I love Cost Plus World Market. This location in particular is a little off the beaten path; you have to walk about two blocks north of Pike Place Market to find it, but its worth your time. Just like most Cost Plus World Market's, they have lots of cool, unique decorations for your home. This one in particular seems to be doing samples and demos of wine, beer, and/or food almost every time I visit. Finally, I end with giving Cost Plus World Market five stars because they are very conscious of their impact in the community and wish to give back. You can tell by some of the workers they have employed that they really care about helping people and being a business at the same time. I am intensely in love with coming here. I dont do it too often. I always find something I need.. candles? ornaments, imported bamboo, cotton imports. The food items are a bit strange, I will admit. Came here to see all the Hello Kitty goods they had in stock. So much cute character items like Gudatame as well from Hello Kitty and her friends. Really enjoyed the friendly helpful staff while we looked for things and the fast easy check out. Thoroughly enjoyed how clean and well put together the store and floors were. Great selection of wine and beer. Prices are hit and miss, but if you can find a hit you better buy four or five bottles. I really love the beer selection and the prices for the beer really are better or comparable to other places. They also have a lot of cool snack foods from other parts of the world. How did it take me this long to discover this store?! It's easy to say this is a home store but they actually sell food and even jewelry and beauty products! It's quite the spot! I came once to buy baskets and basket decorating materials for work. Then I came again because I found out they sell mason jars individually here. Everywhere else I was looking sold them in huge packs which I didn't need. There's a lot of cool stuff in here from a huge price range. I saw some little saucers for about $1 I might have to go back for. It's cool there's a food section but unless it was a bottle of wine, I doubt I would come here for it. I checked the prices of the Asian stuff and you can get it way cheaper in Chinatown. No surprise there. I also had a really hard time finding someone to help me. This store is just so big! Also, their loyalty program needs some work. You earn points in each department separately! That's too complicated and means it take a lot longer to rack up points. And when their competitor, Bed Bath and Beyond, is doing 20% off coupons and excellent customer service, they need to step it up. Bed Bath and Beyond is more basic. Cost Plus World Market is more quirky but if I could find the item in both stores, you bet I'm going to take the 20% off and excellent service. Wonderful place to browse for unique international items - the selection is simply AMAZING!! Everything from treats, furniture to even jewelry and world wines - very impressive and prices are more than reasonable. However, I had to take off two stars for customer service... Having done my time in the retail industry, I am not quick to complain about service but how the sales associate handled herself while ringing up my purchases this past weekend is another story. My friend and I had stopped by to browse with nothing particular in mind but ended up finding great deals on holiday items that were 50% off on sale. We got two bags of coffee and a few chocolate bars for a quick snack. The line in front of me was not very long - perhaps 4 people at the most since the store was relatively quiet (it was New Years Day) Unfortunately, I did not get to catch her name because the sales associate who rang me up had her badge behind the apron - I should have asked for it given the bad experience. Let me start by saying that my credit card is a bit old...usable but the magnetic strip is getting abit worn - with that said, I have never had difficulty using it elsewhere. First of all, the card reader brought up the wrong screen when I was ready to swipe. It asked me for some kind of a membership number which I did not have and was not offered to me. I was told to swipe anyway - when I did, the reader gave me an error that tells me it was a bad swipe. When the error goes away, I tried swiping again as prompted by the screen...that's where I apparently offended the sales associate because she FIRMLY told me "If you're going to keep swiping it over and over again, it's never going to work!!" so at that point, I gave her the card for her to key the numbers in manually - I was answered with a huge sigh and she typed away...it gave her an error apparently and she goes "It's still nto working, do you have another card???" and handed the card back to me. I told her NO since I always use that card and I KNOW it works...during which she ROUGHLY grabbed the card from my hand, wrapped it in plastic and swiped on the reader - it worked this time. She then turned to me and said "You know, just a hint...usually when your card stops working it means time to get a new one...just a very obvious hint there!": I was astounded - I simply cannot believe the passive aggressive comment made about my card and how roughly she handled everything. Professionalism is one thing that should come with any territory and in this case, I wasn't the only one who suffered this treatment - my friend reported a few people after me who received the same rude treatment and as we walked out of the store, another couple walked past us (they were in line behind me) and muttered "UNBELIEVABLE" under their breath due to another outburst from that sales associate. Next time I'm in store, if somehow I end up in her line and receive the same treatment, I WILL say something right back to her rude face and give her a taste of her own medicine. I regret not knowing her name, all I remembered is that she was an older woman who wore glasses and had short chestnut brown wavy hair with employee badge hidden behind her apron, ofcourse ;) Overall, I will be back whenever I need a unique present for a friend or world beers/wine but not waiting on her line...learned my lesson!! read more

Beware: You will leave with things you never knew you "needed". I can never leave the store without perusing their food section...they're my source of Haribo gummy bears, Digestive biscuits, Ritter chocolate bars, and Fiji water. However, my favorite part of the store is the travel-sized bottles of condiments. I travel frequently for work and prepare salads in my hotel room instead of eating out at fatty restaurants. Olive oil, sesame oil, balsamic vinegar, honey, mustard, and ketchup, oh my! And their beer and wine section is a must for affordable beverages. read more

Very interesting store that was a mix of a quirky wine and beer outlet with Pier 1 or Home Goods items for sale. The cashier told me they're opening in the Boston area soon so I'll definitely check them out. Lots of fun items, and a really great selection of craft beers. My partner and I did the create your own pack and he was able to try some that you never see in our area. Very big store, but not too crowded and the line moved fast. Prices were great on the food items. It's the type of place that if I lived in the area and didn't have to take everything home via luggage, I'd probably have spent way too much money. read more

I love this location for its funky basement parking and for the crazy bathroom key as a spatula and for the awesome staff who spent 20 minutes searching in the back just to check they didn't have new bowls in the last shipment. Love this place! Funky, random decorative furniture and world food offerings. Wanted to give a shout out to the blond employee that helped me yesterday when I picked out some lamps. There wasn't anyone on the floor to help me, so I went up to the register, where she said she'd be right there to help me - and she was. Super helpful, super nice, and was able to get me a lampshade on hold at a different store as it wasn't in stock there. And she did it all with a smile on her face. I love this store! When I have time to kill, I love to browse and look at all the interesting (and quite affordable) things that they have -- from food stuffs to furniture. My only complaint is an employee named Linda. I was in today and asked for help. I got the same response/attitude that I got from her about a month ago when I was in. At that time, I thought maybe she was having a bad day, but this time, exact same thing -- she acts as though you are REALLY putting her out by asking for assistance. OMG, she works there and clearly feels like it's a huge imposition to have to answer any questions or assist in anyway. Cost Plus is another one of those shops that everybody just needs to know about. For example, it was a great resource for inexpensive stem ware I needed for a party that wasn't so expensive that I would worry if some of it got broken. Cost Plus is also one of my main resources for general glassware. It is a store that one has to visit at regular intervals, because the stock changes, and they have sales. I mostly watch for the sales, and pickup kitchen items then. I have also found accessories that I have used to decorate my bathrooms and such, like Asian style items that give my house an eclectic flair. I like this place a lot. My husband and I was walking around the area with our friend. He toke us to one of his favorite place ,and it was this store. Once I walked in I know why. The store is very nice with a wide selection of home and dinning goods, plus a impressive wine section. The only down side to this store is Service! The last time I was in I walked by the front register area where there was a line of customers and not a employee in sight. Needless to say the line of customers did not appreciate the lack of acknowledgment of service, as I walked through the store I noticed associates going about their duties and focusing on that task alone. I now resist the temptation to go here, because somehow every time I end up out some money. There was the time they advertised ridiculously cheap olive oil that did not exist in the store. Perhaps they had one bottle available and they sold it first thing. Then there was the time they had "aprons starting at 5.99." When I showed up the cheapest apron was over twice that amount. This last weekend I purchased a lamp shade and lamp (mix and match). When I get home and screw on the shade it wobbles. There is no way to screw it on so it is stable. To add insult to injury when I put in the lightbulb and turn it on, it doesn't turn on. That's right. It doesn't work. I will now make a trip to return it but really. read more

I went to Cost Plus World Market today to buy some furniture for a home library. The experience there exceeded my expectations. A lot of stuff was on sale, everything was in stock and the staff was helpful. I ended up getting a large hand woven wool rug, a leather reading chair, an ottoman, throw pillow and coffee pot for less than $500! In particular I really appreciated the help we got from the manager Anne. I can't wait to see how "put together" the library looks with these new pieces and I will definitely be going back to World Market to decorate other rooms. read more

Love. There is so much that I love about this Store. First of all the staff are really helpful. Even in the middle of the holiday craziness every person with whom I interacted was kind, calm and enjoyable. This is miraculous in and of itself. The next thing that is very impressive are the choices, the quality , and the fair prices of the merchandise represented in the store. I'm from Massachusetts and I really wish that we had that back home. So this store is only missing one thing and that is that I wish that is that each piece of merchandise had a description about the people who made it and their working conditions. BEWARE! The people at this store are unaware of the difference between a SALE price and a CLEARANCE price. In their "Christmas 50% Off" section was a Christmas item which was on SALE for $1.99 (reg. $3.99). I figured they didn't sell at that price, these were left over, and part of the "Christmas 50% Off" deal: $1.00, then. At the checkout I was told that the $1.99 price was both the sale price AND the clearance price by someone who claimed to be the manager. To get my refund I was forced to go to the back of a long line. This is not the first time for this kind of "trickery," I'd guess you'd call it. The last time I spent money at that store was about two months ago. Again, the problem was with a clearance markdown. A sign on the end cap stated "50% off. Discount taken at register." When I got to the checkout I was told the sticker price WAS the clearance price. I went back to the end cap and produced the sign which stated "50% off. Discount taken at register." I was told that the sign was incorrect. I swore then that I would never go back to the store again. I did go back. I'm sorry I went back. I live downtown. If you are shopping there, beware of things like the above. I've been overcharged and short-changed at several retailers, especially this last year. Luckily, I've caught them.....most of the time. Its unfortunate when you're undocumented company policies get in the way of a great staff. My brother ordered some furniture online and designated me as the pickup person. He even called in the customer support number to ask if that was all that was needed. However when I get there to pick it up I get told that I have to have the credit card used to purchase online even though it's not in my name? WTF - nobody said anything when he asked customer service, nothing was noted on the website during checkout, nothing. When asked why, the only response was it was company policy for security reasons - which completely don't make sense! Definitely won't be going back as there are too many great options in the area. I guess when you get to a certain size company, individual customers just don't matter. read more

I had a wonderful and beyond my expectations customer service experience with Dan at Cost Plus World Market on Western Avenue! He was very helpful and demonstrated a professional, fun attitude all with equal aplomb! I have been buying the boxed votive candles at World Market for years and love them (they really do last for 6 hours)!!! Recently they have changed and the new ones in the grey boxes don't last nearly as long (around 3.5-4 hours) as the previous ones and cost the same amount. Dan informed me that he had some boxes of the old version in the back and held them for me and sold them all to me and informed me that I also could use one of my World Market member discount coupons!!! read more

I shopped at the World Market on Western Ave in Seattle on Monday and went back in on Wednesday to grab a few more heavier items. I ended up at the same cashier who had rung me up on Monday. She remembered me, which I thought was very nice. I work just up the street and park in the garage that is about a half block straight uphill from the store. I had several heavy items and could not carry them up the hill so asked if I could leave my cart at the register and run up, grab my car, and pull up in front of the store to get my items. She held the items at her register and actually watched for me to pull up and ran out and loaded the items into my car for me! Wonderful customer service! I feel bad that I didn't catch her name, but she was a lifesaver. So happy to be a World Market Member! read more

My first go-to stop when I'm in town. I love this place! The candles are great, scents are strong with earthy crunchy smells. I love the balsamic vinegar and olive oil selections. The dark chocolates are great too. I usually get a few greeting cards and gift bags every trip because they have some handmade eclectic choices that would be much pricier in a boutique paper store. Picture frames are rustic and a must-have shopping item for a quick housewarming gift or for a little nook somewhere in your house. The costume jewelry and scarves have an old school hippie vibe that I like and they often have good sales on earrings and bracelets. The bedding items have that handmade pottery barn style. Really pretty and comfy looking. Great different wine and beer selections that I would love to try because the prices are good but would be too much for me to carry back home on the plane. I usually spend an hour in the kitchen department alone! World Market is slowly branching out and I've been to others but this and the original San Francisco is by far the best location. read more
