At first this place was the only place in Kalamazoo that I would bring my Mac to if I had any issues. But since our last experience we will no longer do business with this store. Nor will we recommend it to others. My husband had previously bought a custom computer from World of Cd-Rom so when it was time to get a new one, he took his specs to them to build another one. It has since been over a year and with multiple shipments of sending it back and forth to be looked at and fixed it has not once worked correctly. We have called them, written emails to the owner who personally gave us his phone number and said to "call anytime" has not one time contacted us back. They included two types of files on that so I can make additional thumbdrive copies or even burn another DVD in the future. They do not back their sales recommendations! On February 8 2012 I took computer specs to World of CD-Rom. I needed a video card so my husband's computer would play a video game. After they looked up all the information they sold me an $89+ tax video card, saying, "this should work." Well it did not work. On March 7 I took the video card back to the store in the original packaging with my original receipt. The clerk could not give me a refund because the boss/owner was not in to write me a check. Then he told me now the card was "used" and he would have to deduct 15%. I disagreed because it was what they recommended; so I left the product with my name and phone number asking the owner to call me. (I did get a receipt that I left the product.) The owner never called me! I called the World of CD-Rom today and the guy MIke who "helped" me with the return now told me that because I did not return the product within 14 days they wouldn't issue me a refund or a store credit. I am thinking what the ****?? I asked why the owner never called me. Of course Mike didn't know and couldn't speak to the owner's actions. I made a statement that this is no way to run a business. I mean, really, the customer deserves a phone call. So buyer beware! I would not recommend this business to anyone. AT their recommendation I bought what was supposed to work and it didn't. The owner did not even have the courtesy to call me. Sad. Don't go there. I guess I will stick with the big box chain where I have always gotten good service and they have a better return policy. read more

This location delivered, hands-down, the worst customer service I've ever received. After two months of misinformation, conflicting quotes, and incorrect estimates, they tried to charge me full price for a repair that was supposed to have been done over a month and a half earlier. Friendly folks; but hopelessly unprofessional and bungling ones. Additionally, after I received my laptop (post motherboard replacement), I found that my videocard had been irreparably damaged. I actually went to another service provider rather than try to deal with their unimaginable incompetence again. read more

I tried to save this review as a 0 Star but couldn't. I called them first and indicated I had a difficult software installation(clean install) on a HP 495 home server . They said they could do it. I dropped it off and paid them $40. 6 weeks later after 3 or 4 calls for updates I finally gave up. All I ever got was excuses. I subsequently picked up my HP home server. I asked for my money back since the service I PAID for was never accomplished ! And so I paid $40 for storage I guess ? Terrible Service or should I say NO service. read more

My fiancée went in to World of CD ROM just to get a new charger for my laptop. He brought the computer AND the non-functional charger with him to the store when he placed his order. They had to order it since my computer is a newer model and they did not have what I needed in stock. They told him the charger would arrive in "1-2 business days". He said fine, paid cash, and they gave him a piece of computer paper with our order # and the price of the charger on it. I would like to mention that at no time during their conversation was it mentioned that this was considered a "special order", and nor was it listed anywhere on the receipt. Had my fiancée been made aware of this fact, we would have just ordered it ourselves. Because apparently (as we learned later) they don't do refunds or exchanges on special orders, even if the problem was their fault. This was on March 8th that we placed our order. About 4 business days later when we still hadn't heard anything we called them and they then informed us it was actually supposed to get here in "3-5 business days" and not 1-2 as they had told us initially. So we were told it should be just a few more days. Well, the charger FINALLY came on March 17th (9 days later), and we take it home only to find out it doesn't even fit our laptop and they completely screwed up and ordered the wrong thing. When we took it back and said we just wanted to return it and we were just going to order it ourselves because by this point we were fed up with the terrible treatment we were receiving and wanted nothing more to do with them, they informed us (for the first time) that since this was a special order they would not give us our money back or do any type of exchange and our options were to either call it a loss, walk away, and let them keep our money OR they could order it for us directly from Toshiba. We told them to go ahead and order it, since we already paid for it. We stressed that time was a major factor now as I work from my computer so I needed this charger ASAP and asked if we could come to some sort of a compromise, and would they pay the extra $10 measly bucks more to get express shipping since it was completely their fault and we were supposed to have our charger (the right one) a week ago. They refused to compromise with us in any way, and wouldn't even pay for the express shipping to try an remedy the situation. We were once again told it would be "3-5 business days", and they would call when it came. This was on March 17th. The new charger didn't come until March 27th. We were calling all the time asking about it, never once did we get an apology of any kind, or any kind of explanation as to why it was taking so long. So it took three weeks just to get a new laptop charger. When we went to pick it up we told them how dissatisfied we were with our whole experience with them and we couldn't believe how rude most of the employees were and etc, etc. Their only response was: "Sorry you feel that way". No apology for screwing up the order in the first place, no apology for refusing to work with us on a compromise, no apology that it took 3 weeks when we were originally told 1-2 business days, NOTHING. These people obviously couldn't have cared less about how we felt and the inconvenience they put us through. So in conclusion I will say this: I have NEVER received such lousy customer service in my life as I did from World of CD ROM. They do not care at all about customer satisfaction, and/or making their customers happy. They are lazy and most of them don't even know what they're doing (I mean, you work in a computer store and you can't even manage to order the right charger for a laptop, even when the customer brings it in to you just to make sure there was no possible way they could have screwed this up). So unless you want to be treated like crap and wait for a month for whatever it is you need from there, I'd definitely run far, far away from this place. read more

I can't believe this place is still in business. After reading the other reviews I can sympathize with these people. I took my very expensive custom computer to them to fix and had it methodically stripped of anything good. They changed the mother board which was only a year old and charged me over $200 for that. When I got it home I noticed that some of my programs were missing. It worked for about 2 weeks and never worked right again. My daughter and her husband recently bought a refurbished computer from them (wish I had known before they did it) and paid over $300. After 7 months it is now a pile of junk. In-house confusion. Poor communication. Uneven customer service. Unprofessional. Confused standards regarding fees and attached services or refunds. Felt like I was the one being blamed for fiduciary issues when all the blame is surely on their end. I left the store dis-satisfied and angry. My first experience a few years ago was sub-par, but the job was finally done properly, although like other posters here, it took weeks of calls back and forth, poor communication, and the unit was not ready when promised. Took a chance and tried them again since they were nearby while their store was renovated and appeared much improved on the surface. But just on the surface, it turns out. I'll never bring or refer business to them again. I brought in a pre-owned PC to pop the former user's passwords and then to upgrade if the device was worth the investment. Placed 1/2 down. Received a call within a day and got a poor initial diagnostic over the phone. The unit had more issues than it was worth, and tech essentially agreed. I requested to simply pop the password and hold off any work/upgrades until I could come in and speak with the tech/owner. Waited for call, didn't get one, then stopped by next day. The initial password pop still wasn't even done. The office manager stepped in and handled the billing/invoicing and granted a 60% refund. The 40% remainder was withheld as a single charge for a bench fee for the work that was to have been done (pop password). Was again told that they would call when it was ready. I called back right after leaving to request that a simple print-out of what the tech had already informed was wrong with the unit (which one would assume a company would do anyway). This request was affirmed and no additional fee for this was mentioned. I waited another 2 days without a call and then called and was told it was ready to be picked up- but was informed that I owed a balance of $87. I stated that the billing had been handled and I had already been refunded on the original bill and that that should have been the end of it, especially if they had already refunded me on the initial intake invoice. Sounds logical, doesn't it? I'm certainly not paying for "additional fees" that weren't clearly stated either to me or reflected on the original invoicing. When I returned to retrieve the unit, there was the above confusion again regarding the invoice and billing. They had to "look over it", (the invoice) and even called the office manager to get an explanation for the how the bill was invoiced and refunded. And there's your answer right there. All of this was due to their negligence and/or ignorance- not mine. The owner stepped in to take the unit to the work area to apprise that the password pop had been done, and I was assured that it had been. He then tried to gouge me for another $40 for a "diagnostic" fee which he told me I "should have" initially been charged for. I said "No, thank-you" and took the unit as it was. All I wanted was something that stated, "C Drive needs replacing, DVD writer doesn't function, card reader doesn't work, etc." How hard is that? How expensive is that to print out, and if these parameters were supposedly diagnosed anyway? The owner even kept the tech's simple two-line "diagnostic" write-up from me, as if I hadn't already been informed of the details by the tech. I was prepared to invest some amount of money in upgrading this unit if it was worth it. That's what the initial deposit and partial charge was for. When their own technician informs me that more parameters were malfunctioning than what I was prepared to invest in fixing (and that was my caveat to them when entering into the initial diagnostic), then it is the client's right to utilize that information, reverse course and not have any more work done. The office manager was kind enough to refund what she should have, any charges beyond the original intake fee for hardware not installed which I was made aware of. If this store has internal confusion over what services they do and don't charge for and how they schedule those layers of fees and how they negotiate/process refunds, and they do not post their fees and charges and services anywhere clearly and transparently, then that is their own fault. I brought the unit in on good faith, to have it assessed one step at a time, and I do not need to be treated like someone who is attempting to cheat THEM or like a moron when these in-house issues are wholly theirs. I recently discovered a 5-minute cassette tape of a deceased friend of mine and myself singing a song in a Karaoke contest over 25 years ago. I called World of CD-Rom to see if they could do a cassette-to-CD transfer for me so I could share a digital copy with a few mutual friends. They quoted me SEVENTY DOLLARS. I repeated to the guy that this is a 5-minute tape. He told me that they have a minimum one hour labor charge and it would be $70. I waited a few seconds for him to maybe make me a better offer, but there was just dead air so I told him to nevermind and hung up the phone. What bothered me the most was it seemed like he could care less if I brought him business or not. Some places that charge an outrageous fee for a service try to be apologetic about it or at least justify their pricing. Not this guy. $70. Take it or leave it. I can (and will) purchase the software to do this myself on my own computer for around $40. I wish your business continued success. I'll be sure to put an insultingly low offer on it when you have to sell due to lack of happy and satisfied customers. read more

This spring I took my desktop computer there to figure out why it would shut down on me randomly. Gave them the 7 days they asked for to diagnose it, started calling on the 8th or 9th day to find out what the problem was - they said they hadn't gotten to it yet. Called on day 14 to say I was going to pick it up, suddenly they had an answer for me: the motherboard. Spent money elsewhere to replace the motherboard, started it up, didn't fix the problem. Ended up buying new memory, fixed it. Couldn't return the motherboard. Recently took a laptop there because the screen wasn't lighting. They said it was a small convertor. Tried 2 different ones, didn't fix the problem. Took the computer apart myself, found that one of the bulbs had burned out, and the screen doesn't light if both aren't working. Can't get the money back due to it being "outside of warranty." Should have learned after the first bad experience. DON'T TAKE YOUR COMPUTER HERE. read more

DON T go there!!!!! go to The Computer Guild! They are TOO expensive. I went there because it was close by my house and I didn't know where a computer place was because I m not from Kalamazoo. Well when I went there the guy told me that it would be $39. 98 for a diagnostic but if I were to get the coupon that s on the cover of the Phone Book then the diagnostic will be free, so I did and of course they couldn't give me a range of what the price would be....oh and yea he told me it would be a 7-10 business day wait. O_o when I went to work the next day I was telling my friend about it and she said that she have never even heard of them, they sound a little shady and that the only place that she goes to is The Computer Guild. So I said okay well I m going to see if they have started my computer yet, if not then I ll take it to The Computer Guild. So I called them and asked if they have started working on my computer yet and they said no & that there is a 10 business day wait so I said that I wanted to go and pick it up when I get out of work and then the guy said, well you can but just so you know, you can t get the $39.98 back I said well, I didn't pay anything and then he said that he had to run it by somebody else, so #FastForward I m at the store ready to pick up my computer and the guy said that he wasn't going to release it until I pay $39.98 and I said but you haven t even looked at it or nothing, because had you looked at it, then I wouldn't even be down here. The guy was just like I can t give it back to you until you pay. So I just paid because I know they was going to try to charge me like $200 to fix my computer (& a desktop at that) anyways, when I can just by a new one for like $250-$300. But that s what they do they sell you used computers (that they worked on) for more than a new computer. I m just giving you a warning that this company isn't right! they OVER charge and they are really, really SLOW.
