This is my kids 1st year taking classes here and I'm very happy with the results. My kids are confident, stronger, and above all they LOVE coming to class. The training is complete, the protective gear allows them to throw punches and kicks to actual targets. The belt evaluation is rewarding and something my kids look forward to because they see the results of their hard work. my son has down syndrome I took him for a tryout and he love it, he was trying very hard and the teacher didn't seem to wanna have inclusion or any kind of accommodations for him, I will not recommend this place at all for families that have special needs kids. i'm writing this as a parent that don't one any other parent to go though this turn down for their kid read more

iI was sadden to hear what the instructor told my cousin about letting my nephew join he stated that he don't think he can accommodate him in the team. even though he tried so hard and was really paying attention to the instructor. Where is the sympathy/carénese for our kids in the spectrum who just want to be part of the community and have some fun. read more

We had my 9 year old's Birthday Party here today & I'm on such a high from their amazing service! Master Kwon is a master at more than just Martial Arts! He was great with the children & the activities he provided for this party brought a lot of happiness to our pint-size guests. His special assistants were so hospitable & more than helpful to me throughout the party. They helped me with practically everything--from serving the food, lighting the birthday candles, serving the cake, & taking things to our car. I have to say I am not used to such great service! If you're considering having a unique & fun party without all the fuss, I wholeheartedly recommend this place. I am also going to be putting both of my children into the actual Martial Arts program during the summer because I'm now fully aware & familiar with Master Kwon's teaching style & I highly approve! It's in a great location in East Long Beach & there is plenty of parking in the adequately busy strip mall. Again...it's great!!! I'm giving it a highly enthusiastic 5 stars! read more

I feel I have to say something too after reading the other reviews. It's too sad that a misinterpretation or a misunderstanding can affect someone's judgement. Master Kwon is an honest and good man who can be misjudged. Tae Kwon Do is a very strict discipline in Korea. it was adapted to be taught in the US, giving us a version that kept the essence, spirit and rules of TKD but not as strict. I got to know Master Kwon in the past years and I grew to have a lot of respect for him and what he believes in. His students are trained to be trainers and that is the reason why he asks them to help and experience the younger students not because he's lazy or full of himself. kids love him and have fun with him. They feel he loves them and cares about them. This is a man who is deeply respectful of people and never ever crosses the line with anyone .He treats his parents with simplicity and from the goodness of his heart because he considers everyone his friends, like a big family, that's the feel of his studio. This is a man who lived most his life actually living Tae Kwon Do as a discipline that taught him respect for his parents, for his masters, for his traditions and a deep respect for people. On the other hand he expects respect from everyone first as a human being and second for all the hard work and the 30 plus years of studying and working hard to be where he is now, with the power that he had acquired in his practice. Yes he gets upset at a student who doesn't follow his instructions but it's because he cares so much about instilling the sense of respect and responsibility to his students to give them a better life. Some kids listen to their trainers better that their parents and get much better results this way. I have seen so many parents ask him for help with their kids who were disrespectful to them, not listening to anyone. He got these kids to better their grades at school and turn their lives around. It's true that he has a hard time understanding english, especially if the person in front of him is talking fast. It's ok to make an effort to enunciate and speak slowly to have a better communication. Compassion understanding and patience can make a better world everywhere, especially if we take the time to see the goodness in everyone. read more

Great place to learn taekwondo the master is very professional. I recommend it to folks that really want to learn the art.

My 5 year old daughter loves this dojo, Master Kwon and all the student teachers. Master Kwon teaches respect and instills confidence in the children. There has never been one day that my daughter didn't want to go. I'm a proud momma. On the funny side, my daughter and I pillow fight all the time. Very disappointed. I paid $1,200.00 in advance for my sons year membership after completing the trial promotion. After attending two weeks of lessons my son had an accident causing him to be hospitalized for over a month, he improved and returned home but was restricted from contact sports. I contacted Mr.Kwon explaining the situation and asking for even a partial refund that we had hoped to use towards medical bills, he refused to refund any money because of our contract. I discourage anyone considering this program from paying in advance. Other sports programs such as my sons baseball and private skateboarding lessons refunding the money for sessions he could not attend and even visited him in the hospital and at our home after. It saddens me that a program that is suppose to teach such high morals would not implement them. read more

I give this place FIVE star for the excellent Master Kwons teaching ability with my 4 year old son. Very nice place to train your kid about respect and discipline. Wow, don't understand the one negative review at all. My son started TKD here even before Master Kwon and he loves it even better than he did under the previous instructor. Master Kwon does speak with an accent so it takes a little getting used to at first but it's never been a problem. As far as other students helping with classes, that is how a studio is meant to function. I took TKD as a kid and got a black belt and this is how studios functioned even then. There is a strong mentoring philosophy at work and higher ranked belts are expected to help lower belts whenever possible. Everyone works and helps each other -- this is how a studio develops a sense of family. So I think it's a misstatement to say that he's "taking advantage" of some students. I believe Master Kwon uses a good balance of discipline and fun and really teaches TKD as philosophy, as opposed to simply a sport or activity. In fact, TKD is a great motivating tool for our son because he knows if he doesn't do well in school or doesn't behave, he will get TKD time taken away. Wow!!! What a place.. I was thinking about doing something to keep up with my health. Getting older means harder to do things. I was taking a break from work and came across master Kwons studio, he was very welcoming and even asked me to come that evening to check out the class. The rest was history, I joined the class and have been enjoying everyday class I attend. Working out, the teaching of martial arts and the discipline for adults and children is amazing. Our daughter started learning Tae Kwon Do with master Kwon two years ago. What a blessing he and his staff have been to our daughter and our family. He has helped develop in her much needed confidence and discipline. She has alot of fun in class and gets a great workout. My son has been taking Tae Kwon Do with Master Kwon for more than a year, now, and he really enjoys it. He's thinking about getting into the competitions that Master Kwon has some of the kids do. He thinks the class is a lot of fun, though he sometimes complains about how hard the work with nunchuks can be. He likes that he's learning to swing them, though! Wow, I had to say something after reading both reviews. I think Master Kwon makes the classes fun for the little ones. My seven year old daughter really likes the class and looks forward to going. I signed her up for the discipline, respect and bit of exercise, too. She gets all of these. He makes it fun for the kids by joking around with them. I don't get all the belt stuff yet...I think it's good to keep the kids interested maybe and a way for the studio to keep customers. They seem to have a fun time. At this age they are so tiny that they might not get much out of it, but it's fun to see them trying and smiling and feeling good when they get something like a new move. It's not easy, but I don't think it's too hard either. I would recommend this business. I'm sorry to hear someone else had a bad time of it. I do see students help out, but they seem to be happy to do it. It's not like someone is forcing them, at least it doesn't seem that way. I don't know much about martial arts, but if you are looking for an activity for a little person, this seems to be a great place to try out. read more
