The services are totally useless. I had been to workforce1 centers in Manhattan. The Bronx and Queens, the staff members may have seemed to be polite, but I found those centers to be not very helpful. Based on my experiences with these facilities, it would be in your best interest to do the job search on your own endeavors. Forcing people into the worst, lowest paying jobs the city has to offer. They are in the pocket of big business. I applied for a job at a different WF1. I was told to call this Workforce1 and make an appointment for an interview. They only had a few appointments left. I thought I was lucky. I was so wrong. Two weeks later, my appoinment arrived. I got there early and discovered that over a hundred people were there to interview for the same job. Appointments were completely ignored. I was forced to sit in 3 different waiting rooms for 7 hours past my appointment time while people who didn't have appointments were interviewed. It was obvious there wasn't going to be time to interview us all, so they started doing group interviews where we had to compete for attention. By the time I made it to a group interview, it was obvious that the interviewers were exhausted and had already decided who to hire. We had no chance at all. read more

I have to agree with the majority of negative reviews on Workforce1. Not only did I go in person to three different locations Staten Island, Brooklyn and Manhattan but no jobs have come out of it and I have a college degree and a s load of diverse experience in the workplace. I would only suggest people come here for use of the computer and free resume printing and if they are interested in receiving vouchers for free educational certifications. If you qualify and pass assessment, you can get a voucher. They also have a bunch of flyers at the center with free computer education and help centers but keep this in mind many of the social service centers do not help you. If your circumstance is that you have no income coming in, they won't assist you with rent payment until you are in arears which means basically you can get evicted if you are on a month to month lease. The system is set up trecherously against those that are borderline, another words if they could help you for a few months with certain payments that could be enough to help you get back on track. I had someone at the Brooklyn Center tell me that no one was there to speak with me and this was four days before the holiday. Well if no one is there to speak with me why the hell are you even open? Let's not even get into the absolute stupidity that certain workforce's only deal with certain types of employment which is ludicrous!! When I went to the WF center in downtown Manhattan, they won't help you unless you are looking for medical employment and the only other WF center is all the way up on 125th street. The stupidity of this center being located in the heart of the financial center at 14 Wall Street and offering no jobs in financial or office work is absurd. read more

Even though I'm reviewing a specific facility, this critique can be applied to every Workforce One "career center," which is probably the most misleading description of this business that they could have possibly chosen. As other Yelpers have noted, almost all of the available positions are in low end retail, which in itself is not necessarily a bad thing. What I object to though is the patently false impression this agency gives prospective job-seekers, i.e. that utilizing its resources will somehow advance their job search. Spoiler Alert: It won't. In fact, it will probably hinder it. Workforce One is essentially a taxpayer-funded nonprofit that earns a cut from every person it places in one of the lackluster jobs offered by its clients. Attending a generic job fair is equally efficacious, which should tell you something about how utterly useless Workforce 1 is. In fact, applying directly to the company itself is preferable-there's absolutely no reason you need a middleman to direct you to jobs which are advertised on company websites and classified listings. Even worse, some of the jobs advertised are not even legitimate businesses. Appco Group, for example, is a multi-level marketing scheme. When I pressed one of the Workforce 1 employees on this, she insisted that it was a legitimate business, despite being the equivalent of a pyramid scheme. Aside from a place to photocopy copies of your resume, there's virtually no redeeming feature of this organization. John Stossel explored the deficiencies of Workforce 1 in a lengthy episode targeting failed government and quasi-government programs-I highly recommend watching it for a realistic appraisal of this organization. They mostly offer jobs a little above minimum wage such as: retail, security, home health aide, and a survey job where they will offer you $7.25 an hour. In addition, there are people there that are rude and will have you waiting some where, while they have personal conversations with one another. I find this office lacking in confidential for customer's private personal information. Personal questions are asked out in front of a room of other job seekers to hear. Once folks have your name & social security even the last 4 digits they can do anything. Even take a quick photo making an illegal document. Also perfect for identity theft. Yah just can't trust anyone. As you enter on a small information line your asked for everyone to hear for your last 4 digits of your social security & your name. On the job application your asked for your full date of birth. The 1st reviewer is eliminating pre senior candidates, because l was one of them that was quickly told this job is not for you. The job for Usher/Ticket Clerk, A minor can do. The position was listed as full or part time. While others gasped at the askers attitude. He seemed to be annoyed because l was their. I was not embarrased & spoke up firmly. I told him, l can do that job. I'm fit, ready to work, beautiful, smart & a very hard worker. I wouldn't be here if l didnot think l could do the job. It's discrimination, flat out. Also the 311 Call Center position, l showed interest in & was told " NO ". If you only speak english, your counted out. Their looking for bilingual language speakers for customer service jobs. Also I was not the oldest person in the room, at least 5 were around the same age. I had an excellent Resume with many years of qualified experience. I find this office singling out the younger generation is in very high demand & highly selected for their chosen jobs. Critique staff members can target their victims. The pre aplication reviewer tagged my 2 page resume & called me out 3rd telling me in front of 50 people. I should not be there for the job l wanted but go out the room & speak to someone else about clerical office work. I was sent away because l'm a pre senior. The next man lied & told me on the same day he would email me a special job interviewers link that l was a perfect fit. This office also will send you out the same day to the job site for the job position. I was also told theirs no part time positions, but the job was listed as such. I received " Nothing " by email. This office is only interested in teaching weekly training classes, every other word was about the perfect " RESUME ", also upgrading Resumes & grant assistance. The work force 1 centers are what YOU make of them. They actually have a superb stock of resources. Five years ago I went in expecting them to find me a job. The interviews they were sending me on were jobs I could have found on my own. So I stopped going & found a job on my own/independently, They offer career counseling, resume help & updating or interview coaching- which I didnt need. But this is wonderful for those new to, or returning to the work force. The facility is state of the arts, very clean & modern with all the current softwares. Its a busy place & people come there for different reasons. Ive seen inexperienced & ghetto people in the waiting area getting anxious and distracted & frustrated by the overwhelming traffic. These are sometimes the same people with no work experience but either want an advanced grant or to apply for the same position as some one with 15 years in their field. Thats unrealistic. Work force 1 offers several training programs in order to build skills & make some one a more attractive candidate/job seeker. From what ive seen/heard from my visits is that most people naively expect to walk in, and walk out employed with a great high paying job, whether they have the credentials or not. Ive also seen incidents of highly skilled/educated people offered marginal positions. The job counselors mostly try to place people in jobs ASAP. There is a difference between a job and a career. Apart from the classes they offer I was pleasantly surprised they offer FREE I.T.G grants if you have experience in the desired field & can pass a test. FREE classes FREE grants for continuing education classes at various accredited school to make more money in the future!! I just got my COMPLETE medical course- tuition paid for. Now im a step closer to becoming an R.N The thing is that the majority disgruntled customers are the many patrons that are sent to workforce 1 by welfare, or the unemployment office. Many people run in with fire under their feet, obvious overwrought needs of financial stability and answers. People constantly over look the classes, and other resources they have. The head of the medical and nurse assistant school that I graduated from advised me of applying for the grant. I never previously knew that Work force 1 offered tuition/grants and so many resourceful classes. Dont overlook their classes . Education helps you get a better job + career. read more

Its completely horrible and wasting my time I've been Workforce 1 membership "06" every time i've tried to apply for a job suddenly they doing waiting and group interview to speed up selecting 5 candidate and sending them on job site with referral and the rest have to wait for email or phone call within within a week 1. They make you choose one job for the group interview and expose your interview skill in public with members (NO PRIVATE INTERVIEW) 2. Horrible workshop as Resume, Cover Letter and Interview. 3. Workforce staff are completely rude and never smile to every current, new or old members. 4. If you are trying to apply for the specific job you want. they gonna tell you have to apply online. 5. Hiring Employers never show up for face to face interview only recruiter talk to you or everyone. 6. All jobs only "No Experience" and they will reject with experience. 7. Computer Room space is limited 8. All Borough Workforce location are the same and horrible service. 9. Inexperience Staff and rude service. 10. Seasonal Jobs and rarely permanent Jobs only. I wanted to give this location a -3 stars but it wasn't an option. I had two bad experiences with this location. The first incident was that I was setup for an interview last month with the detail of the interview via email. I showed up at the given location and I was told that there's no interview and that I go to Bond Street for further guidance. Fast forward to today I had another interview this time at the Bond Street location. The person that was supposed to interview didn't show up to work because of an illness which I wasn't informed when I checked in. Also this individual didn't explain to me in detail the whole interview process for this particular job. In 2012 this workforce 1 wasn't to shabby a little unorganized but it was much faster. I also got a job through this center last summer. But now OMG This year is horrible one they tell you, you must be in there on time but don't start the recruitment events until like an hour later i'm not exaggerating either if you come at 1:30pm expect to be out at 4:00pm it's that deep. Also they always put the active members in with the new members and every time you go you have to hear the sammmmmeeee ol' speech over and over again about what workforce 1 is, and blah,blah,blah.I Know what workforce 1 is already cause I been here so many damn time and heard this speech. They need to just have active members in it's own room that's it. Then I had account managers say they were going to e-mail me an interview date never received one, Last year the man told me I was going to get an interview date got one the same day. Like they need to be more organized and more efficient. This is a great program I love it but the account managers is just not there. I've gone to every workforce one center for the exception of the brooklyn one but i couldnt find the others so i will write my review here: Usually the front desk people are almost always rude and look like their face has a rule against smiling behind the desk because they look so uptight and miserable. The staten island workforce one has this woman that is so rude and is always huffing and puffing and talks down to anyone who approaches her upon entering. Same with the queens workforce one. The jobs are mainly alot of retail, food service and social service direct care worker jobs( in which i went on an interview for AHRC once and the woman doing interviews whom was the HR was so rude and nasty for no reason) and some workers here seem to have their egos too high as they come off at times as though they are better or more ambitious than you. God forbid you have a question about something, never go to the front desk with it unless you dont mind being humiliated by a rude moody receptionist. Overall:The jobs here are a good starter for someone finishing highschool or trying to get through college and just needs a simple job, not really a career based sort of thing. I've gotten a job through workforce one as a personal care aide/ home health aide where the WF1 paid for the training but the job itself sucks. They get 3 stars for trying and some of the people are very helpful but if you have a degree and need a serious paying job that you know you deserve then you are better off with craigslist or indeed. read more

Honestly, my five star rating is solely due to my professional interaction with Maurice K. I met Maurice at a career fair in NYC and I was immediately impressed by his innate ability to connect with people (his business table had the longest line at the event!). Less than 24 hours of our meeting, I received a call from him presenting me with career prospects that he believed I'd be "perfect" for (he follows up promptly as well). Maurice possesses that old fashioned work ethic that's sadly lacking in today's world, so meeting him was a breath of fresh air! read more

So goddamn stupid, and this goes for all the WF1 "career centers". Basically you go to one of these places on the pretext that you will get to apply and interview with the employers listed on their web-site for that particular day. This is what actually happens; you show up wait and then its either going to be a group interview or a "one on one" session with one of the agents (I guess) that work over there. Both processes are time consuming and excruciatingly annoying. They look over you're resume and then decide for you whether you are good enough to work at whatever bullshit-we-want-you-to 7 days a week-but-will-only-pay-you-minimum-wage-jobs they happen to have that day (looking at you GAP). Its an interview for an interview basically. BUT WAIT THERES MORE. If you are patient enough to go through the dumbass and unessacary middle man that is WF1, you will most likeley get an interview with one of the clothing or restsurant chains that recruit out of this place. You will quickly discover two things. 1. The interviews are usually dated days or sometimes weeks after you set them up. So if you need a job asap, forget about it 2. These companys that interview out of wf1 can be extremely picky about there selection. So you just wasted half a day because some tool decided you are not good enough to fold clothing or set up sports equipment. 3. Even if you get selected get ready for a million "second interviews" or to be told that the location you applied for won't be opening untill spring 2020. So again if you nees work fast...forget about it. And do NOT get me started on their "vetaran services" LMAO. If I could I'd give this place ZERO stars I defenitely would. Get fucked wf1. read more

I am miffed. The Workforce 1 person completely BLEW ME OFF. Did not return my emails and WAS NOT helpful in the least to obtain credentials to get work in the Security Field. I am really not sure, if these advisors want to analyze you, or actually HELP you obtain work. If they offer a GRANT, why give u such a hard time to get the Grant? They basically have recruiting events for different companies where you sign in and get called for a pre screening for the company you want to work for, its not a real interview. you give them your resume they ask you basic questions like Why would you be a good candidate for macy's and if they like you they'll contact you. I've been there for 2 months and still wasn't able to get a job. I was starting to think that I'm not good enough but this is for seasonal jobs! Useless facility. I've been to this Brooklyn location, Queens, and Harlem and have NEVER gotten a job through them. I figured that maybe if I gave each of the facilities a chance one of them would actually be competent. Nope, didn't happen. The staff is extremely rude. Apparently they have some sort of dress code which is ridiculous because you're not going on an interview, you're only talking to the middle man. I met with this one guy who told me I needed to fix my resume and then email it to him so that he could then submit it to the company I was there for in hopes of a supervisor position. Instead of doing that, I called the company myself and spoke to human resources who gave me their fax number so I could fax them my resume (which I did). Then the very next day they CALLED me to set up an interview. So apparently my resume was just fine. Yup, I made it to the third round of interviews and then I turned THEM down because I got a job closer to home. Nothing but a total waste of your day. Find your own job! read more

Entire staff doing group interviews must have taken lunch at the same time. Workforce 1 staff (John Street) staff discriminates against some people. I took a test to receive a voucher for cna training and passed. In order to get the voucher you have to attend some of their workshops. The career advisor had her "messenger" come to the workshop class and make indirect statements that I know we're meant for me. After a few weeks I received the voucher, and I went to the school to register. To make a long story short, the staff at the school were throwing indirect cruel comments at me. I know that the career advisor from workforce 1 who sent her "messenger to the workshop class had something to do with the school acting funny with me. She most likely called them to tell them I was coming and some things that were not nice for them to react the way they did. Be careful people because some people in this world love to sabotage people's lives! They are demonic and evil! read more

I had read all the bad reviews here on yelp but I didn't listen to the warnings. DO NOT USE WORKFORCE 1 it is a complete waste of time. They are unorganized at times frantic and it is nothing more than a cattle call for low wages.I was asked to leave the building in the beginning of the final interview that was after 3 hours of being shuffled from room to room. I was interviewing with Barclay center and the interviewer was rude and dismissive then tried to have me removed from the building for no reason or no reason was given. They asked me to bring a resume to the interview witch I did. I gave it to the work force one employee at the first screening process. He kept the resume. When it was time to talk to Barclays they asked for my resume. I told them that I had given it to the workforce 1 employee and that he had it. I was then told to print a new copy. Confused I asked if I had to wait back in line to continue my interview which I had already started. I was told 'Sorry you were unprepared twice one by workforce1 staff and by the barclays interviewer. I have never in my life had to bring more than one resume to an interview, who has? Bottom line another state funded fail. Go directly to the employer if you have amy dignity. read more
