Recently I decided to pop into this large store with an indoor firing range in Hobbs, NM, for the purchase of one of my dream guns. I currently do not have my concealed carry, so I paid for it. Waited a few days for it to arrive at the shop since it was a special order. Filled out my paperwork on a tablet. Now I have to wait 7 days until I obtain it. It's a beautiful piece of American design and manufacturing! Cole is my favorite employee here as he has been the one who has helped me most throughout this process. Duncan is friendly with a quirky sense of humor. The other employees are nice as well & quick to help even when it's busy. Free, abundant parking in the Navajo East Plaza.

On November 21, 2024 I was immediately greeted by a very nice gentleman. While they did not have the ammo I wanted in stock, he clarified how ordering is processed from their website. While I'm not huge on fly fishing and there's not much of it to be had close by, about a quarter of the store is dedicated to it. You can get rods, reels, line, flies, and a whole getup for the sport right here. Not to mention, if you bump into the owner he's happy to chat and provide some pointers. Another quarter of the store is dedicated to hiking and camping. There is a very limited selection of tents, sleeping bags and pads, general camping supplies, and quite a few backpacks. They supplied me with a couple items for my 2023 AT hike, but what they have is generally aimed at car campers. The remaining half of the store is all clothing and shoes from the most popular outdoor brands. Outdoor Research, North Face, Patagonia, Buff, Goodr, and so many others. I imagine they're making most of their money from people who mostly just want to look outdoorsy. Which is fine from my perspective. They are always well staffed with college students. Almost seems like there are always more employees than really necessary in here. Nevertheless, I usually end up popping in just to have a look around whenever I drive by. I honestly rarely buy anything mostly because I don't need anything. But the ambiance always makes me feel at home.

None of us were greeted when we walked in, despite about 5 people working. We spent a total of about 45 minutes in the store trying on clothes & looking at all of their products. Employees kept walking by but didn't say a word to any of us or acknowledge that we were there. All the employees were talking to each other laughing and carrying on while I was going back and forth from the dressing rooms grabbing different sizes. Finally we just put back all the clothes that we wanted to purchase and left. Will be ordering online, but really disappointed when a locally owned business doesn't even acknowledge the customers in their store... Will not return.

I would have given 0 stars, but the young man at the gun counter, with multi-colored hair, was phenomenal with help and customer service, these stars I gave are for him, and him alone. Academy better watch out, I might go back and try to recruit that young man to work for me.

The bad, if you go in there expecting customer service, forget about it, there was only one guy working and he pretty well stayed hid behind a display leaning on the shelves messing with his phone. I think if my intentions are to go in and drop almost $200 on a belt, I expect some customer service, and I shouldn't have to solicit it, either. He looked up on occasion but then right back down to his phone. Sales people shouldn't be allowed to carry their phones while on the floor. If they were set on burning a potentially loyal customer into someone who will never come back, congratulations, you did it.
