I've been waiting to Yelp this place! Just couldn't do it while I was still in contract with them. Last Friday was my last day...bitter-sweet. Upon moving to the area, Suzanne was my first choice and first stop on a list of temp agencies. I liked that it's small and women-owned. Since they kept me busy during the holiday season, they were the only agency I worked with for about a month. It did slow down a bit after the holidays, but I still received at least two weeks worth of work per month. That may not seem like a lot, but for a small boutique company with no ads or sales, I think it's pretty good. Of course, I would've wanted more work! Who wouldn't? I have to say though, the few assignments I did receive were with wonderful companies and wonderful people. It's good to know they're just as picky about their employers as they are about their employees. The staff...LOVED them! I felt like they took everything we talked about during our initial meeting into consideration when placing me on assignments. My commute, my skills, my abilities, my interests, all taken into consideration. They're fun and personable and they totally get my humor. I liked them! We communicated frequently, even when there wasn't any work for me. I'm actually really shocked that they have reviews on here claiming they're unresponsive. Not my experience at all! I contacted them for everything: directions, resume critique, advice for interviews...everything! They even calmed me down when I got nervous or over-excited. When I met Suzanne, she was so attentive and gave me a world of resources and advice for my job search. When it had slowed down, I signed up with another agency...a bigger agency. Although I had a great interview with them and they called me frequently for assignments, I didn't accept any of the assignments. NONE! It felt like they just tossed me onto a call list. The companies were either not within a reasonable commute or they were of work I told them I was strongly against doing. I was unemployed, not desperate. Sharp contrast to TSS! That other agency had a really friendly staff (they're probably not the worst that's out there), but the agency as a whole lacked the personal touch that TSS has. I said goodbye to Suzanne and family when the first company they placed me with (a non-profit, as I strongly requested during our meeting) hired me permanently. Hire or no hire, I had a great experience with TSS while I was there. Job searching in a new city can be intimidating. I'm happy I did not have to do it alone. read more

I've dealt with 2 pretty bad agencies in the past year. But this one takes the cake. They were a total waste of time in every sense of the word. If time wasting isn't bad enough, then go ahead and couple that with an obnoxiously unprofessional staff that is impossible to deal with. That's Temporary Staffing by Suzanne in a nutshell. I guess I can close by asking...how is such a useless, bumbling organization able to stay in business? I guess by wasting clients time, not returning calls/emails, and generally exuding a level of incompetence not seen since the Hindenburg tried to land over in Jersey. AWFUL. read more

I stopped doing the weekly e-mails to them after a while--I communicated with them for at least a year-and-a-half and got no work from them in all that time. I remember the day I first registered with their office, and how nice they seemed (Karen was the primary person I met with, although she also introduced me to a couple of other people). It's very frustrating when a temp agency supposedly has no work for you, especially when you have very strong admin skills and experience. Yet they insist that candidates do a Friday check-in. I ended up feeling very passive, like there was no way to make headway with their agency at all. I did occasionally email them outside of Fridays, just to let them know I was still "out there" and try to find out if they had anything. I also sent them an updated resume, etc. I was always told, "Thanks, we'll let you know if something becomes available...." yet never got calls for work. read more

Hands down, the most reliable, responsive and friendly staffing agency I've worked with in NYC. Their team has low turnover, which makes it easy to consistently work with the same people over time. It also says a lot about how well Suzanne runs her office and team. I've used their services a few times over the years and they always come through with jobs that take my skill set, environment, and timeline goals into account. This is the ONLY staffing agency I've worked with besides Fahrenheit IT that has found me a temp to perm job and who quickly replies. read more

Several months ago, I met with three people who work in this office. They seemed very positive about placing me in a variety of jobs because I have an excellent range of administration and communication skills and full-time availability. However, although they seemed pleased and impressed with my résumé, I have NOT had ONE call from them! I eventually gave up on checking in with them weekly to tell them of my availability for the following week. Please, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME here, as you will spend about two hours filling out their questionnaires, forms, and sitting while you wait for them to come one-by-one for you to meet with you and vest in you false hope. As for myself, I found a great permanent job with a large company after those months passed. For all those who are in the position I was earlier, don't become discouraged by small agencies such as this one that will be completely useless to you! read more

I never would have guessed, in a million years, that this would be my winner for best agency. Yeah, sure, they're small and intimate, but with the great Manhattan job drought hitting New York this past February, this was really a last ditch effort for me. Between Spherion and Atrium, I was convinced there wasn't a job dog walking out there. Then a friend of a friend recommended this place and I was highly dubious that I would be working with them. I think they have 5 employees, max, and my interview was just shooting the s*it with Nick. Cool, nice, fun people, but I wasn't going to hear from them again. About 4 days later (keep in mind that I hadn't heard from any of my other agencies in *weeks*), they called. That fell through but I was still impressed. I think its been a week and a half and they got me a fantastic job. Full time, great perks, really cool company. And they call you and you know they just remember you. They didn't have to make a contact card for you because you're employee #23739273; they work with a couple people, they have a couple employees, they're like the model small business. No benefits and I took a small hit on pay, so its not all hunky dory. I'm still genuinely impressed with these guys and can happily recommend them. read more

A graduate school friend of mine got a great job through this temp agency at a Food Bank. It involved meaningful work too, not like, filing and such. However nice the guy was who met with me at this agency, the fact of the matter is: I never received any assignments through them. This explains my poor rating of Temps by Suzanne. Though their office is beautiful, it cannot eradicate the simple fact that they never found me work. read more

I was working with another temp agency at the time, but wanted to expand my efforts, so I tried Staffing by Suzanne. I was less than impressed - I filled out a bunch of forms and questionnaires, and the woman I spoke to seemed nice enough. But after that, I heard zilch from them! Part of that was my fault, they do say you can call on Fridays to see how things are coming along and I always forgot. But still, I never heard one word from them about any jobs. Also do keep in mind working with them that they only do temporary assignments. You can't get temp to perm work through them. I've been working with the other staffing agency since. They encourage you to call every single day you're not working, and they care way more than these folks. read more

They have too many one and two-star​ reviews for me to consider trying to reach out to them again. I have reached out to several temp agencies and most had the courtesy of responding and inviting me to forward a resume after which I had been able to schedule an interview. Staffing by Suzanne, on the other hand, is not accessible. I sent a cover and resume and heard nothing back and they were not reachable by phone. My impression was that they were very picky about who they responded to. I felt that perhaps they're just too exclusive for the average worker. They just don't have the good business sense to respond to inquiries. Now, especially after seeing other negative reviews, I wonder if it's just that their practice isn't up to par. read more

My experience with TSS was almost too good to be true. I had never temped before, was interviewing around for jobs, but nothing was the right fit. I started applying to temp agencies, none of which ever got back to me until I contacted TSS. Nick got back to me the next day to schedule an interview. Karen conducted most of the interview with me, which involved filling out a pretty exhaustive form detailing my skills, education, work experience, and what I was looking for in a job. Karen was extremely warm and supportive, very important during a discouraging time for me! A week later, they called to ask if I was interested in an admin-assistant job at a nonprofit. They figured the job might last "about a month," (from what I understand, this org went through quite a few temps over the past year or two?), but I hung in and was offered a permanent position two months later. I'm not making extreme bank or anything, but it's significantly more than any of the jobs I had previously interviewed for, and with amazing benefits. I feel very lucky. Throughout the experience, everyone at TSS was very responsive to my questions, and Karen made me feel like they were rooting for me the whole way. Temporary Staffing never replied to me at all not so much as a email or Phone call. Maybe some day!

I'm an employer and contacted Temporary Staffing by Suzanne to recruit a customer service assistant. Although I didn't end up working with them, I was so impressed with the experience that I'm still writing a review. Within 30 minutes of speaking with the receptionist about my needs, Suzanne herself called me back, and in that short time she had already researched me and my business. That sort of personalized service is rare among companies that I actually DO work with. Suzanne politely declined the engagement because it wasn't a good geographic fit (most of our work is in Brooklyn) and referred me to another staffing agency that would have a bigger pool of candidates from which to recruit. She also called that agency and briefed them on my company and the position, so that I'd have a warm pass off. She didn't need to do that. I was impressed with her professionalism and prompt attention, especially given that she knew that I wouldn't become a client. Based on the positive experience, I would refer job seekers and employers to Suzanne without hesitation. They're a class act! read more

Disclaimer: This is a bit late as I temped with Suzanne in the summer and early fall of 2009. However, I've successfully referred friends to Suzanne with great results up until early 2011, so I feel like it speaks to the continued quality of the organization. I graduated in 2008 and was lucky enough to land a job, but was laid off a year later like many people in my age group during those dark, dark times. Not being the type to mope I networked and hit up every temp agency in the city in the month after I was laid off. I can say with authority that out of ALL of the temp agencies I visited (basically, the top 25 results on Google if you search for TEMP AGENCY NYC) Suzanne had by the far the most helpful staff, the nicest office, and also the most savvy people working for them. And I say "savvy" because it turned out to be a VERY important thing: I know I'm going to sound very elitist when I say this, but most temp agencies in New York are depressing places staffed by recruiters who are frankly not that educated and do not have such a deep understanding of the contemporary job market. At the time, I was 22 and did not have an extensive full time resume; other recruiters wrote me off completely and simply said, "We'll call you." Suzanne was the ONLY temp agency that recognized the prestigious college I went to (ridiculous since it's a top 5!), recognized the places I've had internships at, and recognized my previous institutions as substantial institutions. They were the ONLY temp agency that evaluated me thoroughly and took time to talk to me with not one, but two staffers. The next week, I had a well-paying job at a very respected international organization that fit my resume so perfectly that it did not even look like a temp position. (In fact, to this day it remains on my resume.) I was a good match for the company as well - what was supposed to be a 3 week assignment turned into 6 months of highly paid work that gave a great network and new skills. I was hired for a full time position shortly after that at an external organization. After my positive experience with them I recommended them to many friends that were in a similar situation (it was 2009!) and they all had the same experience - they were placed quickly into great positions at great organizations. They work with well known, respectable organizations that are great resume builders and most importantly, they GIVE YOUNG PEOPLE A CHANCE. If you are in a similar demographic as I am, I highly, highly recommend Suzanne and her amazing staff. You definitely won't regret it. read more

This agency has better turnaround time than most of my ex-boyfriends. Even with a limited schedule, they found me work within a week or 2 of signing with them. Everyone is polished and professional, which is a big sigh of relief from the other temp agencies I interviewed with. Most temp agencies I've seen feel a lot like the DMV - no one wants to be there and the lighting is completely shitty. It makes me wonder what kind of assignments they send candidates out for if their home base looks like shit. The team at Temporary Staffing by Suzanne totally has your back and takes the time to get to know every candidate. They are amazing. They were the only temp agency to which I sent my resume. I had an interview with Nick, the next day I get a call for a 2 day temp job at $16/hr. The 2nd day they wanted the job extended another 2 days. Great start! I want to share my success story: Then through some unfortunate coincidences I had to turn down their next 4 offers (yes they called me 4 times for 4 more jobs within 2 weeks). Then I had a wonderful conversation with Suzanne herself on the phone and one of the things she said was "you know, sometimes these things happen for a reason, you have to turn one down but the next one will be the one for you, I know it!" The next job they called me for I accepted. I temped for a full 1.5 days (at $21/hr) before the firm offered me a full time position. I've just accepted, and now am Admin Asst at $75k, full benefits, the works. Now making 2.5 times my salary at my previous f/t job and my life has literally changed forever. I'll give them that second star only because they did call me once for a temp assignment... The day before Christmas. I held out some hope since they have some good scores from other yelpers. What's there to say? The usual, go in, sign up, they don't do perm, at best you'll get temp to perm, but they warned me it's rare. They're bread and butter is temp work. Fine... cool... I can dig it. Atrium was the same way in the past when I used them. But these people have no jobs. And you have to touch base with them every week to let them know your availability, which would be fine except you _NEVER_ get a response back. Even an automated, "Dear X, Thank you for informing us of your availability..." would be nicer than sending it to these people and into the void that it goes to. Like 98% of all agencies in this city, use at your own peril and discretion. read more

If you're in dire need of an administrative temp job to fill in employment backs and you ask them to broaden your profile to include more opportunities, they don't understand the concept. Frustrated with not only my job search, but also the insensitivity of interviewers at other agencies, I did not expect much. So I was delighted to discover Temporary Staffing by Suzanne's caring, intelligent, sensitive and highly focused approach to interviewing and placement. I've been working with them for quite a while. I went in to see them more than a year ago, and although it took months to get work (no other services had work for me either) they were so much nicer to me than any of the other services, that it felt alright to wait. Coming from San Francisco for several days to display a trade show booth I needed a bright person to help me staff it. Found this company on Yelp. From start to finish they were extremely professional. They took their time to interview me thoroughly to find just the right match - and they did. The person they sent was a quick study, learned my products well enough that folks thought she was a regular employee. And most of all was extremely pleasant and very helpful. From earlier reviews it looks like some employees felt their interview was too long, but I appreciated the end result. I was downsized from a large company after 16 years and put together what I thought was a good resume. I began to panic when my job search led nowhere (let me tell you... its tough out there) and that's when I considered temporary work to help make ends meet. I came across this agency in TimeOut and felt it might offer a more individual and personal touch. What an amazing experience it was to deal with an agency that is both competent and efficient. Don't do it. I e-mailed them about helping me find a job back in August, after reading on a site they were one of the best temp agencies in NYC. I never heard back from them until Sept. when they had several of their staff members send me a generic e-mail telling me once they review my resume and if it fits jobs they have they will contact me. I finally heard back from someone and we set up a date and time to meet. Finally was called in and thought things were going to be good. I met up with a young lady who had me fill out the forms and I was to meet up with Michael. I waited a good 25 minutes for him to see me and keep in mind, the office was EMPTY! I finally spoke with him and we filled out a questionnaire of sorts on what jobs I would like, how much I would want to make, full time/part time, etc. The kicker is, they tell me I should sign up with other temp agencies, but on their paperwork they also say I can't go out and work for someone else. Huh? So things seemed to be fine, until he left and had me meet with Christina. She comes in and does THE EXACT SAME THING! I had to tell her, "I spoke and did all of this with Michael." They told me to e-mail them in 2 weeks to see if anything became available. I should've known this wasn't a great company to work with, when Michael and Christina both told me I can e-mail them, but then ANYONE else that works there can be e-mailed also. Um, aren't I YOUR CLIENT? Doesn't it make sense to keep YOUR CLIENT info with YOU and not pass it off to someone else only to be lost in the shuffle? I finally started dealing with Christina since Michael appears to not know how e-mail works. I keep calling her to check in and yet, I hear NOTHING back from them. Christina keeps telling me, "oh its slow" but aren't you suppose to work your tail off to get people hired, because YOU WON'T GET PAID???? Its been 4 months now and I've heard nothing from these people. I even went so far as to ask if I needed to fix my resume but all Christina tells me is, "If you have more to add do it". I'm asking her what companies are using them so I can tailor my resume to them what does she say? "I can't tell you that information". WHAT!? After the last check in, I just decided to tell them to discard my information since they've done nothing but b.s. me. read more

These people completely wasted my time. Four hours out of my life that I will never get back again, and not a single call or email back (despite my followups). I guess the best thing I could say is that I wasn't subjected to any tests. But Nick, the hairy greaseball I met with, who wore a gold chain and an open shirt as if he was expecting to go to a 1977 disco, spent two hours talking about nothing relating to work with me. It was almost as if he called me in for the interview just so he could bullshit around. And he never got straight to the point. It was like that Monty Python sketch where John Cleese calls in Graham Chapman for a job interview and rings the bell. I've never experienced anything like this. Completely rude and unprofessional, particularly in this economy, when so many people need work. (Had Nick simply informed me that he didn't have any jobs, then this wouldn't have been a problem.) Avoid this agency if you can! They're not serious! read more

I was immediately impressed. A couple phone calls, a couple emails, and voila, we had a GREAT person in our office first thing Tuesday morning, as we requested. Suzanne, who I worked with, was such a pleasure to work with. She's a real professional and guided me through the process to make sure we got everything that we wanted. Not only did they find me a wonderful ongoing temporary assignment at a competitive pay rate, but they were also so warm and communicative throughout the process. I moved to New York after a few years working in Los Angeles and wanted to try something new. I have only wonderful things to say about my experience with Temporary Staffing by Suzanne. Just after moving to the Big Apple, in 2009, I was given a strong recommendation from a friend to contact Suzanne. In my initial call I requested a full-time position in "communications" and "non-profit." WIth a degree in journalism I was casting a wide net with "communications," but Suzanne's wonderful staff presented me with an absolutely perfect full-time opportunity in the media department of a non-profit org. They nailed it, and I had a wonderful experience the entire year+ that I worked there. My first impressions of Temporary Staffing by Suzanne were all positive. Suzanne's staff is responsive, they listen well and most importantly they deliver. I worked mainly with Nick at first, and he was exceptional. I was also introduced to Suzanne, who is extremely knowledgeable about the industry and NYC as a whole, professional and kind. In later months I got to know the entire staff, and could see that they truly care about their contract employees. Every interaction with each of them was a positive one, right down to the weekly timesheet submissions. Working with Suzanne and her team was just fantastic all around.
