, etc. But that's not how I felt about WTF or Chancy. First,I have never felt intimated or judged at WTF - there are people of every level and the staff are all very nice and helpful. Chancy in particular is wonderful. Other trainers I had met with before I tried WTF knew I was a beginner and treated me like a beginner. He knows I'm a beginner, but from day 1 challenged me, working with my skill set. Chancy is also very patient. He doesn't make me feel like I am not catching on quickly enough so I feel like I'm actually learning. If he sees I'm frustrated or having issues with a particular skill we work on it and try different "drills" for lack of a better word, to help me get better. It's not always all about speed or how hard I can kick or punch, but first about technique so that when I do speed up I'm punching or kicking correctly. In short, Chancy is very knowledgable about the sport, is very skilled at the sport, and is still able to teach and work with people of different levels. He makes it fun and I look forward to going every week. Any he's pretty funny too! An additional plus is that I found WTF to be very affordable and flexible. For personal sessions you can buy single sessions or blocks of sessions - well worth to bulk up because I'm sure you'll go back! Most unpretentious boxing club I have found in the area. read more

Here is everything I love about WORK gym in bullet points - my trainer Cliff is the man! Kind, motivational, and hilarious ... And knows how to make me look slammin'. He is extremely educated and listens to every request I have. Don't wonder who you should train with just train with cliff now! - guys at the desk.. Always the kindest dudes. I've been taking one-on-one training sessions at WTF for almost a year and a half now. Since my first discussion with my trainer and the moment I walked in, I was treated with the highest level of professionalism. Although this was my first time trying kicking boxing, Jean Chancy made me feel very comfortable about training at the gym and the one-on-one training sessions. I'm always given clear instructions about the proper use of the equipment (which is in good order) and provided with clear feedback on the fundamentals and workout routines. Jean is great. You will leave each workout drenched and feeling good about accomplishing his high intensity routines. Not only that, he is professional and is flexible in scheduling workouts. The gym is a bit small with lockers out in the open, but I understand it's expanding. read more

I joined Work Train Fight a little over 2 years ago and I'm so happy I decided to try something new back then. I was stuck in a fitness rut and use to just get by putting in minimal effort. Going to the gym, no trainer, basic boring cardio routine. But since joining Work Train Fight, my health and fitness journey was taken to another level. It started with boxing boot-camps and personal training with Brian Daniels and eventually personal training with the boss himself, Alberto Ortiz . Not only has my body changed but I feel good inside and out. My energy is super high, I feel strong, positive and confident. The enthusiasm for health and fitness from my Work Train Fight fitness family has been life changing. And I'm in better shape at age 37 then I was at 27! With 3 1/2 hours to kill every Saturday morning in NoHo I decided the best course of action was to join a gym. I did so but after each session I walked Broadway and saw folks in and out of a particular building and they looked like they were working out. Looked up one day and saw people boxing in the window. I went in and inquired about classes. First thing when I walked in I was greeted by Omar. Such a pleasant guy. Also felt like I was walking into a serious boxing gym with a hip-hop modern twist. Folks everywhere working out. Sis and I took a quick tour with Omar and signed up for a free bootcamp the following Saturday. No stranger to boot camps but it has been a while and I have never boxed. Came in on my selected day/time and again Omar was there. Greeted us and remembered us. There was also another young lady there waiting for the class. Sooooo friendly and definitely made the experience that less intimidating. Anyway, took the class and it was AWESOME! 5 mins in I wondered what the heck I had gotten myself into. I was drenched and my legs, which were still in recovery from weighted squats and hip thrusts the night before, were screaming but I pushed through. The 9:30 a.m class had about 11 people. Music was great. Instructor was awesome ( forgot his name but he was not the regular - he mentioned at beginning of class). We did a little of everything: boxing, squats (bloody hell), weights, lunges, TRX etc. Bathroom was small but clean. Lockers were a great size. There are shirts and sweaters etc available for sale that I am tempted to buy but I think I'll wait until I can proudly say I'm a regular. Needless to say I signed up for 5 additional classes. This is the best personal training place to check out. It has everything you need to work out. Plus everyone is awesome.

WTF is their slogain- it should really say ' WTF am I doing here not Work, Train, Fight". The front desk person is extremely dismissive. The instructor got to class 5 minutes late and didn't have the decency to apologized. He asked me if I had any injuries which I said that I had lower back pain or a light hearing loss- so I need extra direction/time. The class was loud which is fine till you realize there is no real instructions. They won't help you with your wraps which is odd because they help prevent injuries. He just start bounding up and down. While we did our non-boxing exercises he dance around and never once correct forms. We did 6 minutes of boxing his only explanation was one, two, three I told him I never done boxing so 1,2,3 means nothing to me. He got upset. by the second time he started making fun of the fact I can't hear- WTF!! I was shocked a person would make fun of a person disability. Not a place I will return. read more

I think the bootcamp classes are great! In a nutshell... For 45 min straight you will do jumping jacks, jump rope, burpees, planks, leg lifts, squats, high knees....pretty much all the exercises that are going to whip your booty in shape. And the trainers are great. They are full of energy, encouraging, and they are always changing their routines. I'm addicted. I got a coupon, but beware if you're like me and want to sweat and see results.... You're going to sign up for more. But hey your body is an investment, and I definitely think it's worth the money! read more

It's taken me too long to write this review! Work Train Fight is the best boxing gym in the city (and I've tried them all). I personally come for the intense cardio and mental / physical push I feel during each class. The staff of experienced trainers is professional, pleasant, humorous, and always welcoming. The music is great, and the energy is upbeat, active, and positive. Classes are organized and structured, offering techniques and training for every level. You will have a chance to warm-up, do calisthenics, circuit training, work on the bags, and box with your instructor. The recent expansion and renovation has made the experience even better. I've been doing personal training at this gym for years. 5 stars for the location and staff. 2 stars for the facility. Some boxing classes can be so loud and crazy packed to the point that I put in ear plugs while I'm training. I hope they expand the space and keep the boxing & weight training areas further apart. There can be an intense odor from the sweaty body count which might be unavoidable, and they constantly run out of fountain water. Choose your training times carefully. read more

LOVE this place! (They deserve every single star. I don't believe in 5 stars since there is no such thing as perfection. :D) This was my review from yesterday but I've included an update after attending class this afternoon. This review is strictly based on service, cleanliness, space and the classes only. I have not taken any personal training classes although I bet they are just as amazing!! Of the 4 times I've been here for the boxing classes that I bought through Groupon has been a really good experience. The space for the classes is a bit small but still totally doable. It's enough space for everyone to not feel as if you're about to elbow someone. lol Everyone is friendly, from the instructors, to the students to the owner himself. Plus, there are no glaring eyes. ...(The classes are organized like a bell curve.. warm-up in the beginning followed by the WORK aspect, then props then cool down..) In fact, I called them yesterday since I had a problem with scheduling my classes online without realizing that the time for me to redeem them had expired already :(,and I was transferred to Alberto Ortiz (did not know he was the owner until now while reading the website's bio!) who was soooo nice to extend the redemption of classes for another 1.5 months without any problems. I've even had a trainer introduce himself to me on my first visit although I wasn't taking any personal training classes. The ladies room is clean- there are towels, paper towels, (sanitizer too I think I remember), soap, showers, hair dryers, mouthwash, q-tips, lockers and good sized mirrors to get pretty after a good work out. I've taken 2 classes with Donovan and I think 2 classes with Katelyn. Kate is really sweet and has the patience to correct you. Donovan is just as lovely. He really makes you WORK and he's great with correcting your moves as well. Btw, I love his music selection too (HIP-HOP!) I've left the class drenched in SWEAT. In class, I'll be dripping, I mean DRIPPING in sweat. That's how much they make you WORK! Hence, BOX N WORK. Love it! I'm definitely happy to have found a great place where people are friendly, the instructors are GREAT and the location is perfect for me. Looking forward to tomorrow's class! As of today, I came back and noticed that they've expanded! (The door placement changed as it used to be straight across from the elevator). I know someone below already wrote this, but this gym IS everything. There are plenty of options class and trainer-wise so there is something for everyone. Whether you are a complete beginner who wants to actually learn how to box or if you're experienced and want to get a challenging workout in, you can definitely find what works for you at WTF. Either way, you WILL get an awesome workout in and you will most likely cry tears of sweat - just saying. I highly recommend any of the WORK classes if you're looking for an overall challenging workout. Those classes always incorporate a lot of cardio and circuit-based strength-training with weights/KBs/gliders/etc. AKA you will be sore af, but it'll be great. Everyone who works at WTF is super friendly and all the trainers are cool, but I always recommend Amber. My friend and I have been doing personal training with her for about a year now and she really is the best. She constantly kicks our ass and has really helped us to increase our strength and endurance. If you can't make it to a PT session, her group classes are a lot of fun and still a really challenging workout. She kicks your ass to 2000's hip hop and teaches you how to throw a better cross. On top of that, just like everyone else has been saying, the community at WTF is what makes everything come together - it's always a good time and everyone is genuinely friendly and welcoming. I love WTF! This review is for personal training - I have not taken a boxing class here but they look like a fun tough workout. I train with Elena and she is a total pro, on top of being a fun person to be around - even when she's kicking my a**! She really knows her stuff and is a bulldog for proper form. She has been helping me get in Wedding Shape over the past year, and I've had steady, consistent, healthy results without feeling deprived or overworked. There is always awesome energy in the gym - it's my favorite part about working out here. Usually pretty full of people after work which adds to the energy, but not overly crowded. Everyone manages to share the space well. I also have a membership at NYSC, where I can always get a great workout, but there is way more of a sense of community at WTF. Highly recommend. read more

This place is perfect! I've been a member at WTF for over 2 years. I've been to a handful of boxing gyms in NYC and they were either too dirty and grimy or too trendy for me. Work Train Fight is clean, the trainers and employees are beyond helpful and friendly. I've never been to a place that has welcomed a new member and made them feel comfortable like WTF does. The classes are challenging, but great because you can go at your own pace too. If you're having an off day or have a injury, the trainers will allow you to modify the exercise. Plus, if you're a member of WTF you get access to the rest of the gym including squat racks, free weights, cables, etc. And the owner, Alberto has a huge heart and constantly giving back to the community or running charitable events. It's great to be apart of something more than "just a gym." I've never felt more at home at a gym than I do when I'm at Work Train Fight. read more

I started taking the Bootcamp Classes in January 2012, three times per week. I have lost 20lbs in three months thanks to WORK!! The classes are challenging, and keep me motivated. The instructors are very encouraging and i like that the classes are pretty small so you get personal attention. The gym itself is clean, comfortable and not intimidating. I would highly recommend these classes to anyone who is trying to lose weight or just get in shape. read more
