I stop by here a few times a year to stock up on specific food items that I can only find here. Today I went in for some Walker's Stem Ginger Biscuits (that's England-speak for cookies). As usual, I came in for one thing and walked out with two: I saw a jar of Branston Pickle and just had to have it (an English relish that pairs perfectly with cheese, for a cheese and pickle sandwich). I passed a big stand of Cafe DuMonde canisters, for New Orleans style coffee. You'll find all sorts of European, Asian, and other international foods await you, from coffees and syrups, to teas, sweets, and snacks. Got a Pocky craving? You can satisfy it here. We're regulars here. They do wine and beer tastings and occasionally other tastings (world foods, various coffee brewing methods, etc.) on Saturday afternoons and we typically try to stop by if we're in the neighborhood. Most of the staff offer truly remarkable customer service, which unfortunately makes the few surly ones stick out but I haven't encountered them in awhile. It's sort of like the Kohl's of food and drink. You've got to shop the specials, and it's a no-brainer to join their Explorer's Club (free bag of coffee for every bag you buy with double points on Wednesdays, birthday gift, huge discounts on wines, etc.). It is a PITA to load up all the coupons onto your phone and have them scanned in at the checkout -- hopefully they'll change to a system a la Meijer's mperks that simply automatically applies relevant coupons on your account when you checkout. Great spot to grab gifts, fancy chocolates, bulk coffee and kitchen doodads. read more

I don't stop by here often, but when I do it is hard to get me out of the store. So many unique items that it's tough to just walk in, get what I need, pay, and leave. My latest stop involved looking for my favorite coffee made with coconut. Unfortunately, the store was out but the nice sales associate made a call up front and was told there was a Coconut Marshmallow blend on a sale shelf. That worked for me, plus I found tea, napkins, and other items I didn't really need but couldn't pass up. I follow a blog where the writer sometimes promotes World Market using items from World Market for entertaining. I discovered that if the item is in stock at my local store, I can order it online and they will send me a text message when they have my order ready. How easy is this? I don't think a lot of people shop this way since most often the cashier is a little confused when I show up to pick up my order. But once a manager is called, my order is brought up front and I'm out the door with all my goodies. read more

I've always had a thing for international styles and colors and I wish I could afford to decorate my house out of world market. BUT, since I can afford their furniture, I like to stop in for small decorative items, gifts, a great beer selection. I like to come around Christmas too for really neat stocking stuffers. They have a good international food sections. So, if you are not from this country or have traveled a lot and are finding yourself craving something particular, they just might have it. My sister and her Dutch boyfriend have gotten me hooked on Stroopwaffles and I am hoping to be able to find a local source. World Market just might be it. I became a fan of this store when I lived in Ann Arbor about ten years ago. It has a great selection of goods from around the world, and they keep their stock updated. If you are looking for a unique and original gift for someone, this place should be on the top of your list. If you are looking for unique, uncommon or hard to find imported food products, you should look here, because they will likely have it. They have a very large selection of domestic and imported wine and beer. The even have them loosely sectioned off into countries, so you can find wine from France, Argentina, Chile, Italy, South Africa, Germany, etc. They even sell Saki, and some other hard to find alcohol imports. If you like original or international furniture, they have quite an awesome selection, and their prices are not too bad. When you go to the World Market, you should block out some time, because the store is quite diverse and you will want to have the time to look at a lot of unique stuff. Definitely a wonderful place for gift shopping year round. It is one of my favorites stores to visit when I am in the Portage area. read more

Sorry, I am completely biased to World Market, I love the place, such a unique store, I always find something I like there. Not to mention, they have a nice wine collection at decent prices. It's always my Christmas go-to for stocking stuffers. I recently bought a dining room table from there and get nothing but compliments. I have my eye on a day bed from there next. Mr. Clayton ( I don't know his last name) went out of his way to help me with locating an item that was out of stock nearly everywhere as well as with the pickup of my order. He was courteous and extremely helpful with my questions, exemplifying what "service" means in "customer service!" With his help, I was able to gift a great friend of mine the gift she had been admiring since it became available in World Market's ads. Thank you again Clayton! Excellent customer service. We ordered a kitchen table that we discovered was damaged while unpacking the product for assembly. The staff and managers were excellent to work with for arranging a replacement. They were proactive and inspected the replacement table before delivery, which was also damaged with a scratch. The third table was perfect and was delivered by the manager. The manager also gave us an additional credit for our inconvenience. Love the table and chairs we purchased from them.
