We'd look at each other, laughing, saying "I am sitting on art!" Though a newly minted teenager, I had the wherewithal to know not to touch anything (unless expressly permitted). This is one of the things about the Pucker Gallery that I wish were more clear. Some of the art pieces were designed to be interacted with, like a unique working elevator-type piece. Paintings? haha yes - I know to keep a respectful distance here. Some other pieces, while I cannot remember the specifics, felt they could have been either. Further, on the same note, there were a couple sliding walls with art slightly tucked away; are we welcome to pull these out, or a no-touching zone? Despite the two paragraphs I just spent exposing my past and putting the gallery on blast, I thought this Gallery was awesome! For what seems like a smaller gallery, they had more works seemingly than several contemporary art museums I'd been to. There were a handful of exhibitions and numerous works within each one. The best part: entrance to the gallery is free! Especially where tickets to the, [in my opinion small and underwhelming] ICA and Mass MoCA are $20 and $25, respectively, this is beyond amazing! Thus, Pucker Gallery is in a league of its own. It is like a free mini-museum that I would happily visit again, either alone, with a friend, family, or even a date!

When you enter the building, you'll have to take the elevator upstairs to reach the actual gallery. I was impressed by the size of the place, especially given it's on Newbury Street. I'm honestly not a huge art person, but I really enjoyed walking around the gallery. There was a wide variety of art, so there's something for everyone. I especially appreciated how there was a lot of signage with information on the art, as well as some tv screens with educational videos. I'm not sure if this is the type of place you can often rent out for events, but if so, it's really a cool spot for that purpose. I hope to come back and visit Pucker Gallery again!

My best friend, one of her roommates, and I went here for their long-pose Thursday yesterday and…read morereally, really enjoyed it. It was fairly simple to find, though we did use a GPS, and on-street parking was free. The space that I was in was typical gallery fare: white walls, gray floor, good lighting. The people were really nice and friendly, and were genuinely happy to see new faces. They welcome any media as long as you are respectful of the other people and the space, so that meant that there were people oil painting, using charcoal, and also the standard set of graphite. The fee was just $10 for the two hours and I am fairly certain that it all went to the model. They had booked a great model too. I could fill this space with stories of the models that I had in art school, but I think that Yelp wouldn't be too happy with that, let's just say they left much to be desired. This model, however, was great. I am looking forward to going back, hopefully, next week. They also have short-pose Mondays which are kind of intriguing to me. As for the rest of the space and other stuff that they do, I can't vouch for it yet; this was my first time here. I will say that I am looking forward to exploring all that they have to offer and that if this was any indication then whatever I find, I will most likely like, if not love.

I offered two paintings to sell through consignment with them. They weren't interested in selling…read morethem, but they responded with detailed information about each artwork and a rough idea of value based on recent sales by the artists. Which makes it so much easier for me to know how to move forward in trying to sell them. Let me add... NOBODY DOES THIS. For some reason other art dealers keep their info and any sense of what paintings are worth to themselves when they turn you down. Like it's some big mystery they're not allowed to speak of. So I am super grateful for Andrew's kind and generous sharing of this information and I wouldn't hesitate to go back to them when I have more art I'm looking to sell. Thank you!

I stumbled upon Sloane Merrill one spring evening taking a walk up Charles Street. On a normal…read moreday, this is a lovely spot for some window shopping, but that evening their window had a beautiful, dark piece of urban impressionism from Daniele Cestari and I could see through the window some amazing samples of the same style from Gregory Prestegord's show "Safe Haven." This gallery has a bright, cheerful, simple space of white washed brick. It has just the right feeling for a gallery: low-key and welcoming but not particularly corporate or fancy. And they have excellent taste in art! Of what I've seen over a few visits (and on their website) they tend towards art with good contemporary style that isn't over the top "modern." It's a wonderful blend of realist and contemporary impressionist. There are some galleries that you go to just for amusement sake, to see what "creative" new materials are considered artistic these days. There are some galleries you go to for the browsing, just to add some color to your day walking around. This gallery is, for me, aspirational. It has exactly the sort of work I'd like to collect some day, and that I'd be happy to devote some precious wall space to!
