Their prices on boards and gear seem fair too. Also, they are also honest with beginners. I chatted with them about it before because I have seen people out on big days with rental boards where honestly it is unsafe for them to be out, but those people rented from a different shop in town. I really appreciate that they won't rent to beginners when conditions are unsafe for them to be out (both for them and for the rest of us).

From trying different things out and making progress, I realize my boards are tailored to people larger than me. I want to upgrade my longboard and shortboard so I asked for some guidance on what to look for when I decide to pull the trigger on new boards and Jeremiah did not disappoint. Shared my goals for each type of board and Jeremiah shared his expertise with such a pleasant vibe overall. I took my friend here to rent a wetsuit for her first time in the water too and love that the vibe here is not "too cool for school" and simply pure stoke for surfing with a welcoming attitude, even for those who want to try it out.

Parking is $7 for 3 hours-machines are near the restrooms. Be sure to place your receipt in your car- make sure it's visible. There's a walking/hiking trail alongside the perimeter. Sadly came across a dead bird and seal that were on the beach. Lots of ocean organisms on the beach as well. Tis the season with the high winds, and also part of the cycle of life. Otherwise a pretty clean Bach with a lovely view.

Pacific State Beach is also known as Linda Mar Beach. Popular beach for surfing, especially beginners and many people take surfing lessons here. There's a Coastal Trail that runs along the ocean. Known for whale watching and beautiful sunsets. Dog friendly beach but I don't know if they allow off leash. Before leaving the house, I packed a box of fresh strawberries, blueberries, pineapples and some water as well as a beach blanket just in case. My friend brought a cooler so I put everything perishable inside. And what do you know? We all sat down on the beach and enjoyed some time here. Packed with people that day, but very festive. My pup was enthusiastic about this beach outing, and ate some fruits with us. We all love a beach day! Located on Coast Hwy in Pacifica.

On my third lesson there was a scheduling mix-up, I was supposed to meet with another new instructor, and instead of just rescheduling, Alex -- who also works at the shop -- offered to take me out himself rather than let it fall through. He had a good read on me: he sensed that if the lesson got pushed back, I might drop the idea of surfing becoming a real part of my life altogether. He didn't want me to give up on it, so he reworked the shop's schedule to make it work. That lesson completely changed my perspective. Alex has a real gift for seeing people and meeting them exactly where they are -- and I've seen it again and again, not just in that lesson but from spending more time at the shop watching him work with new surfers, surfers visiting from all over, and people who never thought surfing could be for them (I was one of them.) Since that day he accidentally became my instructor, I've had three more lessons with Alex. He's changed my whole attitude toward surfing, helped me buy my first wetsuit, gotten me involved in activities, and I'm hoping we'll collaborate on getting my first custom board. His style of teaching is simple, and it's exactly who he is around the shop -- tailored and personalized, simple and intentional, creative and impactful. Pacifica and this little stretch of coast can feel busy and crowded, but the community here is small, and there are a handful of core people who make it feel special -- for locals, Bay Area natives, and tourists alike. Alex is one of those people. I can't wait to keep growing my love for surfing, be part of the Travelers family, and watch Alex keep being a connector -- for Travelers, for Pacifica, and for surfers everywhere.

I didn't know the Pacifica Pier was known for crabbing and fishing. We came here for a "brisk walk" on an exceptionally warm Spring day. It was in the high 80's to low 90's in most of the Bay Area. Out in Pacifica it was a perfect day! NO FOG, nice cool breeze and a pleasant 70° I didn't even attempt to look for parking around the pier. I drove through downtown and found a spot in the neighborhood, about 5 minute walk from the Pier. There were a good amount of people out an about. Soooo many folks on the pier; crabbing and fishing. For good reason: "Pacifica is home to one of the best fishing piers in the state. Because of the number and quality of the fish caught off Pacifica's shores, the pier has earned a number one ranking among anglers in the Bay Area. Although fishing can be good year round, many consider the summer months to be the best when salmon and striped bass can be caught. No admission is charged and no fishing license is required at the Pacifica Municipal Pier." - https://www.cityofpacifica.org/departments/public-works/field-services/pacifica-pier "The L-shaped, 1,140 feet long pier is officially named the Reverend Herschell Harkins Memorial Pacifica Pier, after the much-admired Reverend from the Little Brown Church. Located at Sharp Park Beach, Pacifica Municipal Pier was opened in November 1973. It was built as a cooperative development of the City of Pacifica, the Wildlife Conservation Board and the California Department of Fish & Game. Famous for its salmon runs and winter Dungeness crabbing, the pier attracts anglers from around the globe. Other species caught at the pier are Jack Smelt, White Croaker and Striped Bass. The pier, a designated site by The Whale Trail, is one of the best places to watch humpbacks and gray whales lunge feeding, tail slapping and if you're lucky breaching." - https://www.visitpacifica.com/things-to-do/pacifica-municipal-pier

The Good: * Free to visit. * Small parking lot. * Restrooms in the parking lot. * The main reason people come here is for the amazing tidepooling at the J.V. Fitzgerald Marine Reserve, which is a tidal reef ecosystem that one can explore during low tide. * The Cypress Grove at the top is a fun place for photos. The Meh: * A fairly tall staircase is required to access the beach area, and if you cannot handle a few flights, then it is best to skip this place; it is definitely not ADA compliant. * As far as beaches go, if it were not for the tidepooling, I doubt I would ever come here for the beach itself. It is small and not really noteworthy, especially since you have to schlep your stuff down that huge flight of stairs. The Ugly: * The parking lot is not that large and fills up very quickly, especially during the summer months. There is neighborhood street parking available, but I would personally prefer not to bother the neighbors. Conclusion: Come for the exploration and not much else.
