We are so unbelievably fortunate to have found Young Minds. It was everything we could have wanted for our child. The staff are caring, focused and really work as a team. They're kind without coddling the children. They're ready for the challenges that come with 2-, 3- and 4-year-olds. From potty training to emotions and how to deal with them, the staff are prepared and have a plan, but also work as a partner with parents to make sure the messages at school and at home are the same. The curriculum is broad, interesting, and it goes well beyond just learning letters and number. Our daughter came home wanting to teach us how to do yoga. We are incredibly thankful to have found Young Minds Preschool (West LA); such a lovely community with the most dedicated directors, staff and teachers. My son first started in the three year old classroom (Orange Hummingbirds). We received detailed weekly observation reports from his assigned teacher with photos and descriptions which we really enjoyed reading. We were at a crossroads since he was eligible for LAUSD TK fall of 2024. However, we made the decision to enroll him in the four year old program (White Owls) and are so glad that we did. For a kiddo that was very resistant to change, we were not sure if he would be ready for the transition to a big elementary school. In the White Owl classroom, they have dedicated rest time (even if he doesn't nap) to recuperate so he doesn't have a complete meltdown by the end of the day. There is weekly enrichment (cooking, sports, music, art etc.) and so many campus events including water day, snow day, fall/winter/spring festivities. They also spend time on workbooks learning about math, phonics, syllables, compound words, the list goes on! For working parents, the option to have extended hours is great (morning program and afternoon program with total care hours of 7:30am-6pm available). We currently have two kids enrolled at Young Minds (one two year old in Purple Finch) and they love going to school. We also plan on enrolling the third once she is of age. Our son has been at Young Mind's for 3 years (since he was 2 and he is now in TK). When we visited, we immediately felt that this was the place for us and our family. We really like how YM is play based, and they don't subscribe to any specific philosophy. Instead, they take various elements of all the different philosophies to create a great and fun learning environment. My son is in TK and he loves going to school. All the teachers are wonderful and Ms. Nyah is incredibly responsive to any questions you may have. Our son was there during COVID, and it was still such a fun place during that difficult time. He needed a little extra help at that time, and the school, Ms. Nyah and the teachers were incredibly accommodating, making sure he had everything he needed and always making themselves available for any discussions about him. All the teachers are thoughtful and genuinely love teaching and the students. The campus has a lot of outdoor space (multiple playgrounds) and they have enrichment programs in the afternoon, which the kids love. Our 4 year old is enrolled in the TK/Kinder program and he absolutely loves it. Young Minds has a 1:5 teacher to child ratio for the TK/Kinder - never again in his schooling career will he have so much individual attention. The amount of academic and social progress he has made is unreal - most certainly surpassed all expectations. If you plan to apply to SAS elementary schools, the guidelines set by LAUSD as the bar to apply into the program was met within a few months. The teachers really pour their heart and soul into our children and into their work. Kids are such sponges at this age and the value we get from this program is incredible. We've been with YM on Westwood Blvd for almost three years and send both our children there. It's a professionally run, well staffed school with caring and effective teachers and administrators. We are consistently surprised and delighted with what our kids come back having learned both academically and socioemotionally. On the academics, we were not looking for achievement on any specific subject curriculum focus but rather just a place where they can make friends, maximize play, and satisfy curiosities, and I feel the school does that extraordinarily well, but I find that many children in our classes will likely be beyond prepared academically for traditional public and private K and Pre-K programs. Finally it's worth noting how this school handled the pandemic. They were proactive in canceling programs last Mar when fear and uncertainty were super high and implemented light Youtube and Zoom get together to try and maintain a semblance of normalcy when the world was reeling from the tumult. They carefully reopened the school following CDC guidelines and were mindful to enforce rules incurring parental inconveniences for the greater good of the community, and they were hyper communicative about any illnesses from students or staff. I recommend this school to anyone who asks about preschools, and I'm so happy to continue to send our kids there. I think our pandemic experience would have been far worse without Young Minds in our lives, and without hyperbole, I will be forever grateful for how they enabled us and our children get through the pandemic. read more

Young Minds is in a league of its own. We had our son at another school for almost 2 years, and we were happy at that other school until some changeover happened and it reflected in our sons behavior showing stress and resulted in him no longer wanting to go. We changed to Young Minds in the middle of the school year right after winter break, and the whole class/school welcomed him so readily that he immediately loved it. The director, Ms. Nyah, is an incredible example of warmth that sets the tone for everyone at the school. She knows every kid, every parent, and every sibling, and it is obvious that they all adore her. She is always energetic, bright, friendly, and so responsive to every e-mail. I have no idea how she manages to run the whole school and also take time to connect with every kid/family, but she does it genuinely and makes it look effortless. Our son is in the TK/Kinder class (11 students) and his teachers, Ms Laura and Ms Jeremie, are simply excellent. They are so creative and fun and really tune in to each kid and how to help them grow individually. Just a few of the activities my son has been excited about have included making boats with recycled materials to test in the post-rain puddles, building a fort and having a pizza party inside, gathering pots and tools in the nature yard to build paths while playing "the floor is lava," and fuse beads every Friday. He has so much fun there and still blows my mind with the academic concepts and skills he comes home with. Our TK son will graduate to another school but our 2-year-old will be starting in July and we are so happy we get to stay in the Young Minds family! We love everything about the school's philosophies and the opportunities they offer to the kids. The campus is beautiful with multiple large different outside areas (including my personal favorite - the nature yard) and lots of outside time. Every day includes a different enrichment (art, science, music, sports) and they just completed an around the world segment where they learned about a different country/culture each week by making and trying different food, jewelry, dances, etc. They completed the segment with a giant potluck for the families to come enjoy lunch with the kids. There are lots of opportunities for parents to visit and participate in special activities. They send recaps each week with photos and summaries of what the kids are doing in class and encourage very open communication. I could keep going. Young Minds is a magical place for children. Our daughter Clara attends the West LA campus. We are so happy that we found this pre-school when we moved from Paris (France) to LA last year. We have now attended all THREE campuses of this school (all post-COVID) and are really enjoying our kids' experiences there. My son started at the Venice location, before moving over to Westchester when it opened in 2020. I was asking the director if there was any way to get my Kindergartener into an afternoon session (did not exist at this time) or anything.. and she happened to mention that the Westwood campus had an opening in their one-and-only inaugural Kinder class. What a find! My daughter entered the class months late, after being in "Zoom school." Within weeks, she was part of the group of kids (wonderful, sweet, welcoming kids) and SO EXCITED to go to school every day. I'm beyond thrilled that she is in an every day environment that fosters her self-esteem and has made her excited to learn... about everything! She's reading after only 2 months in the class (she was struggling previously). I love the anecdotes she comes home with daily. She will be very prepared for first grade next year! Our son is currently enrolled in the TK / Kinder class at Young Minds, and words cannot truly express the experience we as a family have had there. It is incredible. From the caring, communicative, and responsive teachers to the incredible learning environment, our son has thrived here and is more than prepared for kindergarten. The teachers at Young Minds are truly exceptional and meet the kids where they're at in terms of learning. For example, when our son became frustrated learning phonics, they took an individualized approach, creating fun and engaging activities tailored to his learning style. They also provided helpful ideas to support his learning at home, and his progress has been phenomenal. He now loves phonics and is thriving. We also love how Young Minds teachers children problem-solving skills, kindness, courtesy, and collaborative play. Their philosophy helps the kids build strong relationships and bonds, making time on the playground really special. Our son loves being there so much that he insists on doing aftercare and staying late every day (they offer aftercare until 6:00, five days a week). In addition to the way they teach, they do everything they can to make the experience magical for the kids. During the holiday, they make it snow on campus for sledding. There's a teacher who dresses up as a gingerbread man for the kids to chase, and they constructed a huge winter cardboard train for the kids to sit in for storytime and hot cocoa in their PJs. We also adore their enrichment classes, which include yoga, art, Sportball, and ceramics. These programs have helped our son develop a well-rounded education and a love for learning and the abundance of outdoor space gives him plenty of opportunities o get his energy out. With a grassy yard for enrichment classes and events, an upper playground with slides and huge Magna-Tiles, an outdoor eating area, a nature yard for imaginative play and bike riding, and outdoor classrooms, children have ample opportunities to learn and grow in a vibrant setting. While public schools may offer TK, we highly recommend considering Young Minds Preschool. The teachers, community, and facilities are truly unmatched. The school is incredibly secure and we feel that he is safe and well cared for each and every day. We will be sad to leave next year but are grateful for the preschool director and teachers who played a crucial role in helping us navigate the application process for private schools. Our son got accepted into all four schools we applied to, and this year, every child at Young Minds was accepted into their top choice school. We looked at a number of preschools and chose YMLA for our kids. Our 4yo is currently in TK. It's wonderful: she's excited to go to school each day. They have different enrichment activities each day (science, art, cooking, young ninjas, sports, music, etc). Her classes prior to this year were entirely play-based and so much fun. I know LA is about to change to letting all 4yos do TK, but this year it was only for the oldest kids. She's younger but her older friends were doing TK, so instead of another year of entirely play-based classes, we decided to do TK too. We were surprised when she came home pretty early in the year and said "I know how to read": it turns out she had learned how to learn in basically no time. Her TK teachers, Ms. Laura and Ms. Jeremie, her previous TK teachers Ms. Lorielle and Ms. Claudia, and all of the other enrichment and afternoon program teachers like Ms. Wendy, Ms. Ali, and others have been great. We are so thrilled to have found Young Minds West Los Angeles and particularly to have our daughter in the TK/Kinder program. We moved our daughter to Young Minds for preschool in the middle of the pandemic and have kept her for her TK. From the first time I walked in the school I got a great feeling and have had that impression affirmed again and again during her time there. Young Minds really does feel like a family. Most of the teachers and staff have been there for years, my daughter seems to know every teacher on the campus and they all know her, there is minimal teacher turn over. Every day there is a new surprise decoration or plant in the garden, every holiday is made joyful and educational. The Director has a really special bond with my child and seems to have a similar relationship with all the kids because they really do prioritize individual relationships and creating a loving, special environment. To speak specifically to the TK, we have been thrilled with the educational and social emotional content so far. The teachers strike a great balance between keeping the class fun and play based while packing in a ton of education and moving them to a more structured environment. My daughter loves going to school every day- when we went on vacation, she talked about missing her class and her "prime time learning". She is constantly teaching us random facts she's learned (the life cycle of various bugs, the function of the small intestine, the traditions of different cultures) and is thrilled to be learning reading and writing. read more

I totally agree the other one star review above. Teachers in this school show parents fake smile and fake nice. but they don't really show love to the children. At the beginning, we were trying to transfer to another class in the same school and have been told there is long waiting list. When we decided to leave because we found out the teachers don't really care the children that much, and asked them to refund the deposit they said deposit can only be refunded if there is a new student coming. Our son attended Young Minds for 3 years from the ages of 2 to 5. The activities were stellar, the curriculum was amazing, and all of the staff was like an extension of our family. Miss Susan was always so pleasant and patient with not Only my children, but every child during drop off and throughout the day. We loved being part of Young Minds. The directors are responsive, well-organized and professional. They have hired nurturing teachers and created a true community for children and their families. We enjoyed reading the teachers' updates and seeing photos of our child's activities each week. The campus is spacious, colorful and inviting. My daughter couldn't get enough of the incredible outdoor playgrounds, enjoyed the structured yet creative curriculum and made close friends that followed her to T-K. She absolutely adored the annual snow day! As a parent, I appreciated that the school shares the same campus as Temple Adat Shalom, and offered Shabbat enrichment for the Jewish students at no charge. My only caveat is that the parking lot is tiny, making drop-off an occasionally stressful event. My son has been going here for since we 2.5 year and when the school just opened. He went to only Tutor Time (Big Chain of Schools), but when i compare the 2. Young Minds was great, he had a great class that stayed with his classmates the whole time. They did rotate out the teachers each year which was great. The teachers are great and creative. The campus large, they have 3 different fields for the kids to play on which is great since they rotate throughout the day. The school has great tools in the class rooms and great toys for outside. They also rotate plasma scooters and bikes and more They also have a snow day in winter where they have company drop a ton of snow on the sports field for them to play around in.
