    After the race

We came for the Nascar race and while we had fun, there were some things that absolutely sucked and needs improvement. First, there really should be a no tobacco (vapes/cigarettes/weed) rule for in the stands. Every time the wind changed directions, I was choking on smoke. Even people directly beside us were smoking and simply ignored those of us asking them to smoke elsewhere. Bathrooms were clean for about an hour. I get there are a ton of people, but there can be more workers cleaning more frequently. The stands themselves were fine. Generic bleacher style seats. It was hot and the sun will roast you, so bring plenty of sunscreen. The biggest issue of all was the lack of seating under the bleachers. The storm delay had everyone getting up, but even during the course of the day there are very few picnic tables spread about and not enough room for those that wanted to sit and eat in the shade. There could have easily been more tables brought in. Parking went smooth. Of course, we came early and left late. So we didn't have an issue in that department. Outside of that, it's a good experience if you've never been to a racetrack before.

Christmas Lights Review; Not a Race Review. WonderLight's Christmas is a dazzling spectacle that brings the holiday spirit to life. The lights play to the music. So fun. With over 1 million synchronized LED lights dancing to a festive soundtrack, the drive-through experience at World Wide Technology Raceway is your next "get in the spirit" spot for your family and friends. The convenience of enjoying the show from the comfort of your car, accompanied by the option to play the music through your own stereo, is amazing. $30 per car. The extended operating hours until 10:00 P.M. and nightly openings, including holidays, make it accessible for everyone. Make memories and start a new Christmas tradition at WonderLight's Christmas from November 17 to December 31, 2023

Forever love the races they have here! From Nascar to drifting events. They have tons of vendors of products or food booths. Pretty clean and plenty of bathrooms. Helpful staff at every corner. Even gift carts taxi's if you need a ride to your car! Don't forget the concerts that happen here! Great family spot!

Come here every year to watch a nascar race in the summer. Great family spot! So many free booths and concerts. Who wouldn't love coming here. Pretty updated.

Great venue. I am here every year for NHRA Midwest Nationals. They have local races Wednesday nights, one could bring their car and race, check their website they have other events. They have started getting NASCAR events also. It's a good time always.

This light show is WORTH THE WAIT! Make sure you use the bathroom before hand, the whole experience took almost two hours- the slow drive through the lights paired with music- I could go back and still not see all the great details! Driving on the track is also just a fun experience for those race fans in your life! Pictures and videos don't do this place justice- it's a fun holiday experience for the whole family and we will do this every year!

Hubby and I went to the Indy races this past weekend with friends. We have been before as guests of our friends, but this is the first time we needed to pick up tickets at will call. The raceway itself is nice and large. The seating is bleacher style and has a pretty good view. There are also large screens so you can see what's happening on the other side of the track no matter where you are sitting. The restrooms are always clean and there are plenty of them - they also have port a pottys throughout the area for more convenience. I gave less stars for a few reasons: first I couldn't find will call to get our tickets and it was difficult finding anyone who could point me in the right direction; the parking is crazy - you pay $20 to park in a field and it's very far away, the lines get very long and the traffic directors are not friendly or helpful (we were trying to ask about will call and they just kept yelling to move in the direction of the long traffic line); the food options are pricey and limited - I love good carnival food, but at $11 for a cheese fry, that will break the bank and I didn't see options outside of the carnival food trailers. (I did see a chick-fil-a served here sign, but didn't find the chick-fil-a)

I attended the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 IndyCar race this year. A friend attended the 2017 event and complained of major issues with traffic, etc. Luckily, most of those problems seemed to be fixed in 2018, including a new, paved three-lane road to enter and exit the facility. We had no trouble getting in and out of the parking lots. The crew worked hard to dry the gravel after a rainstorm the day before. We didn't have to walk far from our car to the grandstands. We sat high in turn 1 to see the action. I recommend sitting up high because you can see the entire track, as it's not even 2 miles long. That being said, you'll have to hike up and down those stairs each time you need to use the restroom or get food/beverage. Speaking of food/beverage, I hoped for better options - but what do you expect at a sporting venue? It's going to be overpriced, fried/unhealthy options. Only other complaint is the restrooms could have used some upkeep on race day - trash cans were overflowing. Other than that, Gateway is a great sports venue and I plan to return for IndyCar races in the future.

Just left the most recent race at the track. I think the place has a new name however The staff has no idea where to send you when you're asking for will call. First across the street into a little trailer and then to another trailer and nobody knows anything. Once we got into the track people were not sitting in their assigned seats we had to ask to have people moved. Then the bathroom was filthy. Only reason I got two stars what is the race was fun.

Camping with "Roadkill" fans at the track

My husband and I came to Gateway Motorsports Park for a non-NHRA event. The TV show "Roadkill" was having their "Zip-Tie Drags" event there Friday-Saturday. We got to camp out on the grass behind the raceway Friday night, and enjoy the drag races and festivities Friday night, and all day on Saturday. The facility was clean. The food was OK. But we had a great time. I just wish it wasn't 93 and humid on the 2 days we were there! There's not much shade in the park...unless you stand under the bleachers for a bit. We'd been to the park a couple of months prior to this event, for a separate event put on by Hot Rod Magazine, called the "Hot Rod Power Tour." You could enter to have your hot rod or muscle car in the Power Tour, or you could be a spectator. Either way, you get to park your car inside the drag strip for a car show. People come from all over to show off the hard work they did on their vintage vehicles, and then many follow the tour from town to town through a few different states. It's usually a week long event, but we only came for the one day. I never imagined being in this area of IL twice times within the same year, but we were, and had a great time. P.S. - If you're staying in the area, there's a delicious pizza place in Edwardsville called Peel Wood Fired Pizza. And there's a delicious burger place called Swingers in Normal, IL. The best burgers I've ever had, seriously. They're about 20-30 mins from the motorsports park though. We couldn't find any good food in the area of Madison without going into St. Louis.

Sat in this spot in parking lot for over an hour!

BEWARE of the traffic! Had a good time at the Indy Race Event. Waited over 1.5 hours to get out of parking lot. Lot attendants were belligerent and not very helpful at managing the traffic. The traffic experience tarnished the entire experience. I doubt I will ever go back.

Great race track for Indy Car, but traffic getting out took forever. Folks didn't know how to handle a crowd.

Organization was abysmal and laughable! No security, vendors were entirely unprepared and ran out of some food and bottled water.

Oval dirt track racing excitement for a cheap price…read more Nothing like watching and all out car race from 10 to 50 feet away. The pros go fast and the amateurs crash a lot at I-55 raceway. There is different divisions from watching little cavilers and neons with just rollcages added bang around the racetrack to full modifies that pitch sideways and throw dirt on the spectators sitting on the turns. As the cars and drivers get better I can start enjoying the strategy of how people take the turns (high full throttle or low throttle out) and trying to pass on such a small race track If you decide to come, where a hat and glasses to protect yourself from the flying dust. Plus bring ear protection atleast for the kids. Start off sitting away from the turns so you do not get hit by dirt, unless you decide you want the FULL experience. There is a large reinforced chain-link fence between visitors and the racetrack, but I would not allow my kids to hang on the fence. I walk a couple feet away because metal bends as it absorbs impact. Enjoy hearing "I tell you what" and "I heard that" from your nieghbors. The food is... interesting (eat just before you go). The restrooms are terrible. The "good old boy" experience is off the charts.

What legacies do you find nestled, burrowing their way round the hot, dusty belly of a country racetrack? What hymns can be heard cycling through the drone of a thousand horses, a thousand circling eyes, a thousand milliseconds of a single heart beat? Americuh! Americuh! Americuh! In this chorus my voice rings true. When suddenly I found myself, bearing witness in jean shorts and cowboy boots, inside the pit of I-55 Raceway, shaking hands with a driver, marveling at the inner workings and goings on of a race pit, what more could I do than testify the passion play of this my fellow patriot? Four classes of cars raced that night, and four respective qualifying heats and two trips to the snack bar later, we hunkered down on the first inside turn and waited for the showcase showdown to begin. On an otherwise dull, kick the can sort of southern cicada night, one can imaging there ain't nothin more thrilling than watch twenty Late Models barrel towards the very spot you stand, with only inches and a chain link fence between you and god. After hearing a driver died recently at another dirt track, that release waiver I signed started making more sense. Then again, does Americuh exist without some mechanism of bodily danger? I shrugged that thought off just like Nick Lyons in the number 2 car did to Michael Koos in the 6, gunning off the low side to win by a heartbeat and metal, scraped up nose. Now, I'm no fan of NASCAR, and it's been told these dirt tracks are where the legends get their start. Spending time in the pits at I-55 Raceway to me is like being the first of a knowing few to follow a cool indie band, back when they were real, scraping together their own tour money, sleeping on people's couches; before they have time to impale themselves on a second album, get on an awards show and sell out. This is Americuh people! Heck, I'm still scratching those hours of freedom flyin dirt out of my hair. God and country's right. If you ain't first, you're last.
