Boysville takes a holistic approach to the care and well-being of a child, regardless of age or developmental stage. The organization is dedicated to helping as many of San Antonio's youth as they can, providing housing, clothing, food, education, finance management, and other key aspects of "growing up" to the almost 100 residents. The organization also holds an annual fundraiser (usually in August every year) to help bring in needed funding for programs for the kids. It costs about $100 per day to raise a child at Boysville. The staff takes extra care to make sure that every child gets a shot at as normal a life as possible: they take them Christmas gift shopping in December, hold Thanksgiving dinner in November, have other outings and excursions throughout the year, while providing a safe, stable, and structured environment for them to grow and learn. I've had the pleasure of knowing and working with Boysville for the past 5 years, and it never gets old. While I don't work directly with the residents I know that every little bit helps, and that's what Boysville is all about. They train service dogs for Veterans and we were trained to be puppy parents through a series of classes so we could learn how to maintain consistency in their training. We bring dogs in training into our home for short periods of time so they can adapt to various environments as part of their training. We reinforce their training and maintain consistency for them while helping them acclimate to different homes and environment. Oh my goodness, what a wonderful experience. The staff is so dedicated to the animals and the cause and so knowledgeable about training and caring for these dogs that they are preparing to become service dogs for Veterans. There is so much that goes into training these amazing animals. It has been a truly rewarding experience for us to be able to work with these amazing future service animals.

The two day event was packed with information and gave us useful tips on how to excel in the current world we live in. We got to hear from individuals from different industries and were able to ask them questions, which was great! Through the conference I was able to receive a sponsorship from BDW to learn how to trade, as well as gain mentorship from Lenny Walls himself, as well as Manny Diotte, Yvonne Aceves, and Ymelda Salas. Since then, I've had some powerful experiences and life changes, and a lot of it is through these mentors! Here's a few that stood out to me: -a lot of us went to Miami for a business conference for a November weekend and it was incredible! We did so much in the few days we were there and I felt like I really got to see another side of the people I was with! It was a bonding experience for sure! Got to eat a lot of food, hear people speak at the conference, and even were welcomed onto a yacht! Miami was beautiful and the experience from that weekend made it all so much better. -the mentees have had many opportunities to attend high end galas, holiday parties, and events. The events are so beautiful and it's been a great way to network and get a feel for what our futures may hold! -As for fitness, I've been able to attend one of Lenny Walls' Hustle Fit Camps (& I'm signed up to take another later this month). The event is free for all and inclusive. Lenny even gave us options to modify exercises based on our physical abilities. The fit camps usually run about an hour long and it's a lot of fun! I would recommend it for those looking for some family friendly fun that also keeps you moving! -More recently I've been working part time with Yvonne in her marketing business too! Work doesn't feel like work when it's with someone you like spending time with! I appreciate getting to work with someone I trust & learning from them while also being able to put my skills to use! -BDW and the mentorship I have been receiving also emphasize self-growth, and I feel like I have been able to do that with them through the mastermind meetings they host for us weekly as well as offering a safe space and advice for life events that come our way. They've made a conscious effort to push me to become my very best and I'm so grateful for them and all that they've taught me and continue to teach me!

I am a regular thrift store hound. I love shopping for boutique clothes and bargains. I understand…read morethat the people who work at these places do not get paid very much, and I don't expect a whole lot, but common courtesy would really be appreciated. I was standing in line at the Goodwill on Potranco Rd. There were three registers open. I guess it was break time for one of the ladies because when she finished waiting on a customer, she just left. I had started to move forward but realized that she was leaving and so I backed up. That was no acknowledgment saying, "so-and-so will be with you in just a moment." There was no one behind me so I backed up behind the pole that showed where you're supposed to stand. 10 minutes later I'm still in line. One of the ladies finished with her customer, I asked, "Should I come forward?" She ignored me. I started to move forward a little bit and then realized she was still cleaning her counter space. At this time there were five people in line with their families behind me. I could not back up so I stood slightly in front of the pole, but still at least 6 ft away from both of the registers. Idela, who was working the other register looks up at me and says, "You need to back up. We expect people to stand behind the pole." I turn around and look at the line behind me, and she says that they all need to back up. Well, I don't see how I'm going to make this happen so I just stand there. Nobody says we'll be with you in a minute. No smiles. No courtesy. Another employee comes back from her break, is standing behind the register and playing with a scarf twirling around and making jokes. Then she opens her register. Finally, they call me forward and the lady at the first register called somebody else forward because she is finally finished putting away hangers. Look, somebody needs to train these employees in just common courtesy with their customers. An, "I'll be with you in a moment," or a smile, "sorry we're taking so long." Just anything to indicate that they understand that we're waiting, that they have noticed us and will get to us as soon as they can. A little courtesy goes a long long way.

Shoe and purse selection was great. Almost all of the items were priced right. I found a bunch of canvas art and prints in nice frames, metal art pieces and amateur oil paintings. If you look hard and use your imagination you can decorate your whole house for a reasonable price. Checking out was an extremely pleasant experience. The clerk wrapped all breakables. She should of gotten a 10 minute break after ringing up our purchases. Because we purchased so much at once we needed a rolling cart and an attendant to escort us to our car. Great experience from start to finish.
