We spent a long time looking for the right preschool for our 2.5-year-old son in Los Angeles. We visited about 10 different preschools and daycares in the neighborhood, but something was always off -- some places had really unsuitable conditions for kids (in one of them there was even a dead bird in the yard where the children were playing), and others were nice but way too expensive. WorldSpeak was recommended to us by a friend so we decided to check it out -- and we loved it! We especially appreciated that they have a Spanish-speaking group, since our son had previously attended a Spanish daycare. The teachers here are warm, caring, and very welcoming. They do lots of educational activities, play with the kids, and teach them new things every single day. The director organizes wonderful themed events and celebrations that the children really enjoy. The food is another big plus -- they serve healthy and tasty lunches and snacks, so we don't need to pack meals from home. We're so happy we found this preschool, and our son absolutely loves going here!!! read more

There are a lot of great schools on the Westside but we were looking for an environment where our child could thrive and be an extension of home, and we were so pleased where we landed. Our son was enrolled for two years taking Spanish and recently completed TK. The school balances a curriculum with free play which we really appreciated and has totally prepared him for kindergarten. Each week has a different theme and we were so impressed in what he learned. We have adored our experience at WorldSpeak -- we've been there for 7 years between two kids. The teachers are exceptional, both in terms of their language skills and their demeanor. The curriculum is incredible and both my kids learned how to read and do math well before kindergarten, thanks to WorldSpeak. In addition, they were introduced to so many cultures -- celebrating Hanukkah, Diwali, Nowruz, Chinese New Year and more! The attention to detail is also great -- healthy, well-rounded lunches, ensuring sunscreen is put on, communicating with parents via texts and pictures. We're so sad our time here has come to an end! The owner is too busy focused on expanding the business and is totally unresponsive. She promises a daily curriculum with language focused activities but after starting the school turns out they don't have actually have a curriculum to provide. They were not accommodating with potty training despite reassuring that the kids would pick it up quickly at school. I am still owed a refund from being overcharged on my deposit. read more

A letter from a grateful mom (and a linguist) Dear Parents, I want to share our family's experience with WorldSpeak School, where my child is currently enrolled. As someone who has been researching bilingualism since 2009 and now works in higher ed (UCLA), I've spent years learning about the benefits of raising multilingual children. When a colleague - who had sent all three of her kids to WorldSpeak - told me about this school, I knew right away it was the place for us. I registered my child as soon as I could, and it's been one of the best decisions we've made. WorldSpeak offers full-immersion programs in Spanish, Chinese, and Russian. Our child started at age 18 months and has been at this school 4 days a week for 2 years. She is fully bilingual in Chinese and English often translating for adults who only speak one language, at age 3.5. The director is hands on and curates the programs in both locations for the preschool program. The ratio is good and my child reports back every day about her friends, and I've always been impressed with the level of personal responsibility the teachers and administrators take. Especially not knowing my child shares with us how the teachers react when she has an issue, I'm clear there is full accountability, and integrity even when no one is looking. I spend a year at Branches and other Reggio inspired programs and World Speak, from top down, follows the same atmosphere of treating the children is full adults with full talent and ideas, no lesser than an adult. My child started in diapers and we had full partnership with the staff and transitioned to potty training with no accidents at school. We have access to the teachers through daily parent conference zooms and text access to the director and teachers at any time. The Director Angelika is highly educated in education and empowering children and getting creative about it is her self expression and tireless passion. Her school was one of the first and only to be talked about when the pandemic hit, opening in May only 2 months after the Covid-19 pandemic hit the US hard. There have been 0 cases in the teachers and students. A true testament to the quick, nimble and pro-actively creative implementation of new covid-safe protocols including - spaced out stations for kids, masks required, no parents allowed past the door and the check in staff not having additional interaction with the students after that job. I have a degree in research biology and have been opinionated about what processes and viabilities we need as a community to be Covid-safe and I'm grateful that all my questions and requests have been accepted with gratitude and an open mind. From an educational perspective, we get a daily report card and I'm glad our kids are learning numbers, math, calendars, timing, letters, reading words, holidays and inclusivity, creativity and community. My daughter now even negotiates extra time or extra whatever because she has a working knowledge of numbers. World Speak is an environment where full self expression and exploration of the new world is prioritized. The meals are healthy, my child is eating more meat at school than at home. She's reading Chinese at school. She's figuring things out, asking questions, and creatively problem solving all while approaching social interactions with kindness, communication and generosity. I'm glad to be getting the Reggio inspired teaching philosophy by a highly educated and inspired director who on a human level, is a good human and surrounds herself with a solid team of people who deeply care about education, kindness, creating humans who will be well adjusted for anything our society brings, with integrity and responsibility. read more

I really wanted this to work out. We toured the place and although we had some safety concerns in terms of their ratio, it still looked like a lovely way for our child to learn Mandarin and Spanish. The owner was very exited about enrolling our child, assured us that our start date a few months later would work out...but after they got our application money they totally ghosted us! It was impossible to track them down, and I see on Great Schools that another parent had the same issue. If they were so uncommunicative with us as a prospective family I worry about how they treat the kids we entrust them with. I wish I could get my money back. read more

We've sent both our kids here and had a good experience. I'm not sure I could say my kids are speaking fluently or anything (we don't speak at home), but it's prepared my son to be comfortable in language immersion kindergarten and my daughter feels comfortable here. read more

My 3 year old has been here since last year and we've been really happy. It's been a really warm and caring environment. We love how there are small language groups for individualized learning and crafts, and during playtime all the groups come together. The admin and teachers have been nothing short of awesome with text updates and photos everyday. I have had my son here for 2 years and in the summer program for almost 3 consecutive years. Now that there are COVID rules, they have really pivoted and provided a safe environment for my son. It was important to me as having an only child that he gets a chance to interact with other kids often. We, therefore, sent him back to school as soon as we could. Great idea! Dad gets to work, but my son is learning at a high level, interacting with peers, and is in a much better space mentally and physically. The Language program is why we looked at this school. It is top-notch. however, the size allows 1-1 instruction, and my son is flying through the work, allowing him to get ahead of his peers. The pace is set by the student. My 2 years old daughter started her day care few months ago and I cannot be happier with it. Every morning she gets extremely excited to go over there, every day they do projects and she walks out so happy and proud to show me what she has done. Also her teacher sends me photos every day of activities they have been doing and classes and meal times. My son started at WorldSpeak - Malcolm House when he was about 16 months old. Within one month of being at the school, his language skills improved ten-fold! He was even saying things in Chinese (which of course we couldn't understand). The teachers at Malcolm House are all lovely and they do a ton of activities to keep the kids busy and engaged throughout the day. I especially liked the "school" atmosphere as it has helped foster a greater attention span in my son and has caused him to become more mature in his young age. He is now a little of 2 years old and everyone is just amazed at his communication skills. For the area and the level of education provided, WorldSpeak is competitively priced. Malcolm House is not a facility with the latest and greatest, it has more of a homey feel and a smaller class size than most other centers, which I preferred. In fact, my son moved from a much larger center where he was always sick. Once he moved to Malcolm House, his illnesses calmed down and we went a few months without any illnesses. The menu at the school is relatively healthy, although the kids are served a lot of carbs, i.e. bread, crackers, etc. I would have liked to see more fresh fruit and veggies on the menu, but kids love bread and cheese so I understand. Overall, I would highly recommend WorldSpeak if you're considering an environment that places a high focus on multi-lingualism. Aside from that, it's still a great place for kids as my son still talks about his friends and teachers from WorldSpeak. We ended up leaving the school because we moved overseas, otherwise we'd still be there. If only WorldSpeak had a school in Australia! read more

I am Chinese and my son is in this school. Today I had chance find out the Chinese class here the students have very high level of Chinese. I was amazed. To compare with Chinese 5 years old kids here they can remember much more ancient Chinese poetry. And they also speak very clear Chinese with good communication. English and Chinese they can speak very well. I think the future of Chinese language is very important so I would love to write my opinions here to share with all the parents. Amazing place! My daughter loves going to school. The teachers are amazing. They deliver engaging thematic lessons.

This is a horrible school that I strongly recommend that you avoid. My son was going there when he was three and the school administration is unbelievably vindictive, self-servicing and fake. Although I paid them thousands of dollars in tuition and fees, they actually kicked my child out of the school because I was 10 minutes late one day and expressed reluctance to pay an additional late fee for pick up. In fact, they immediately dismissed my child even though they told me that my child had no problems in the school. Although they profess to do a superior job with education of little kids, they do a very mediocre in some part and a crappy job in other parts. if you criticize them, they simply point the finger back at you. If you put your child in first grade there, they will get no support, minimal art, no sports, Kindergarten and first grade are taught by the same preschool teachers, and trumped up activities that they will make you pay for such as field trips that they make the parents pay for any way. They claim to treasure their teachers even though their teachers scrub floors and wash out the toilets at the end of the day each day. Their teachers perform the janitorial services even though the administration claims that they are highly prized. The child management is mediocre. There is no parking for the school and if you are late because of problems parking on the busy streets, not only were they going to charge me a fine, but they ended up dismissing my child when I complained about it. They got very irate with me when I tried to institute any kind of regimented teaching program in any of the classes. Unless your child is Chinese and going to the school to learn Chinese or Hispanic and going to the school to practice their Spanish, I highly advise against this school. For even the cost of a single tuition, the average parent can find a home tutor to do a much better job. The management is penny pinching even though the profit margin is huge. I found the general staff to be very resistant to any kind of educational suggestions, much of which were sorely needed. My son spent almost a year and a half doing nothing but art projects in Spanish and that was deemed Spanish education. I was very disappointed in the activities of the school. read more

My two kids ages 3 and 4 have been at Worldspeak since December 2015 in the Mandarin program. My 3 year old is in the preschool section with teacher Yen and Maggie. They are both very loving and attentive with the kids, and have the kids work on a lot of arts and crafts. Also, my younger child has a number of significant food allergies and the school has always bent over backwards accommodating this and always making sure he feels included. My older child is upstairs in the TK program (he was in preschool last year). Here they have a more structured program with mandarin in the mornings and math and english after lunch. I am more than pleased with his progress as he is on track with his peers outside of mandarin immersion in terms of reading in english and in math. read more

My son has been going to WorldSpeak for about 8 months now and is in the Chinese class. He's been going since he was about 2 1/2 yrs old. I am so happy with this school. Not only is my son learning a second language, but the teachers are so kind and nurturing. Angelika, the school director, is also wonderful with the kids. The teachers send me pictures and videos of my son while he is in school so I can see first-hand how much fun he's having. Angelika just opened up a second location due to popular demand. if there is negative stars, I would go for the lowest. enrolled for the afterschool math circle. while I always had to chase after what to do with homework for the week for a month, another VERY VERY disturbing boy in the class room was remained not being dealt with. the teacher spent half of time in the class stopping him from disturbing the class and the reason why the boy is remaining that way, still interrupting everyone in the room because he is "SPECIAL". top score on IQ test and who knows what else. me with less than equal opportunity, the special boy with waivers on his action because he is so special. really? and the director used "as a parent" card on me when I asked about this unfairness. "as a parent, you should understand how special kids need extra help" and my kid didn't even get emails with homework information that everyone else got. So, I asked to refund my deposit of two month tuition so i can walk away. they refused to do so and still telling me I am tied with the contract? they keep saying "University level math" is the top merit to be there. better bet with looking somewhere else. read more
