After researching several places, I found this one, and I can honestly say I highly recommend it. My background is mainly in fitness classes at the gym and dance classes--I have zero martial arts experience. I initially signed up for a trial, but then I saw they offered a six-week challenge with three classes a week and monitored nutrition. I thought, "Why not?" and decided to sign up for the full six-week challenge to get the complete experience. I've been blown away by how much my life has changed. Not only did I lose about 10 pounds in just three weeks, but it has also helped with my mental health and allowed me to learn so much about myself. The instructors are great at guiding you--they correct your form in a way that helps you learn how to throw punches and do combos correctly, so you can defend yourself properly if you're ever in a dangerous situation. The other students in the class are incredibly supportive, no matter their level. There's a strong sense of community, which has made learning the drills and combos much easier. Alan and Candace are awesome teachers and do a fantastic job instructing. I completely recommend attending this Krav Maga school if you want to learn self-defense, be in a comfortable, family-friendly environment, develop new skills, get in shape, and find a sense of community. At least take the free trial class to see if it's a good fit for you! But if you want to lose weight, I highly recommend the six-week challenge. Invest in yourself!!

He has challenges with focus and self-control at times which is precisely why we wanted to enroll him in the Krav Classes. He started in the Lil Dragons program, and after about 4 months he was promoted to the Juniors program because he was doing so well. HERE is where it gets sad...he was told we would "trial" the Juniors class to see how he would do. After 6 weeks, he having difficulty with focus and self-control in the larger setting, but was making improvements over the last few sessions based on staff report and my observation. This past Tuesday, he wasn't paying attention and accidentally punched another kid in the face with his glove on (not hard but I'm sure it still hurt...he apologized to the child and resumed the class). I recommended that we put him back in the smaller class considering that my son was thriving in Lil Dragons, and he was consistently practicing safe partner work in Lil Dragons so there is no reason he would not thrive there again. Trying out lil Dragons to see how he does again posed no risk to anyone's safety. He just has ongoing challenges with focus and self-control which impacted his performance overall in the larger class. My son in a smaller class size would have more adult support and less distractions which would ultimately help him focus. This issue with the partner work the other day was not aggression, it was a lack of focus that resulted in a punch to someone's face (focus is precisely what a smaller class would support and DID support as of 6 weeks ago). 360 Krav's response was that he wouldn't be appropriate for the Lil Dragons class either (even though he was doing so well there 6 weeks ago that he was promoted!)...effectively expelling him from the program altogether. How 360 Krav has handled this is totally unacceptable. You promoted him to "try" out a new class...it was not a good fit, and now you are not letting him go back to the class that he was successful in. This is a disgraceful way to teach...you are literally punishing a child for being brave enough to try something new and then failing at it.

My family (family of 4) had a blast here! We stayed there for about 6 hours. We did the obstacle…read morecourse twice and rented 2 kayaks while we were there. Bought 3 food items and a gatorade. But we spent alittle over $300 there on everything! There is a $35 or $45 entrance fee depending on when you come. It's just to come inside the lagoon. If you want the obstacle course it's an additional $10 per person for 55 mins (super short). If you want to kayak, use the aqua bike or use the paddleboard it's an additional $10 per equipment/item. There is a kiddie area for small and young children. They DO NOT allow outside food or drinks except water! There is a small shop that sells misc. items, snacks & drinks (overpriced). They also had a foodtruck inside that was expensive and the meals didn't come with drinks. They do have plenty of staff and lifeguards there. The entrance fee should of been $15-20. The obstacle course atleast 90-120 mins instead of the 55 mins. Wish the foodtruck came with drinks and was a bigger portion.

A few weeks after our session, we called the place to follow up on our pieces and the woman on the phone sounded rude about us asking about it. We went to pick up our pieces recently and the woman at the front desk definitely sounded like the one we talked to on the phone, same voice and same unwelcoming attitude. As if our presence ruined her day or us picking up our pieces was such a drastic request for her to do.

Your $180 monthly membership does not include firing you glazed piece (that cast extra) and you will need to give a 30 day notice ( even though you will not be using the membership at all like in my case where I am unable to). I broke my finger 2 days after I started, so I could not use this membership for weeks in the beginning but did not complain. This was my problem. But... all together I have used the facility one time and then had personal issues that prevents me from using it now. I did not see the 30 day notice and am paying because I did sign it. It seems much like grifting. There is no downside for the studio (not using equipment so no wear and tear) except the loss of my monthly payment. Perhaps this sounds like sour grapes but I truly do not understand this extra month of payment besides they must think they need my money worse than I do.

I did not have a pleasant experience here at all and quit because "master" kwon took advantage of me and gained thousands of dollars of free work from me then added others to my PRIVATE lesson. What could I say? I showed up to my private lessons and there were other students! I tried to be generous and did not complain even though I was only getting about 15 minutes of instruction during my 1 hour lessons while he worked with others. I DID NOT QUIT TO WORK ON MY WEB BUSINESS! ALSO, i DID NOT MAKE A WEB "PAGE" FOR HIM, I MADE A 32 PAGE WEBSITE AN DESIGNED ALL NEW SCHOOL DOCUMENTS FOR HIM, POSTERS, FLYERS, CALENDARS ETC. I donated another $5000 in cash to the business and worked countless hours for him for nothing. He even called me at 7 am to come and set up his home internet and often demanded that I stop what I was doing and drive over to help him. This is just a small sampling of the events that took place. I kept telling myself that generosity was a virtue, but the more I gave the less he gave and more he DEMANDED! In one year I gave him over $12,000 in free professional work, designed the logo and silk screens, t shirts, supplies for the school, paid for the student manuals I designed, (among other things), and worked hundreds of hours at the studio for nothing. The last straw was the halloween event he asked me to put on for him, during which he interrupted the games, designed his own rules to them, only let a few children participate and had others in tears because he chose his "favorites" as "winners" even though another student had actually won. My husband had taken the day off to help and perform magic tricks. I paid for all the prizes and decorations. He then asked me to put together a birthday party, I agreed on the condition that he would not circumvent the activities mid-stream without cause and he refused. I asked for my remaining 6 months tuition returned as it was uncomfortable for me to continue and he refused. I was privy to some less than legal information and he did settle the issue for a fraction of the value. Have had several bad experiences here and have seen the owner treat students unfairly and parents badly on many occasions. I wish I'd seen some of the other reviews before shelling out so much money! Prices have doubled in the last year and the quality of the entire program is falling. He seems to take advantage of parents and students to do things around the studio and such an awful lot. I know several parents and students who have been called last minute to run errands and do shopping for him and one student was conned into thousands of dollars of free professional work and treated very badly. We got tired of him pretending not to understand us when there was a problem, but when it came time to pay money he understood perfectly. At one point we found out that he was charging us a higher fee than other students and felt it was because he knew my husband was a physician. Then he tried to tell us that everyone paid that price until another parent was willing to step up on our behalf and confront him. He lowered our fee to the regular rate but would not refund the prior 13 months overcharge. The last straw was overhearing him verbally abusing a young student after class when we came back to pick up a jacket that was left behind. He is not what he appears to be and it seems we are not the first to notice. read more

Surprisingly, the fees and organizational structure of this school haven't changed in the more than ten years since I first inquired about it. I have prior Karate experience and can distinguish between top-notch and questionable schools based on their lineage and training protocol, and Lakewood Budo Kai is unquestionably a top-notch school. This is not a belt factory, and they are genuinely interested in teaching the arts in their purest form, rather than for financial gain. Russell sensei is the current head instructor, and when I spoke with him recently, he was very nice and knowledgeable about the classes. I've spoken with other Karate schools that charge three times as much for half as many lessons and hours, which made me reconsider attending and lead me to consider other options. Lakewood Budo Kai is a rare find if you live near Long Beach and are looking for reputable martial arts instruction. I strongly advise you to contact them.

After entering the establishment, I was warmly greeted by the owner/operator/lead instructor, Mr. Dean WELLEN who is a well accomplished black belt currently under Ryron & Rener GRACIE of GRACIE UNIVERSITY. After introductions, I was given a gracious tour of the facilities where I immediately noticed how clean everything was, including the commode and changing area. While upon the mats, I was given fantastic, informative, as well as entertaining instruction by Mr. WELLEN who not only makes you feel at home and at ease, but he allows you to work thru problems and progress, while also making it a challenge to further your skills sets. In addition, the student base is extremely friendly and accommodating which goes to show how well the culture at the CTC has been fostered under the leadership and tutelage of Mr. WELLEN. In closing, if you're looking for high level instruction in a fun and friendly environment, with an emphasis on self defense and sport Jiu Jitsu, this is your spot. The gym has a small parking lot, but I have never had an issue finding a place to park. The gym is clean and straightforward and the staff is all very kind. I really appreciate how the staff manages to instruct children with an approach that allows them to learn the technical skills and still have fun. I won't mention the name of the other gym we visited, but it just seemed like a free-for-all with no direct instruction. The staff managed to successfully split their attention and instruction to all the kids that are in the class, which I think is great. The vibes of the gym are also much more welcoming than the other places that we had visited and their hours work very well for parents and children. Five stars all around, we're very happy here!

Grandmaster Carlos has been teaching in Bellflower since 2001, I have seen generations of Families come through here, peers I have trained with as a child whom now have brought their own children to study under Grandmaster Carlos and his Son, Master Carlos Junior. We love participating in the current events, such as Belt Promotion Tests, Competition Tournaments, and Friendly Rumbles with other participating Tae Kwon Do schools. We cannot wait to see what the future holds for these great hardworking students! Aside from training the kids in martial arts, he truly takes care and loves each student individually, and teaches them about respect, resilience, and kindness. On many occasions, I've seen him correct kids for being abrasive, rude, and disrespectful toward others.
