I'd give it a ZERO if possible. My mom and I went out to shop, buy fun little antique collectibles while I visited Oregon. We popped in two other shops next to this place so we walked over only to see that is was by appointment only for "serious" buyers. We looked through the windows at what a visible. Saw a bunch of interesting little items but.... Enough to warrant a call, I wasn't sure if I even wanted to call. So we kept looking through the windows and I spot some scraggly haired lady in a big hard peeping over at us. She watched for a minute and I told my mom, oh look someone's in there. My mom looked up and the lady looked at us adjusted some items, started walking towards the door, like maybe she was going to come up and open the door. Nope, she walked up and looked at us like we were not even welcome on the side walk then turned around and walked away. Absolute nut! Her loss though, I was shopping for my home library and am wanting to fill it with antique collectibles. Don't waste your time, that lady doesn't seem to deserve any business. IMO read more

It's been over six years since I last visited Oakland, but once again this store left a lasting impression. I walked in with my boyfriend and the woman (same as last time) immediately asked what we were looking for. She then stared at me, and I swear she recognized my face from my first visit. I held my tongue as we perused the store, and while were FOLLOWED by this woman. She watched everything we did, and when I reached up to a tall shelf to get a purse that looked really nice, she gasped and wanted to do it for me. But I'm 6' tall and don't need help. I wasn't grabbing a Faberge Egg--it was obviously a new purse (complete with the brown paper still inside) and the brand was unknown to me. She tisked and fretted when I barely looked at it, and when I went to replace it she nearly died again. We left quickly, and before we were even a 1/2 foot from the door my boyfriend began ranting about her. There's really nothing worse than being followed in a store and being considered a prospective shoplifter or item-damager. Not to mention the fact that her items are run of the mill "antiques" with no significant value or originality, yet she prices them as if they are the last ones in existence. Just a fun note: Shortly after I wrote my first review in 2013, another shop owner messaged me and thanked me for my review, noting that her existence in Oakland brings down the rest of the town. I think this woman is nuts, and the two five star reviews she has received from inactive Yelpers are clearly friends of hers, or equally as nutty. If you decide to visit, do it with kids, sticky hands, a cold, a meatball sub in one hand, and a Big Gulf without a lid in the other. read more

She then explained that if we weren't looking for something specific that she couldn't help us because her store is for "serious shoppers" by appointment only. We explained what we were hoping to find and she said she had items similar but not that particular item without even offering for us to look. Family called the place the "Dusty Old Bag". This is where antiques go to get CURSED. Soon after being welcomed in the old lady starts rattling on... THEN she will turn on you! and starts rattling on some more. Evidentially she does not like customers touching anything- expensive items are understandable, BUT getting chewed out for examining a $20 item with care is crazy. I picked up some mixing bowls to so my parents... BIG MISTAKE!!! My wife, and parents were chastised and scolded for daring to handle anything and not buy it. She complained about us not being "serious customers" and how people move things around in her store. We immediately left. The store was like a bear of Salvation Army collection and the prices made it easy to just look around. Maybe the Dusty Bag has brain damage from blasting her head with hair spray. My husband and I could not even look around to see if we "needed" anything. The owner asked of we were looking for something in particular or if we were just wanting to browse. When we told her we just here to look, she rather rudely told us that she doesn't let people in to look but takes on appointments for people to come to buy what they are looking for, and proceeded to tell us how tired she was of dealing with people that come in and don't wear masks-which we were properly wearing before we entered. Then she abruptly asked if we had even read her appointment only sign. We said we didn't even see it. However, on the way out we did notice some small notes taped to the door, but again, it was small. I deal in antiques and vintage items all the time as apart of my own work, and her store was rather uneasily cluttered with breakable items that do not have much worth or use really. Perhaps it was best that we didn't walk through to begin with. Reading other reviews on yelp (even reviews from long before the Covid pandemic), I see that others had similar experiences. Perhaps she should not be in a line of work that deals with the public if she has such an unkind attitude towards customers and potential buyers. This is a fabulous store owned by a true "character". Cheryl is one-of-a-kind and gifted with an ability to organize her thousands of items in a way that avoids a haphazard or junky appearance. You'll read a lot of negative reviews about her attitude toward customers. If you visit, just understand that she's very protective of her "stuff", and yes, overly sensitive about children being in the store. But if you'll accept her for who she is, respect her idiosyncrasies and allow her to engage you in conversation, you'll find she's full of knowledge about every single item. If you like to shop in silence, this may not be the store for you! But if you enjoy lapping up new info about collectibles from a colorful, even eccentric personality unlike anyone else you'll ever meet, then put aside your conventional expectations, engage your open-minded attitude, and you'll be able to appreciate a very unique personality and her incredible vintage/antique store. read more

Don't touch my stuff!!! For the record this happened 06/2013. The previous review I wrote does not appear to be here. My wife, 25 year old daughter and a 24 year old friend were browsing at Worldly Goods. My daughter and her friend were interested in purses. It was when they were looking at the second purse the owner barked, "you going to open every purse in the building"? Then came the lecture how she is not Walmart, people break her stuff, etc. This woman has issues. She made a condescending, "thank you for coming in!" as we left. 30 minutes later I happened to be walking by Worldly Goods again. I asked the owner why she felt the need to be condescending and rude to people. She again told me she is not Walmart and she did not like people touching her stuff! She tried following me down the road lecturing me how people touch and break her stuff. I told her, "your crazy, you have a business to sell items, but don't want anyone to touch things, please leave me alone!" She kept trying to follow me down the road, I told her, "I asked you to leave me alone, now your harassing me, leave me alone!" To say this woman has hoarding issues is spot on! She treats her store like it is a museum. I truly think this woman has some mental issues (my opinion) going on! If there were negative 5 stars that's what I would give this shop. Granted my husband and I had our three grandsons with us ages 13-7, but they are well behaved and are used to going antiquing with us. We were 2 feet inside the store when the owner confronted us and asked what we were looking for. My answer ..." Nothing in particular, just looking right now" was not the correct answer! She went off about the kids touching HER things. They were standing within arms reach of me! She proceeded to tell me "Everything in this shop is my bank account!" That's when I said we are done and stepped out the door. She turned away a good customer, we love to go antiquing and generally buy! I'll be following up by contacting the chamber of commerce, this gives a nice little town a really bad feel. We left and ate lunch in another town, didn't feel like being there any longer. A repeat visit the next day was worth the choice to go back and try again. The store has such nice things with a wide variety. The owner is knowledgeable and yes, protective of the store treasures, but, why not? Because of her good eye for quality and care for the merchandise I could tell my purchases were in good condition. And it was nice. I hope she will laugh at this part of the comment: People, she's like an sweet Walla Walla onion. You gotta peel back the layers and once you do she's a hoot, a treasure, and the kindest person. Thank you sweetie, for the tour of the rest of your pieces that have stories with deep history. I am in my mid-50's and was taught manners and etiquette and oddly enough, I expect that from others in their 50's also. I sadly expect too much as the owner of this shop is just plain rude. I will NEVER return to this antique shop. That's a shame as the town of Oakland, Oregon is one of our favorite get a ways. There are several other antique shops there in town yet the one just a few doors down was almost the same. I have tried to shop at this store several times but haven't been able to make it through the door. Every time I open the door the owner rushes up to me and says"I limit the number of people in here". Once there was two customers and another time three. I'm convinced the owner doesn't want to sell her things. I have been to the other antique shops in town and every time I'm greeted with "hello" or "welcome" and I'm treated with dignity and respect. My husband, daughters and I visited wordly goods a year ago with my mom and my dad. The owner was super edgy about my children being in the store, They were 2 and 4 and my husband and i held the kids the whole time. i tried to understand her edginess because some parents are not aware of there children's behavior. but overall she was a little rude. Today visiting with my family in beautiful Oakland Oregon we decided to return to worldly goods. My husband and I are holding our children's hands as we approached the store front. we were explaining to the girls "that we don't touch anything!" My girls know better. Once we entered the building she quickly asked what we were looking for? Before I could reply, " just looking around." she noticed my girls and she ran at us. My daughter had a sucker in her mouth ( which I honestly forgot) if I would have been approached Nicely I would have quickly removed the sucker and gone about shopping. But instead I was approached aggressively as if she was going to throw my 5 year old out the door. I quickly remembered my last experience and removed my family from the store. I have never been treated so rudely. I firmly believe she is on the wrong business. And I won't be back. And as a person who grew up and has a lot of friends and family who still live in the area I will be sure to spread the good word!!!! read more

Oakland, Oregon. We love the area! We are new to Oakland, and I dont know anyone or any places in Oakland. I recently got started on collecting vintage glass by my Aunt Judy and approx. 2 months ago took my mom over to check out this AWESOME looking antique shop that is literally jampacked with stuff, that my husband and I had seen when we went to Tulley's restaurant for dinner. What a joke. First off when you walk in the door there is no hello its "what are you looking for?" So I told her, dining room chairs (this particular day) in wood. She pulls out silvertone square metal chairs with ripped, black, leather seat and backs. A wornout version of some 80's attempt at something modern for the home. When I told her I was looking for something WAY different I had to endure her speech about how they are inpired by LA, California, these are modern blah, blah, blah. I dont care where they came from, they are WAY different than what I am looking for. Then she spends 15 minutes trying to sell me a fake made of paper trunk for like $25.00 that was damaged, and she felt it was appropriate to push this on me. Again, I just said i didnt think so and moved on to something else. She then decided it was time to close up and told us it was time to go. No "thank you for coming", "have a great day",or " please come back." Nothing. In fact she told my mom and I that she did not HAVE to sell anything, this was her side gig. OK I guess she has reflected this attitude in her prices because Im telling you I am NOT an antique expert, but this lady is so overpriced she will never sell anything . Well, maybe a few things in her LIFETIME. So we left the store thinking she was rather pushy somewhat rude. But, im used to that because I have been working with the public since I was 16 yo. I'm now 44. Yesterday, 11-15-15 My mom is again visiting. We were going out and it was 4:45. I wanted to swing into the store and check out some cranberry colored hobnail glass pieces i saw in a display case. We arrived and the open sign was out but the door was locked. Last time we came here she ran over from across the street when she saw us coming. This time she was at the wine shop too busy visiting or drinking to come and tell us customers, who waited the whole 15 minutes, that she was too busy for our business. Oh, thats right! She doesnt HAVE TO SELL ANYTHING. As soon as I got into my car I hadn't even started it yet, and she and another lady were at the door unlocking it looking back at me as they went inside. NOW, if she would have waited a couple more minutes for me to leave, I never would have realized how incredibly rude she is. Bad manners on her part, but again I tried not to let it bother me and planned to return today 11-16-15 after church. Boy, was I dumb. Today, I showed up with a drink in a hard plastic covered drink cup. I walked in the door, and she rushes at me and states, "you cant have that in here." OK, fair enough I head back out the door and place my cup outside. Now, I am starting to get annoyed, but I have been waiting for a couple months to return since the first time i went there. I'm brousing, and take in mind you literally HAVE TO MOVE STUFF IN ORDER TO REALLY LOOK AT WHAT SHE HAS BECAUSE SHE HAS TABLES, SHELVES, CABINETS, YOU NAME IT FILLED WITH STUFF IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER. I WANTED TO LOOK IN A BASKET OF STUFF AND HAD TO MOVE A TABLE AND A SET OF METAL DISHES TO LOOK. i'M SURE SHE SAW ME BECAUSE I MOVED ON TO THE PURSES, AND I opened 1 or 2 purses to look and see if they were nice inside. I decided to check out this Doctors bag she had ON THE FLOOR, because I'm an RN and i thought it was unique. She comes over to me and says "I mean this in the nicest, possible way, (oh boy, here she goes...) but you cannot open that bag without possibly breaking it. I dont know if you realize it. (IM IN AN ANTIQUE STORE), but most stuff in here is very old and it can break if you touch it too much....after that point all i heard was blah, blah,blah. I said how do I know If i want to buy something when I cant look at it? She said, "I dont have to sell anything." I asked my mom if she was ready, we were there about 15 minutes this LAST time. But she had me so mad AND EMBARRASSED that I had to leave. There were other customers who heard all this too!!!! If I didn't leave I would have said something out of anger. In a nutshell; this lady is anticustomer, has NO manners to speak of, and doesnt HAVE to sell anything. Its obvious she has issues. Stay away I warn you unless you want to leave mad, offended, and SO confused because you thought you actually went into a business that sells to the public. Couldnt be farther from the truth! Actually, I know x 3 she specializes in offending the public. I do feel sorry for her in a way, but that does not excuse her behavior. Never in my life have I ever been kicked out of a store before today! Unbelievable! We had been across the street to Tollys and picked up some candy to go, which was tucked away neatly in bags. As soon as we walked in with our two well behaved children (who have been in the store before even though this makes the owner, Cheryl, extremely nervous), she told us that we needed to leave because we could have candy on our fingers and there is very valuable items and textiles for it to get on. Again, we weren't eating the candy and my children don't touch anything. I'm ashamed to have this woman representing the town of Oakland. For anyone considering a visit, please note that the rest of the shops are wonderful. We've bought from her in the past, but never again. You have lost our business, Cheryl. The first time I walked into this shop years ago immediately my thoughts were the store owner and I have exactly the same taste! It's so hard to find items like these! I purposely mainly sell on the internet because I don't like my one-of-a-kind vintage items to be touched. I can't recall the owners name but she was very lovely and extremely nice to me. This is the kind of shop you would find in San Francisco, or Portland . I bought the most EXQUISITE Cinderella vintage Prom 1950's dress from her! I always call ahead to make sure Worldly Goods is open it's rare to find this much awesome vintage in one place! I planned to spend a nice Saturday with my older children by shopping antique stores. I checked Yelp first as I often do and ran across other reviews warning me of this place. I can honestly say I was warned, but I thought "how bad could it be?". Bad. Very bad. As we entered the store, a lady yelled to us across the store and asked if we were looking for something particular. I said no. We were just looking around. The lady then gave me the "I have my eyes on you gesture" by pointing two fingers at her eyes and then pointing one at me. What did I do to deserve that? I just walked in. I figure that is her way of sorting out browsers to harass. A few minutes later, I was standing next to my son who placed two fingers on a toy sofa and said to me "nice sofa". At this point the lady chastised him for touching everything. I responded to her by pointing out he only touched one item, the sofa, and I then touched it in the same manner that he had. The lady then went into a long explanation of how hard she works on her displays and how customers move things around. At this point another shopper turns to me and says "kinda makes you not want to shop here". I agreed, but kept browsing even though my kids were terrified. I had a hard time believing what I had just experienced. At one point, my daughter was looking at clothing when the lady walked up to her and slid the clothes on the rack so as to close the open area she had made to look at the items hanging there. As we were leaving the lady yelled across the store in a condescending sarcastic tone "thank you for coming, have a nice day". The place is stuffed with all manner of interesting items. She appears to be a pathological hoarder who enjoys purchasing items for her collection more than selling items as a business. If you are looking for antiques, she has them, just don't admit you are only browsing when she asks. If you are interested in psychology, stop by and touch a few items and see how doing nothing sets her off. She is now referred to by us as the "antique nazi"! read more

Quite possibly the rudest person I have ever met! Oakland, Oregon is one of many quaint towns found in the Pacific Northwest. With its small population, downtown businesses depend on tourist and locals to support their existence. With a full service Ice Cream Soda Fountain in town, Oakland has a definite draw to many, but "Worldly Goods" Antiques should not be one of them. I have had the privilege of visiting most towns in both Oregon and Washington because of business travel. While I feel there are occasions business owners have concerns with lingering patrons, feel that out right rudeness should be advertised for what it is. It was a perfect Saturday to head out to an Oakland, OR Coffee Shop family favorite, The Hollow. While in Oakland we decided to visit a couple local antiques stores as my wife was seeking specific items. One store visited for the first and last time was "Worldly Goods". Upon entering we were greeted and asked if we were looking for anything specific by the owner, my wife indicated she was and the owner looked around and found one item. Our patronage party consisted of me, my wife, my 24 year old daughter and a family friend in her twenties. In the brief time we were there the ladies in the party looked at a few purses. My daughter and friend were specifically looking for older purses to be used daily. Like any purchaser they carefully looked at five different purses in total between both of them, opening the flap to ensure they were damage free and useable, it was on the fifth purse the owner barked out "Are you going to open all 20 purses in the store?, you opened 10 purses already, they are all fragile." My daughter indicated that they had intent on purchasing a purse and none they had looked at had been damaged or compromised. The owner stated "you can't touch every purse in here", my daughter stated "then I will just leave". At this point the owner rambled "sorry you feel that way, have a good day', in a sarcastic tone. My wife and the ladies decided to not let the incident ruin their day and ventured to another antique store. I stayed behind at the car to make a few phone calls. Shortly thereafter the owner of "Worldly Goods" was locking up her building with an "I will return at 2:45pm" sign on the door. I approached the owner and indicated her treatment of potential buyers was less than courteous, she immediately stated that "you don't know what you're talking about, I am not K-Mart!" She then kept trying to tell me how frustrated she is with all the people that come in to here retail establishment and touch her items. I suggested that perhaps if that is the way she felt, she was in the wrong business, but she kept insisting she was not K-Mart, following me down the street attempting to tell me how things were. I finally told her to stop verbally harassing me. The word "Rude" is an understatement. The term "window shopping" is in full effect at this retailer as you better touch nothing or be called a K-Mart shopper. read more

What is this woman's deal? When my wife and I approached the front door of her store a man walked out with a strange look on his face. We stepped past him and entered only to have the store owner yell at us. "Please leave the store, she told us. Someone just unlocked the front door and let you in and I only allow 4-people at a time in my store! Leave and come back in 10 minutes!" Being somewhat shocked we stepped back outside to see the man again. He said that he and his two female friends walked in to shop and the woman locked the door behind them. She wasn't going to let them leave without being the door monitor to look them over. Needless to say, my wife and I did not go back to the store. This was our 3rd and last time visiting this rummage shop, and it was strange the first two times as well. She will follow you, stare at you, and she doesn't want you to touch anything. Weird. Weird. At any rate, we ran into the three other shoppers at the other Antique stores in town and had a few good laughs at her expense, so it wasn't a total loss. read more

very rude! my sister and grandmother, who had gone up the street ahead of myself and my mother, were in the store. the sign said open. the door was locked. we were not allowed into the store until she (grudgingly) allowed it. once inside, she rushed us out after five minutes, saying she needed to close the store. this was this past year; this year (don't ask me why we tried coming back), she (rudely) kicked my mother out for having securely wrapped, bagged, and stowed left overs from the restaurant across the street. I can understand a "no eating or drinking" policy in a store, but when its wrapped and secure, and rudely requested, I fail to have empathy. the owner asks (interrogates) you if you are looking for anything in particle. if you say you are browsing , she will follow you around like you are a kleptomaniac. I normally and pretty easy-going with customer service, working in customer service in my own job, so I know anyone can just have a bad day, so just know that I made an account just to post a negative review for this store. read more
