After moving to Sandpoint in 2013 from a state on the coast south of here, which will remain nameless...ok, ok...Kommiefornia, Wrenco Arms was the first gun store I visited. Now keep in mind this was the OLD ownership, and as I walked through the front door the room went from loud, jovial talking, to dead silence. All eyes were on me as I moved about the store, checking it out. No one said a word to me; no greeting, no one asked if they could help me find something. NOTHING! The atmosphere seemed almost hostile, like I didn't belong in the store so I quickly left and never went back. Several months later I was looking through a real estate magazine and saw Wrenco was for sale and for a split second I thought about buying the business. Again, for a split second. Then, several more months later, I saw Wrenco was under new ownership. This could be a good thing, I thought, so I went in to the store to look around again. When I entered the store this young guy approached me, extended his hand and told me his name is Brandon, the new owner. He actually thanked me for coming in to the store, and asked if I need help finding anything. WOW! What a difference from my first experience! I recently purchased a new rifle I had been wanting for a very long time, a Remington 700 Sendero SF ll in 7mm Rem. Mag. and Grant handled the sales transaction and background check which, with my CCW, took maybe 10 minutes. The entire staff at Wrenco Arms are very knowledgeable and friendly. I especially like the fact that they remember my name. It may not seen like much to some people, but to me it means they appreciate my business. Does Wrenco Arms have the cheapest prices on everything they sell? Probably not. However, their prices are more than fair, and, there is much to be said for the exceptional level of customer service they offer. And personally, I find it very difficult to place a price on someone else's knowledge, experience, and expertise. I don't enjoy leaving negative reviews, but after years of consistent experiences with this shop, I feel it's warranted and maybe it will save someone else from this nonsense. The biggest issues have been consistently poor customer service, an unwelcoming atmosphere and prices that are often higher than nearby competitors. One major concern that has always bothered me is hearing employees gossip and make petty disparaging comments regarding local customers and other businesses. It's unprofessional and doesn't inspire confidence, trust or reflect good character. I've heard similar stories from others over the years. You can find anything online for less these days and half the appeal of a local gun shop is building relationships and enjoying the experience but I've never found that here. This has been consistent with the old and new ownership- I've been treated with more courtesy at Walmart. The best way I can describe this shop's vibe is this: it's basically a high school locker room- except it's full of all the people that nobody likes and who probably don't like you. Even firearm and NFA transfers (which should be straightforward) have been unpleasant enough here that I have absolutely no reason to walk in there. Over time, most of the people we know have quit doing business there for one reason or another, myself now included. There are plenty of decent firearms retailers in North Idaho staffed by people who treat you like they appreciate your business and your time. read more

What business doesn't even try to answer the phone? I called 3 times and it goes directly to a "greeting" that isn't welcoming ,friendly or Professional, flat out telling you that they don't listen to voice mails. read more

So now you're going to accuse me of "not taking the time to understand"? Who's the one jumping to conclusions now? Just what understanding was I to have when I only was given a ONE WORD RESPONSE of "sorry" when I said I was there to buy a gun? No one took the time to say why I was being turned away - then you want to find fault with me for drawing my own conclusion in the absence of any explanation as to why I was turned away.. But yeah I get it, blaming the customer for failing to guess what is going on is easier than just accepting responsibility for not giving any other explanation than just saying "sorry". At the very least, you all could have put this information on your door instead of just posting "don't knock unless you're a member or a delivery driver". That alone was/is insufficient for a customer to have any clue as to what is going on. My only fault was in taking the time to drive out of my way to do business with your store when there are numerous other shops closer to me. I could have just decided to save a little money shopping at North 40 instead of trying to support smaller shops. My bad, but as I've said, you won't need to concern yourself further since I won't be showing up again. It's still not too late to post what you told me here on your front door so your remaining customers won't be left in the dark as I was. read more

Several years has passed since the original review but I would like to update. The shotgun was never found or returned but I do give wrenco credit for settling to situation. They gave us credit for the cost of the shotgun toward a weapon of our choice. We chose a glock 23 and just paid the difference. It is still a very valued piece and my person protection weapon. At first, Wrenco Arms served simply as an FFL dealer for a firearm I had ordered online. After walking into the store for the first time I witnessed a somewhat Spartan stock of supplies and firearms but what I experienced was first-rate customer service. Grant was very knowledgeable and patient. In just a few minutes I learned enough about scopes to make a confident decision and a purchase free of buyers' remorse. The folks at Wrenco Arms are knowledgeable without the know-it-all attitude. While there are a number of gunshops in the area, I will gladly patronize Wrenco Arms with my business, going forward. read more

This place truly has a family atmosphere. The personalized attention is second to none. The range is awesome. And the rentals are great. They have a suppressed MP5 (full auto) and other amazing rentals. But the store is the best service in Norther Idaho. OLD OWNERS: One Star, would be zero if possible. Do you believe in "Second Amendment" rights...they don't. Sign on the door prohibits CCW or open carry...not even Starbucks is so bad. Salesmen are unhelpful, preoccupied with their personal buddies and clearly are not very knowledgeable. Do you value truthfulness and honesty? Brandon (the owner) is polite but his employees go out of their way to insult customers and Veterans. I've sent at least 7 weapons to Wrenco to pick up and paid the $25.00 FFL fee. Earlier this year, I went in and Mark screwed up the FFL paperwork and I left with the weapon, and Mark later discovered HIS screw-up and got rude and demanding about me bringing the weapon back because of HIS screw-up. I politely fixed the problem because I want to comply with the law, but Mark's rudeness took me aback. Today, I came in to pick up an Uzzi and couldn't find my tracking number and Mark was rude as ever and wouldn't even look for the Uzzi and laughed at my efforts to find it. I have a profound hearing loss from being around M60 tanks and Mark was rude about my hearing loss. The two younger guys in the store were far more concerned about goofing off than helping me purchase amunition. Tomorrow, I will pick up my Uzzi and will never be back. I stopped in to see if they would ship some ammo for me that I had sold online. UPS service counter was down and they suggested I try this gun shop as a backup. Never been there before so thought I would stop and ask. Went in with my boxed ammo (80 rounds of 243), properly marked as dangerous goods, and asked the guy behind the counter if they could help me since UPS was down. I said I will pay the UPS shipping costs plus any service charge to have the store ship it. The guy I was talking to seemed ok with it and then went to check with the "shipping guy". This second guy just said a flat out "no" without any explanation or conversation with me. I get it's your business and you do as you please, but that's pretty piss poor customer service on how it went down. So my first time there was my last and I will make sure to spread the word about my experience. read more

Tried giving them my business on three different occasions. Each time, the staff were unfriendly and rude with elitist, know-it-all attitudes. Another reviewer was spot-on when he mentioned that they're preoccupied with their buddies. The impression I got was, if they don't know you on a personal level, they don't want you in the store. They don't even acknowledge your presence when you step inside. To top it all off, the guns are priced at or above MSRP. On another occasion, a friend of mine took a Winchester Model 70 to Wrenco's gunsmith because he was having shifting point-of-aim issues. The gunsmith took one glance at the rifle, said "the barrel's bent", and offered to buy it for $100. My friend declined and brought it to me. I looked at the rifle and immediately saw the problem. The forend on the wood stock was slightly warped, pushing on the barrel in a few spots. This is a very basic problem that even the most novice gunsmith should spot right off. An at-home free-float job fixed it. Not only does Wrenco have terrible customer service and prices, but they're dishonest crooks! They would've turned around and sold that rifle for at least $550! As a fervent 2nd Amendment supporter, I find Wrenco's business practices not only in poor taste, but embarrassing to gun owners and honest dealers everywhere. The apparent contempt they have for anyone not in their personal little cliché will turn away many potential new gun owners. read more
